![]() Interview with Gareth Southgate - Boro TV News ![]() We have caught up with manager Southgate to find out his intentions for the season and what he expects of his team this year. BTVN: Its great to finally talk to you before the new season begins, to find out about your team and what are your goals in the 2008/2009 Barclays Premier League Season. GS: Well am delighted to let the fans know what's up with the squad as they help to motivate everyone here involved with the club. BTVN: How well is the team's preparation going for the upcoming season? GS: Well i have seen some improvement for several players in the squad. Everyone is coping well in training and i have no injuries present in my Boro squad. Everyday they show their desire to play in the 1st team squad and i like that they are fighting to earn their spot. Their confidence is where i want it to be. I am doing my best with them to help us make a decent finish this year. BTVN: Alrighty. Will Emmanuel Pogatetz be the captain for this new season? GS: Yes he will. His motivational skills and passion for the team are some of the things holding our this side together. I am really pleased (Southgate Smiling) BTVN: Ok Sir. Are there any others contenders? GS: Ofcourse he has competition. There are a few. However, i will be watching everyone very close this season to see how they respond to each one of them. BTVN: Hmm i see. Well after the departure of the Australian Number 1 Mark Schwarzer you have been left with a some young GoalKeepers. Are you satisfed with their progress and performances infront of goal? GS: Yes i am pleased and quite impressed with their agility and their reaction. Ross Turnbull has developed much confidence over the summer break through pre-season training. His aim is to always be Number one in Goal for the club. Jason Steele and Brad Jones area also looking sharp and they both look ready to replace Turnbull anytime he slips up. BTVN: Will you be putting Jason Steele up for Sale or maybe loan him out? GS: Am not sure about loaning him out but i will never sell him. He was awesome for the England U-17 and He looks like he is almost at the same level as the other two keepers. Jason works hard every day he trains. Moreover, the GoalKeeper coach is anxious for him to get his debut for the club as he is a strong and confident player. BTVN: Ok Gareth, I hope to see him soon as well. Any transfer targets you are desperate to sign for the club? GS: I am not that desperate but there are players who i would certainly like to have here. Only a few though. I can see them definitely improving certain areas that have bothered us in the previous seasons. Hopefully we will get these players. BTVN: Will you be making any dramatic changes to the current squad? GS: Not at all. I am content with my squad. All of them have expressed their desire to stay and play football here. I have not been contacted by any club as yet. I also want to keep everyone here and to start the season with this team as we have worked very hard for this new season. BTVN: What if a big club bids for a player who is a fan favourite? Will you be selling knowing the club could gain a very good profit from his sale? GS: Well if I sort power in determining these kind of decisions I would most certainly reject the bid. I can assure you that everyone in this squad is vital in our aim to have a successful season. However, it is the Board that has the final say in these matters but am sure they trust my instincts and they will be very supportive. BTVN: How is your relationship with the Board ? GS: My relationship with them have matured over the past season. We have understood each other very well in meetings and we look for the best for the club. Their attitude towards my decisions are good and they dont complain about everything. They feel right now I am the man to push Boro forward. BTVN: All the best Gareth. How is your relationship with the players and who is the easiest to workside? GS: We are just like a family here. We look out for each other and we encourage everyone. Our relationship very close. I talk to every single player every week to find out about any problems they have in the pitch with other teammates and if they are comfortable in that playing position. No one has had no problem with me and they enjoy their work here very much. I have to say Gary O'Neill is the easiest to work with. Most times when I talk to him and explain what I want of him he does it very well. He even takes initiative at times. BTVN: Do you have any goals for this season? GS: Of course I do. I would love for us to get into the top ten and to score 20 or more goals than last season which was very disappointing. I also need the team to win more shutouts and this should make it easier for us to win matches. BTVN: Question: Do you think it is possible to get Boro back into Europe and get to the same stage or better than they achieved in 2005/06? GS: Our main goal really is to qualify for the UEFA Cup as we have been absent since that very season. That seems to be everyone's objective as i hear the discussions a lot in training and team meetings. BTVN: Do you listen to the fans when they shout and roar about tactics, players and possible transfer signings ? GS: Well I do at times(Smiling). I try to play their favourites as they seem to give them something to cheer about and make the game exciting. I rarely read or hear any tactics from them that I haven't been using. I like their view of the game and I appreciate their help. Most times I listen to them about signing players and I do my best to satisfy them. I hope can even better last season and continue my stay here as manager. BTVN: Any words to the fans? GS: Yes. To all you Boro fans I want you to come out and watch the team in your numbers this season. This is a new team with a new found confidence . We are ready for this season's challenge. BTVN: Thank you for your time sir and all the best for the upcoming season. GS: Thank you mate. We'll do our best.

http://www.skivedomain.com/archive/skysportsfootballgame/images/sky_logo.gif New Barclays Premier League Match Ball - Nike T90 Omni Ball http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll198/d1j/NikeT90OmniBall1.jpgWhite/Red/Yellow In development for over two years the Nike T90 Omni Ball sets new standards in consistency, accuracy and visibility, from a manufacturer who has been the Official Premier League Ball supplier since 2000/01 season. This will be used for the 2008/2009 season. Nike strives to improve the game for both elite athletes and everyday football players. The original Total 90 Football pioneered the concept of performance graphics. Each generation of Total 90 Balls has reset the benchmark, and the Total 90 Omni demonstrates Nike's pioneering design once again. Benefiting from the most advanced technology to date the Nike T90 Omni Ball offers a consistent response and touch. The innovative design of the panel geometry incorporates hexagons and pentagons to ensure a perfect sphere. The panels also evenly distribute pressure all around the ball to give a '360° Sweet Spot'. http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll198/d1j/PDS005009587.jpg To help players make split-second decisions Nike have introduced ball graphics that make the Total 90 Omni Ball a powerful visual signal. This is created by a red asymmetrical band encircling the ball giving a quicker read on ball speed, location, spin-rate and trajectory from all angles. While accuracy is enhanced by an exclusive aerodynamic micro-grooved PU casing, designed and developed in a wind tunnel, ensuring the Nike T90 Omni Official Premier League Ball flies faster and truer to its intended target! Geometric Precision distributes pressure evenly across panels and around the ball for a consistent, accurate and powerful strike no matter where it’lalalala. Perfect Sphericity allows the ball to fly faster, farther, and more accurately. Asymmetrical High-Contrast Graphic creates an optimal flicker as the ball rotates for a more powerful visual signal allowing the player to more easily identify and track the ball. Compressed Polyethylene Layer stores energy from impact and releases it at launch. Cross-Linked Nitrogen-Expanded Foam for exceptional shape retention and durability. Polyester Support Fabric enhances structure and stability. 6-wing carbon-latex air chamber for explosive acceleration. The T90 Omni has gone through rigorous lab and field testing. http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll198/d1j/NikeT90OmniNike.jpg http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll198/d1j/NikeT90OmniFIFApatch.jpg http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll198/d1j/NikeT90OmniEPLpatch.jpg Source: Soccerbible.com
