Background Information
··························
- Real Murcia have spent a total of 17 seasons in the top flight of Spanish football - La Liga. The team last year finished a disappointing 19th in the league, resulting in relegation back to where they have spent more of their time. La Liga BBVA, the time spent in the 2nd tier tots up to 48 seasons.

- The relegation of last year resulted in the sacking of manager, Lucas Alcaraz. This is where Javier Clemente comes in, the former Spain and Serbia manager was appointed as the new boss of Murcia early in July.
Jesús Samper, the club chairman hoped that the vastly experienced Clemente could bring some stability, and class to the struggling side.
Javier has brought in a few players since his arrival at the club, including 28 year old, Polish striker, Adrian Sikora. Sikora joined Murcia from fairly unknown Polish side, Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski - With whom he won the Polish premier league in the 2006/2007 season.

- Real Murcia have never won any major silverware, excluding the 4 times they won the Liga BBVA 'B' league. Javier Clemente promised the winning of trophies in his first press conference for the club, in which he said, "I have quite a big job ahead of me, but i believe in myself, and the team. Yes, i WILL win silverware with this club. Maybe not in the first season, possibly in the 2nd, but definately in the 3rd, this is a promise, if i fail to meet this, i will personally resign from my role as manager or Real Murcia."

Players to watch
··················

Henok Goitom - Striker - Goitom is a 24 year old Swedish striker, originally from Solna Sweeden. Before arriving at Real Murcia, he spent 2 years on loan at City rivals, Ciudad de Murcia, where he made 71 appearances and scored 24 goals. Goitom didn't play at Murcia in the 2007/2008 season, as Lucas Alcaraz put him on loan to Real Valladolid, in order to gain experience - No such luck, Henok made 0 appearances for the first team.

Daniel 'Dani' Aquino Pintos - Winger - Dani Aquino (as known locally) is a very talented young left footed player who is naturally, and primarily a left winger, but is capable of playing behind the forwards, or as a forward. Dani made his debut for Murcia at the tender age of 16, when he came on as a late substitute against tenerife, and scored a fantastic goal to clinch the love of the Murcia faithful immediately. Following this achievment, Lucas Alcaraz handed him frequent starting 11 places in the 2007/2007 season, he played permanently down the left wing, supplying excellent crosses to the forwards, and showing glimpses of things to come. Dani scored his 2nd goal for Murcia against Racing de Santander. Alcaraz told the press Aquino was a "vital" part of the team, helping Murcia to bounce up to the top flight of Spanish football.

Clemente will name his official starting 11 on Saturday 4th October 2008.

[I just want you guys to know, the reason there is no club history, or major honours, is because Murcia haven't won much ]

I was disappointed with Berba's performance until the last 15 minutes. Showed signs of quality though. Looking forward to the update!

Clemente Reveals Transfer Trio
·················································· ·

MURCIA, Spain - Real Murcia boss - Javier Clemente, today held a press conference to confirm his transfer targets for the up and coming season. He has revealed he will be sending numerous scouts out to Asia to strengthen his teams defensive capabilities, and also one to the Americas. The three players Clemente has officially entered bids for, are;

Javier Clemente has been reportedly 'watching' the City ace, Petrov, for the past couple of years, and entered a bid for him before he transfered to Manchester City, but got outbid by the English side.
This year though, Jesus Samper has provided enough money to "tempt" the Bulgarian international away from City. Wether money alone will be enough to bring Petrov to La Nueva Condomina is a different story.
Petrov has enjoyed a decent amount of love from the City fans, and if he stays in Manchester, could come across some Silverware due to the takeover.
Another thing the Bulgarian has to concider is the "promise" of silverware by the new Murcia 'gaffer'.

Clemente is also looking to take advantage of problems at probably the unluckiest team in England - Newcastle United.
The boss has entered an undisclosed bid for the Newcastle skipper, Michael Owen. The 28 year old is a proven goal scorer, and play maker, but with him getting older, has lost a couple of yards compared to what he had this time 5 years ago. At the age of 28, a move to Murcia could be his last chance to get success, surely all players want to end their careers on a high, not on a low, which he is on now at The Toon.

The third target, is promising young defender, Jonny Evans.
The 20 year old has been impressing Clemente recently, with firm appearences for Manchester United with the absence of Nemanja Vidic.
Javier has entered a bid of around £3,000,000 for the tall Irish defender.
Jonny will get regular starts for Murcia if he does decide to leave Old Trafford to come to Spain. Though currently being under the tuition of Sir Alex Ferguson, no games, means no experience, and all young players need experience.
When we spoke to Jonny, he said "Yes i have been contacted by Mr Clemente, i am seriously thinking about a move to the continent, good weather, good football... good ladies (laughs), but i have left the final decision with my agent, and whatever he thinks best, i will go with that"

I think Petrov and Owen are fairly unrealistic. Maybe if you get promoted first.

I think Petrov is unrealistic, but you never know.

Newcastle look like they're going down so far this season, and i'm taking Murcia up WORLD DOMINATION!

We'll just have to wait and see.

nice start miguel I don't think Petrov or Owen would be realisitic lol. No offense but Newcastle to Murcia would still be a step down Plus, he probably wants to end his career in England
