Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club is a professional football club based in Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands of England. Usually referred to by a shortened version of its name, Wolves, the club is known for its distinctive team colours and long history. The club was founded in 1877 and since 1889 has been based at Molineux Stadium. Historically, Wolves have been highly successful, being founder members of the Football League, and winning the FA Cup twice before the outbreak of World War I. Wolves really established themselves as a top side under the management of Stan Cullis after the Second World War, going on to win the League three times and the FA Cup twice between 1949 and 1960. It was at this time that the European Cup competition was initiated in the mid-1950s after English newspapers declared Wolves "Champions of the World" following victories against top European sides. Wolves have yet to match the successes of the Stan Cullis era, although they did contest the first UEFA Cup final in 1972 against Tottenham Hotspur, and won the League Cup in 1974 under Bill McGarry and in 1980 under John Barnwell. Since 1984 they have, however, spent just one season in the top division. He started well at his new club, scoring seven goals in his first eight games, and being named Championship Player of the Month for March 2008. He finished the season as winner of the Golden Boot for the Championship with 23 goals, and has begun the 2008–09 season in a similar vein, scoring nine goals in 13 league games. Michael Kightly: Kightly scored his first ever league goal to earn a 1-0 victory at QPR. His form at Grays Athletic led him to be dubbed "The Ryan Giggs of non-league football", and it was reported that Sir Alex Ferguson was interested in signing Kightly for Manchester United. After scoring two goals in five games, his loan move was made permanent when he signed a two-and-a-half year contract for a nominal fee on New Years Day 2007. He became a first-team regular in the remainder of the season, and his six goals helped the club into a play-off position. His performances made him a fans' favourite, ending up as runner-up for Wolves' Player of the Year 2006-07, losing out to goalkeeper Matt Murray. After missing out on promotion, it was reported that he was being tracked by clubs such as Aston Villa, Charlton, Spurs, Portsmouth and Everton. Kightly ended such speculation though by signing a new four-year deal with Wolves in June 2007. His first full season with the club though was severely hampered by a persistent ankle injury suffered in November 2007, from which he twice tried to comeback from into first team football, eventually undergoing surgery in February 2008. He finally returned to play in the final 4 fixtures, as the club narrowly missed out on the play-offs on goal difference. He signed a new four-year deal with the club in June 2008. ![]() Wolves Transfer News ![]() Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has spoken to Sky Sports over the future of Andrew Keogh and Jermaine Beckford. Sky Sports: So Mick, Andy has expressed his desire to leave, and your obliging to that, Have you struck a deal with any team yet? MM: I cant say as of yet, but there are a number of clubs interested in him, and we want to sell him ASAP Sky Sports: Thanks, There has been alot of speculation regarding your intrest in Leeds Striker, Jermaine Beckford, What can you reveal? MM: Obviously, Jermaine is a good player, and i think he can score goals at this level, But there has not been a transfer bid for him so he is still a Leeds United player, As i have said before, within the week a new striker will arrive at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Whether that be Jermaine or Another Player. Sky Sports: Thanks Mick MM: No Problem. Beckford Pictured Below ![]()

Aye, We got him from Plymouth Though. 1.5M is a bargain. Anyway, what do you think of Beckford? Also, i think i need a LB - Quick, and an LM - Quick and good a crossing. Then i will probably get rid of 5-6 players to free up some wages
