Getafe are just one of those clubs that you can't help but like, an eternal underdog who now rubs shoulders with the big boys. Getafe Club de Fútbol has actually existed since 1945 when five locals from this working-class bar decided to set up team from their local bar, La Marquesina, but a year later, they changed the name to Club Getafe Deportivo.

Success, however, was short-lived and they were back playing amateur football again until 1970, when they got their first stadium, Las Margaritas, and were back in Tercera División. From 1976 to 1980, they managed to survive in Segunda, but weren't really good enough for the category and never finished higher than tenth. Up to that moment, the highpoint of Getafe's history had been a tie in the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey in 1978 when they were drawn against Barcelona. Humble Getafe held star-studded Barcelona to a 3-3 in Madrid, but unfortunately got thrashed 8-0 in the Nou Camp.

If you know Spain, then you'll understand that the Spanish have a creative approach to financial dealings, so when Getafe went bankrupt and into liquidation in 1982, there was no reason for the club to disappear. A new club once again called Getafe Club de Fútbol was created a year later by merging the Peña Madridista Getafe, the local Real Madrid supporters' club team, with another local side, Club Getafe Promesas, and it was back to amateur football once again. The club's sheer will to survive had them back in Segunda within four seasons, and in 1997 they survived another threatened disappearance - financial problems once again, it seems.

Where they managed to get the money to build their current stadium, the impressively-named Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Ramos joins Getafe C.F with top four the sole ambition,

Juande Ramos has flown into Getafe Airport - by private jet no less - after resigning from SPurs and the Spaniard now takes up one of the toughest tasks in European football: Disloging 'The Big Guns' of Spanish football.

After resigning from Spurs the Spaniard returns to his native Spain to join Getafe C.F S.A.D

Ramos was the most successful Sevilla coach ever, earning the club consecutive Uefa Cups along with the Copa del Rey over the last two seasons in charge, but it is league form that will determine whether Getafe’s gamble will be vindicated.

“If Ramos plays the same brand of football as he did in Seville, undoubtedly he will take Getafe up to the level required to earn a Champions League berth”
Getafe fan

Ramos’s Sevilla side won the hearts of neutral Spanish fans in his last season, their attacking and scintillating brand of football winning them plaudits and matches in equal measure. Injuries and fatigue put paid to their title hopes - had they won their final two matches instead of earning just one point, they would have triumphed in La Liga - but their efforts were highly commendable after extended runs in European and domestic cup competitions, both of which they eventually won.

The NEW Sponsor of of Getafe C.F S.A.D
on a 1 year deal!
Getafe C.F confirmed today, that having being sponsor-less since the end of last season, that Cyrus will be the sponsor for 1 year.
Rumors are floating around that they have given Getafe 'objectives' - One being finish in the top 3 and another being win a domestic cup.
Getafe will also recieve a 'match payout' of 460,705£
Should Getafe deciede to re-sign with Cyrus next season they will apparently recieve a 'loyalty bonus' of just under 2,000,000£

However, Cyrus will NOT be featured on the club kit or even stadium boards. It would seem they are taking a role under control of the board them selves.
JOMA and GALCO are to be the kit featured sponsors.

JOMA

JOMA & GALCO featured on the Goalkeeper and Player Home strip

Abbo returns from injury at the right time
With only a few days left to the first game of the La Liga season we caught up with the Getafe C.F ‘keeper;

(The Abbo celebration)
Having returned to the land of play after his injury, Pato also managed to stop yesterday and mark in the shoot out that did get the trophy Lapetra in Zaragoza, all this and how he is currently the Argentine goalkeeper was speaking this morning at wheel Press:

"In the second part cost me a bit by the beating, was not too hard, but it's something normal, I was somewhat vague with their feet, but generally pretty good, is the first game to game after the injury and I think it is not badly. In that agreement was not an important game, but when you do not play much for a long time, it takes a special way, significantly, also serves to correct and take shape. "

On asked about, a penalty;
"It is not the first one I've thrown in Argentina Tiré some, but it's a nice option to convert, but it's not the same in a game that official, there are specialists in this very important players for their run. What I like, yeah , Which makes me hope, yes, it's a nice option, but nothing more. "

(Smart penalty save)
On asked, How have you seen Jacobo?;
"Well, I've seen in either party who he was, I have seen the right way. It was complicated because it was replaced with an injury, come to Getafe to fill a low, then it is difficult for all of that. It is not the same play First in Second, and in this aspect has not been complicated and has done so successfully. "

(Jacobo)

Jacobo and Abbo won't have it all their own way
Rarely in any team do you have it where you have 4 very good keepers all fighting out for that Number 1 slot.
Along with Jacobo and Abbo you also have Ustari and Kendall.
Who will Ramos pick during the season....?

(Oscar Ustari) NO.3

(Kendall) NO.4

The first game a brand new season is here.

Real
Mallorca
v
Getafe

C.F

TEAM NEWS

Getafe: Juande Ramos has let very little out of the bag about his starting line up for the clash against Mallorca. With Abbo fit his has 4 great ‘keepers to choose from.
Soldado is expected to make his debut and the recently appointed skipper Diaz at centre back, it would seem Ramos is building a base from back to front. He won’t want to let his new team down.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Getafe – Roberto Soldado: Brand new signing from Real Madrid. The 23 year old forward will want to open his goal scoring account early for his new side.

Mallorca – Juan Arango: Mallorca's key midfielder, the number 18 attacking midfielder hasn’t had the greatest pre-season so now he will feel that he has a point to prove in front of the Mallorca supporters.

PREDICTION

With Juande Ramos back in Spain, Getafe C.F are hoping he carries on like he left. A Getafe side full of confidence and looking to impress the new coach, a fully fit squad and a European ambition they will look to start the season of well.
Mallorca will also be looking to start off well this year and try to get some early form and hope to get the consistency going.

Goal.com score prediction;
Getafe 1 - 0 Mallorca

With less than 24 hours before the kick off of the La Liga season, Setanta Sports will show the Real Mallorca vs Getafe C.F LIVE!!

Newly appointted Getafe manager, Juande Ramos, in his first game in charge travels to Mallorca.

For Ramos this is the first time he has been back to Spain since leaving 2-time-UEFA Cup winners Seville for Spurs, it has been a mixed reception for the spainard.
Most fans welcome the move after seeing what Ramos had done with Seville and others not so enthusiastic after what happened in London with Spurs.

Ramos' ability has already being called into question with Getafe going to Mallorca with an unorthadox 3-5-2 formation. Also the speculation over who would start in goal.

Ramos declined to comment on this but it is believed that he trusts his 3 defenders, which include his captain and vice-captain.
The believed line up is,

Uche -------------Soldado
Granero
Gavilan----------------------------Guerran
Celestini-----Contra
Belenguer-------Diaz©---------Licht
Abbodanzieri

Ramos off to winning ways
2 out of 2 for his new Getafe side.

(He certainly get the thumbs up from the fans)

Ramos first game in charge was away to Real Mallorca, a game which would be watched in anticipation with Ramos adopting the 3-5-2 formation and with the captains armband now on the arm of 'Cata' Diaz.

RCD Mallorca 1 - 3 Getafe CF

RCD Mallorca vs. Getafe CF

Date: October 9thth, 2008

Competition: Primera Division

After 45 minutes: 0 - 0

After 90 minutes: 1 - 3

Goals:
Mallorca - 90' Juandro
Getafe - 55' Guerran, 59' Soldado, 80' Uche

Line up

Getafe CF

R. Abbondanzieri · L. Licht · Belenguer · Diaz · Celestini · Contra· Gavilan · Guerran · Granero · I. Uche · Soldado

Man of the match: Getafe C.F, Granero

It took Getafe just 9 minutes to threathen with a strong header from Uche crashing against the bar from a Gavilan left winged cross.
Then it was Gavilan him self who struck the bar with a 25 yard curling effort beating the keeper just not the woodwork.

Real Mallorca never look liked causing any trouble in the first half, having no shots at all. Getafe went in at half time wondering how it was still 0-0.

As the second half kicked off, it was Mallorca who came out firing with Cleber Santana (who came on after the interval) pelthing down the middle and forcing Diaz to commit, with a super sliding challenge.

Santana then fired over.
A long goal kick from Abbo sent Uche through on goal, rather than going for glory he placed a nice pass to the feet of Guerran who finished well with a nice right footed finish on 55 minutes.
Guerran, who was often coming inside from right wing, saw his himself on the score sheet again, a parryed shot from Soldado falling perfectly into his feet, with an easy tap in Getafe went 2-0 on 59 minutes.

Mallorca has no option to go on the offensive, bringing pacy striker Keita on, who first touch let him down with Getafe collecting the loose ball and Uche hitting the post on 74 minutes.
With Keita and Santana's pace Getafe were in all sorts of trouble with Mallorca using every inch of their home pitch, making Licht and Diaz work. It wasn't till the 80th minute that Getafe finish the game off, with a horendous back pass Uche collected the ball and chipped the 'keeper well.
However, it was Mallorca who contiuned to attack and with seconds remaining scored nothing more than conselation goal. Santana running down the wing well, a one-two with Keita and crossing very nicely for Juandro to finish with a nice volley.

Getafe start the season well, a first victory for Ramos and looking forward to their home debut in a weeks time against Valladolid.

Other results this week included a 2-0 victory for Barcelona over Racing, an easy win for Real against Numancia and Osasuna holding Valencia to a 1-1 draw.

Until next time....

Ramos' 2nd win in as many games, 1st on home soil

(Ramos is pleased with his squad)

Getafe's first home game of the season saw the visiting of Valldolid, recently promoted to the top division.
Ramos put the same team out that won away comfortably at Mallorca. 'Consistancy is the key' one fan told us.

It was the visitors that started brightest with strikers Goitan and Canobbio linking well and causing trouble from the very start. Had it not been for a well-timed 'Cata' Diaz tackle Goitan would have put them 1-0 following a poor punch from Abbo.

It wasn't till the 18th minute that Getafe put together some sort of attack, an outswinging cross from the in form man Guerro which was headed over by Uche.

Then again in the 23rd minute, the gold boot wearing Gavilan chipped in a great ball, a missed timed header from the Valladolid centre back, saw Uche one-on-one with Asenjo who saved well, pushing the ball up and over the bar for a corner.

It was the golden boot of Gavilan which caused trouble, again, from the resulting corner. Soldado rose high above the rest to nod the ball past Asenjo for his 2nd goal in as many games.
He is proving a worth while member, so far....
6 minutes later saw Gavilan fire a wonder strike from 30+ yards, only to see it saved well from the talent of Sergio Asenjo. Gavilan could hardly believe it.

(Asenjo is deffinatly proving his value, with Manchester United keeping tabbs on this youngster)
was from another resulting corner, again from Gavilan, this time punched out by Asenjo, only for it to fall to another in form man, Guerro to finish well from the edge of the box.

(2in2 for Guerro)
Valldolid reacted well with Victor hitting a smart volley from the edge of the 'D' only to be blocked by Diaz.
Again Valldolid threatened with no effect, this time Goitan running straight through middle of the defenders only for a super diving Diaz tackle to block the shot parryed poorly by Abbo.

2 - 0 to Getafe, a great result in fairness due to Valladolid's attacking presense.
As the 2nd half began, Ramos decieded to remove Cosim Contra, who hadnt put a foot wrong at all, replacing him with Casquero.
A change that worked.
In a very poor second half of football, Gavilan went close on a number of occasions only to miss the target. Canobbio and Goitan of (both of Valladolid) were kept very quiet by a solid patnership of Celestini and Casquero.

(Canobbio during his Celta days)

The game finished 2-0 in favour of Getafe, a result they will deffinatly take.
Sergio Asenjo was in fine form keeping Getafe to just to the 2, where as his counterpart (Abbodanzieri) having another less than average game.
Rumours about are stating that Ustari will start the next game an away tie at Recreativo.

(Getafe after the game)

(Uche causing trouble in the first half)

(Soldado enjoy his time in Getafe so far with 2goals in 2games)

(Sergio Asenjo had a great game for Valladolid)

Until next time....

Liga BBVA Getafe C.F reports;
As most people are aware ourselves and Setanta Sports are working with Getafe C.F this season. Since confirming the deal, getting ourselves set up (taking longer than it should) Getafe C.F have played a number of games. Below are the reports from ALL of the games to date. Thank you for your time.
---- ---- ---- ----
21/9 Recreativo - Away
The only change to the starting line up was, due to poor form, Abbo had been dropped to the bench with Ustari coming in. Otherwise unchanged.

(Ustari)
It was the home side that started brightest, testing Ustari very early on with a number of long range strikes, none of which really gave Oscar a problem.
On the half hour make Recreativo took the lead with a great break away down the left, a ball played a pace right across the box before being finally knocked in at the far post by Camunas.
Ramos had his work cut-out with his team not producing alot in the first half, 13 shots and only 2 on target. But whatever was said at half-time made a huge impact. With 49' on the clock Uche rose well from a Gavilan cross to level the scores, then getting himself booked for his celebration.
It was then the turn of Recreativo to waste oppurtunities, wasting 3 one-on-ones, all 3 going wide. Getafe switched to a 442 and within moments of the change went 2-1 up through a Gavilan free kick. Having been brought down him self, dragged himself up to finish well.
All in all, it wasnt the greatest game so far this season, but another great result for Getafe and Juande Ramos, unbeaten since he took charge.

28/9 Athletico Madrid Home
Easily the toughest game Getafe faced this season.
Casquero came in for Contra with Sousa and Cotelo added to the bench.
Despite the Athletico stars, it was Getafe took the lead after a 'Jeckel and Hyde' moment from Heitinga. Moments earlier he made a very impressive tackle from Soldado then on 33' miss timed his swing which left the door wide open for Uche to score an easy side foot.

Athletico responded an pressed on right up till half time, luckily for Getafe, didnt score. Simoa was the danger man with his quick acceleration and dangerously deep crosses.
On the hour mark it was Getafe who broke well after an Athletico corner, Gavilan and his gold boots sprinted the entire length of the pitch before hammering the ball into the box which was met perfectly by Soldado with a sliding finish, giving keeper Franco no chance.

4 changes within a minute, 2 for either side. Contra and Del Moro for Uche and Celestini for Getafe and Seitides and Agureo for Athletico.
Simoa swang in a monster-like corner which was headed in by Seitiredes moments after coming on.
Athletico continued to press but Diaz and Belenguer were more than capable of keeping them out. Belenguer was given a well deserved man of the match.

5/10 Espanyol Home
Another home game for Ramos but less attractive, a 1-0 win for Getafe.
It was sloppy from start to finish.
Espanyol had 3 players booked in the first half, and the only bit of light from the game was just after the first booking. On 5 minutes Uche looked to be going nowhere before making a move to his left on the edge of the box before firing a wonder strike into the bottom corner.

Unfortunatly Uche went of injured after 7 minutes, being replaced by Juanfran (making his first start of the season).
By half time Getafe had had 11 shots and only 3 had it the target.
By full time it hadn't chaged much, a very poor second half. With the only piece of entertainment coming from the crowd, where an Espanyol fan tried to jump a barrier to get close to the dugout only to get his foot caught on one of the chaines sending his limb-less like body crashing to the floor right at the feet of Ramos.
Getafe C.F next play Almeria on 12/10, away from home.
Up until this point Getafe remain unbeaten.

Until next time....
