great start! Don't sell any of your strikers! Alves sucked for me in 08, but that might have just been the way I play, but Tuncay is class up top. I'd recommend maybe a faster foward. Maybe bring back Yakubu?

I wont sell any of them. I like these strikers already in real life. I agree Tuncay is class. I saw him in the Euros and in a few matches last season and he was awesome. I was wondering who i should sign. Maybe another young forward. Yakubu would be cool but i'll think about it. Thanks for the comments.

MIDDLESBROUGH FC SEASON REVIEW 2007/2008
PART 1

Middlesbrough FC had a very rough season in the 2007/2008 BPL season. They played their 4000th League game versus Reading on March 1st 2008. Moreover, they progressed to the 3rd round of the Carling Cup, in which they were knocked out by eventual winners Tottenham Hotspur. However, in the FA Cup Campaign they were outclassed by Championship side Cardiff City.
Owner and Chairman Steve Gibson decided to stick with Gareth Southgate as Manager of the club. George Boateng was given back the captaincy from the previous season, until being replaced by Julio Arca at the beginning of the New Year. His poor form saw him eventually dropped in March, and Emmanuel Pogatetz was handed the captaincy in his absence. He retained it on Arca's comeback but no permanent skipper would be decided until the following season.
January saw Boro spending £12M for Brazilian striker Afonso Alves. Middlesbrough rarely managed to score more than two goals in a game, until the final game of the season where they put eight past Manchester City.

Team Kit Sponsors

During this season, Middlesbrough's kits were produced by Errea. 888.com's contract with the club expired, and after prolonged negotiations leading to a delay in the release of the new kit, Middlesbrough announced that the new sponsors would be GPS manufacturer Garmin on 20 July 2007.
On 16 July 2007, the club announced that the new home shirt would be predominatly red with white trim. The away shirt was revealed on 20 July 2007 as being predominantly white with gold trim.

Premier League Review

August 2007

A hasty start to the season in August with several injuries to some starting players. These were Woodgate, Huth, Bates and Pogatetz. They were also the 1st team centre-backs. This left Boro with a shortage of players to strengthen their defence. Middlesbrough'd first opponents were Blackburn Rovers at home. With home advantage, they opened the scoring. Stewart Downing with the goal to give Boro a well-deserved lead. However, Rovers came from behind to win 1-2.
Their next game was at the JJB stadium and they still didnt get any points as they lost 1-0. Though new signing Mido was not match fit, he replaced Yakubu for the match at Fulham. Yakubu was excluded. This time the Smoggies got their win. Mido scored his debut goal and Lee Cattermole put in the second as Boro was looking for more goals.
Woodgate, Rochemback and Young were thrust back into action for the Tyne-Tees Derby which ended in a 2-2 draw. Viduka scored on his return to the Riverside with Arca and Mido on the scoresheet for Boro.

September 2007

Middlesbrough began the month with a 2-0 win over Birmingham City. They then travelled to Upton Park to face West Ham United. Despite their good performance they were thrashed 3-0. The following week Sunderland came to the Riverside. The visitors broke the deadlock in less than 3 minutes. Their lead didnt last for long as got a goal against his former club. Midfielder Downing then fired a shot from twenty-five yards to put Boro in the lead in the second half. Sunderland themn crushed the hearts of the fans when they leveled in the closing minutes. More bad news followed as Arca, Tuncay and Mido were injured. With injuries plaguing the team, they almost saw out the month withouht a win as they lost 2-0 to Everton. Yakubu played but didnt score.

October 2007

As if the season couldn't get any worse, they lost 1-3 to Manchester City. Ben Hutchinson was the scorer for Boro.
After the International break Middlesbrough were back at home for the first time in a month. Their next opponent was Chelsea. The Smoggies were looking to beat the Blues for the third time in a row at home, but could not repeat this as they went down 0-2. This stretched their run to six games without a win.
Things didn't get any easier in their next game which was away to Manchester United. Middlesbrough again conceded a goal in the first ten minutes. However, Aliadiere soon equalized with his first Boro goal for the season and the first goal United gave up that season. A Downing error helped the Red Devils with their second. Carlos Tevez then added two more.
This 4-1 defeat meant Middlesbrough conceded 16 goals in 6 games whilst only scoring 4.

They played their 4000th League game versus Reading on March 1st 2008. Moreover, they progressed to the 3rd round of the Carling Cup, in which they were knocked out by eventual winners Tottenham Hotspur. However, in the FA Cup Campaign they were outclassed by Championship side Cardiff City. Owner and Chairman Steve Gibson decided to stick with Gareth Southgate as Manager of the club. George Boateng was given back the captaincy from the previous season, until being replaced by Julio Arca at the beginning of the New Year. His poor form saw him eventually dropped in March, and Emmanuel Pogatetz was handed the captaincy in his absence. He retained it on Arca's comeback but no permanent skipper would be decided until the following season. January saw Boro spending £12M for Brazilian striker Afonso Alves. Middlesbrough rarely managed to score more than two goals in a game, until the final game of the season where they put eight past Manchester City. Team Kit Sponsors During this season, Middlesbrough's kits were produced by Errea. 888.com's contract with the club expired, and after prolonged negotiations leading to a delay in the release of the new kit, Middlesbrough announced that the new sponsors would be GPS manufacturer Garmin on 20 July 2007. On 16 July 2007, the club announced that the new home shirt would be predominatly red with white trim. The away shirt was revealed on 20 July 2007 as being predominantly white with gold trim. Home Kit Away Kit Premier League Review August 2007 A hasty start to the season in August with several injuries to some starting players. These were Woodgate, Huth, Bates and Pogatetz. They were also the 1st team centre-backs. This left Boro with a shortage of players to strengthen their defence. Middlesbrough'd first opponents were Blackburn Rovers at home. With home advantage, they opened the scoring. Stewart Downing with the goal to give Boro a well-deserved lead. However, Rovers came from behind to win 1-2. Their next game was at the JJB stadium and they still didnt get any points as they lost 1-0. Though new signing Mido was not match fit, he replaced Yakubu for the match at Fulham. Yakubu was excluded. This time the Smoggies got their win. Mido scored his debut goal and Lee Cattermole put in the second as Boro was looking for more goals. Woodgate, Rochemback and Young were thrust back into action for the Tyne-Tees Derby which ended in a 2-2 draw. Viduka scored on his return to the Riverside with Arca and Mido on the scoresheet for Boro. September 2007 Middlesbrough began the month with a 2-0 win over Birmingham City. They then travelled to Upton Park to face West Ham United. Despite their good performance they were thrashed 3-0. The following week Sunderland came to the Riverside. The visitors broke the deadlock in less than 3 minutes. Their lead didnt last for long as got a goal against his former club. Midfielder Downing then fired a shot from twenty-five yards to put Boro in the lead in the second half. Sunderland themn crushed the hearts of the fans when they leveled in the closing minutes. More bad news followed as Arca, Tuncay and Mido were injured. With injuries plaguing the team, they almost saw out the month withouht a win as they lost 2-0 to Everton. Yakubu played but didnt score. October 2007 As if the season couldn't get any worse, they lost 1-3 to Manchester City. Ben Hutchinson was the scorer for Boro. After the International break Middlesbrough were back at home for the first time in a month. Their next opponent was Chelsea. The Smoggies were looking to beat the Blues for the third time in a row at home, but could not repeat this as they went down 0-2. This stretched their run to six games without a win. Things didn't get any easier in their next game which was away to Manchester United. Middlesbrough again conceded a goal in the first ten minutes. However, Aliadiere soon equalized with his first Boro goal for the season and the first goal United gave up that season. A Downing error helped the Red Devils with their second.
