Club A) Club Information Full name: Manchester United Football Club Nickname: The Red Devils Founded: 1878 Ground: Old Trafford Owner: Malcolm Glazer Co-chairmen: Joel & Avram Glazer Manager: Alex Ferguson League: Premier League B) Club History Manchester United Football Club was found as Newton Health L&YR FC in the year 1878. The team was founded to be the local team of Lancashire and Yorkshire railroad depot. The club's played in kits were green and gold on a small field on North Road for fifteen years. They then moved to Bank Street in Clayton in 1893. In 1892, the club had entered the football league. At the same time it began to destroy its connections with L&YR and dropped that part from their name to become plain old Newton Heath F.C.. Soon after the club began to edge towards bankruptcy, in 1902 just before the club would have shut down, JH Davies from the local brewery was convinced by club captain Harry Stafford to invest into the team. The club decided to change names to reflect the fresh start and the name Manchester United was chosen on April 26th, 1902 also at the same time the club colors were changed to Red and White. In the 1905-1906 season Manchester United won promotion to the first division. In 1908 after Manchester City had 18 players banned, Manchester United signed the cream of the crop. Due to bans, their impact was delayed till 1909-1910 season. In that year United won the tittle and soon after the charity shield. At the end of the next year they won their first FA Cup. The club then moved to Old Trafford and was relegated in 1922, promoted in 1925, relegated again in 1931 which was amongst United's most unstable periods. They then were promoted just before WW2 which meant that when play resumed they would be in the first division. Sir Matt Busby took over United's reigns just before professional football restarted, he came up with a then unique style of management where the manager would be in charge of picking the team and etc.. He won United the FA Cup in 1948 and then lost some vital players as they searched for higher wages. Then he built a young side soon to be known as the Busby Babes. In 1952, United won the first divison. Then for a few years as more youth adapted to senior team football, United slumped in form. They then moved up in form and made it to the ill fated Champions League final. After winning the final in Munich, Manchester United's plane crashed after 3 take-off attempts killing 7 players on the spot and one a day later. Busby barely lived through the disaster and then rebuilt his side. In 1963 and 1967 United won the league, and the busby babes were reborn until Busby resigned in 1969. That was amongst the toughest days in United history. Busby's replacement was a bust and Busby came back to save United but then left once more. A frank o'Farrell came to United and lasted about as long as Wilf and was sacked. Then, Docherty came about and won United some tittles but then, after it was found he was having an affair he was sacked. Dave Sexton came into the job but after Mid-Table results, he was dismissed. Sexton was replaced by Ron Atkinson, the flambouyant man with a passion. United was on the verge of Relegation in 1986 and Atkinson was sacked and replaced by the most honorable man in the world, Sir Alex Ferguson. Fergie as he is called, was been manager of United since that day which means that he has kept the job the longest in United's history. Fergie brought with him the honorable style of play he used at Aberdeen, but his signings were not up to standard and he was going to be sacked if a loss occured against Nottingham Forest in 1990 Carling Cup. United somehow won and thus Fergie kept hsi job and went on to win the Cup. Since then, Unite have been growing and growing and are now the biggest club in the world. Fergie is the best manager and United have won 10 tittles under him. The biggest achievement of his is the treble, when United won The Cahmpions League, Premier League, and FA Cup in the same season. That day got him knighted and he and United are now a force to be reckoned with. Now a new season is about to begin but will Fergie do well?
