* Phoenix.

I did it too add a little spice to the A-League. Battle for 5th and 6th. Sorta like Battle for these places in England for the UEFA Cup (Villa; Everton; "Newcastle")

Moore: We Won't Choke

Queensland Roar skipper Craig Moore today announced that his team of "nobodies" will crumble and "choke" against famed opposition such as Fluminese and Manchester United.

"Our team has real professionals", the former Magpie said. "We have experience in players such as Charlie (Miller), Danny (Tiatto), as well as many others." He was however quick to point out that some players will be star struck. "Yeah Zullo may ask for an autograph afterwards."

The friendlies begin on the first of September.

Any Time Given

On the eve of the Roar's maiden Pre-season friendly against 2008 K-League winner Bluewings, there has been speculation that Shay Given may arrive on a short term loan for the event.

The Newcastle United keeper, who will make his 350th appearance for the Toons later this season, has commented that "it would be nice" and that "nothing at all has been decided". Roar manager failed to comment on the situation saying, "this shouldn't have even been made public." Shay has been capped 90 times for his country Ireland.

Roar Wing It in
Friendly Win

Queensland Roar: 1
vs
Suwon Samsung Bluewings: 0

Queensland Roar have won their first pre season friendly against Korean outfit Suwon Samsung Bluewings one goal to the good with only ten men at halftime.

Charlie Millers 21st minute strike proved decisive as he kept his cool to convert a beautiful Michael Zullo through ball. However in the 36th minute Andrew Packer was given a straight red card for what could only have been dissent, as he never made a tackle.

Edu came closest for an off-colour Korean outfit as the Brazilian hit the post with five minutes remaining.

However Queensland Roar managed to hold on and press for their first win in an international competiton. "This is my first game as manager, and my first win." Johnston looks on the technical side of the win.
While Bluewings, minus their rested big players, were left to rue a below-par display as they squandered their best chance to defeat their first ever Australian opponent.

Great win pal!
Shame about Packer's red card. Hate those kind of bugs.

Good luck against your next opponent!

He Ain't Reddy

First choice Queensland Roar keeper Liam Reddy has surcome to an injury sustained in their 1 - 0 defeat of Korean team Bluewings.

"It is a real bad thing for me as a player", as Reddy is set to have scans on a possible fractured finger. Craig was quick to point out that "the team will do well without him, and Griff (Griffin McMaster) is ready to step in at any time."

This current event also gives more speculation around the possible loaning of Newcastle United keeper Shay Given as Queensland Roar attempt to beat Manchester United in Japan in a weeks time without a standard goalkeeper.

Woeful Roar Endure
Late Defeat

Queensland Roar: 0
vs
Fluminese: 2

Queensland Roar stand-in goalkeeper Griffin McMaster had a dismal night, saving one in a frustrating first half for the Australian side.

Until striker Washington broke the deadlock in the 80th minute, the Roar were holding possesion and controlling the match, without converting any real oppourtinites into the net.

Washington celebrates his opener in the 80th

Substitute Everton Santos showed pace and composure to seal the Brazilians's win one minute from the end after being set up by a pass.

Both sides were looking for a second win after the Roars defeat of the Bluewings and "Flu's" 3 - 1 trouncing of Pauchua.

Manager of Roar Craig Johnston said that, "blaming the keeper won't help, and that the whole team shouldn't have let their control on the game slip from seemingly underneath them."

van Dijk seals memorable win for Roar

Queensland Roar: 2
vs
Pachuca: 1

A 77th minute van Dijk finish was enough for Queensland Roar to come from behind to defeat mexican team Club de Fútbol Pachuca.

Argentian playmaker Damián Álvarez opened the scoring for the Mexicans in the 9th minute.

However after some extreme pressure from Queensland, and twice hitting the bar with efforts from Reinaldo, Danny Tiatto struck home a great ball in the 36th minute to level the game up.

However it was in the 77th minute that the game was next disturbed, as dutch import Sergio van Dijk scored the eventual winner with a low shot under the goalkeeper captain Miguel Calero.

The game ended in controversy as what seemed to be like a hand ball, as well as a dangerous trip from Pachuca players were both waved away by refferee Mark Williams.
