Soehn resigns and unknown manager steps up
The officials at DC United have announced that Tom Soehn has resigned as manager of DC United. The 42 year old stepped down after leading DC United to two consecutive Supporters' Shields but failed to win the MLS Cup.

When asked about replacing Soehn, President Kevin Payne named an unknown manager, Matt Okils, as Soehn's successor. "Though he doesn't have alot of experience, Matt has the passion for the team and for the game to take this franchise to a higher level."

Not much is known about Matt Okils, but he has been a Black-and-Red fan for as long as he can remember. "It was a great opportunity and I took it. I'm not too happy about having to manage DC United, but I'm happy about employee discounts."

If you'd call it that. It's not really started until I play the first game, but I'm kind of annoyed with the game, so i'm (hopefully) gonna play tomorrow.

I have a question for all 2 of my readers:
For match reports, do you want a play y play event thing or do you want an article like recap of the game, or both?

I think Both would good. You could do recaps but once in a while do minute by minute events.

DC United 1 Colorado Rapids 0
DC United overcame a barrage of shots and a late injury to convert a penalty kick and win their home opener 1-0.

In the first half, Colorado had the first chance when Casey had a shot on goal, but United keeper Crayton came up with a big save. DC United had their best chance in the first half when Fred played Emilio through the defense, but Coundoul was able to make the save. LaBrocca had a chance to break the deadlock with a hopeful shot, but Crayton came up with an easy save.

In the second half, Cooke had the first quality chance but was unable to flickthe ball past Crayton. Moreno almost brought the home team ahead when he wet 1-on-1 with Coundoul, but the keeper came out big and deflected the shot over the crossbar. Moreno would continue to be dangerous until Gibbs did a heavy tackle on the forward and inflicted him with an injury. The United captian would stay in and be taken down by Ihemelu inside the box. With regular penalty kick taker Moreno out, Emilio stepped up to the spot and blasted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

From Manager Okils
"It was a tough game. It was my first game in charge, so I'm still getting used to calling all the shots. I am grateful for the team to play through my inexperience, even though we unfortunately lost Jaime to an injury. Unfortunately, this is part of the sport. But on the positive side, Jaime led the team to 3 points."

Toronto FC 1 DC United 2
Toronto FC fought hard but couldn't overcome two red cards and the DC United offense as they fell 1-2 at home.

In the first half, Toronto had the opening chance on goal when Barrett tried to beat Crayton with a header, but the keeper was up to make the save. Toronto FC was left with 10 men when Velez stopped Olsen's run through the defense. Minutes later, Quaranta put the visitors ahead when he pounced on a mistake by Sutton and easily finished the ball into the net. Quaranta had a second chance minutes later but Sutton came up with a huge save. Toronto brought themselves level 30 minutes in when Ruiz ran down te wing of the defense. He crossed in front of the net and tried to chip Crayton, but the keeper made the save. McTavish tried to head the ball out, but Ruiz finished the ball into the net. To make it worse for DC United, Olsen was forced to leave the match with an injury.

In the second half, Attakora-Gyan came on for Marshall and was sent off 5 minutes after he came on due to a poor tackle on Emilio. Toronto FC's luck worsened when James brought Emilio down in the box. Doe stepped up and burried the ball into the upper left corner of the net. Nothing could be worse for the home team than losing Wynne to an injury minutes before the end of regulation play.

From Manager Okils
"Everyone was highly undisciplined. There was a surplus of yellow cards, red cards, fouls and penalties. It's good to see that we can come away with the 3 points in the end, but we didn't play as cleanly and fluently as we could. Losing Ben was highly unfortunate, but I have confidence that he will fully recover."
