Wenger Pens New Deal
![]() Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has signed a new 1 year contract with the club, Sky Sports.com understands. The French manager will be at the club until next summer according to a statement on the club's official website. ''Arsenal FC can confirm that Arsène Wenger has signed a new 1 year deal'' said a spokesman for the club. ''We are delighted that Mr. Wenger has accepted our offer to stay on at the club and we will do our best to keep him here as long as possible''. Wenger has been at the club since September 1996 and has won a total of 11 trophies over the course of nearly 12 years. He has also claimed the manager of the year award 3 times. Arsenal chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, was pleased with Wenger's decision to renew his contract. ''He has a wealth of experience in football management from his time here and everyone at Arsenal are glad he has decided to stay on board''. The news comes as the Gunners prepare to win their first trophy since 2005 and thus silence their critics who have been questioning Arsenal's ability to claim silverware through their highly entertaining football. After sitting down to pen his new deal with Arsenal, Wenger admitted he was honoured to be in charge at the Emirates Stadium. ''It's a real honour for me to be the manager of such a fantastic club. I hope that I can continue to be an asset to the club and that we can silence our critics by winning a major trophy this season.'' Supporters of Arsenal around the world welcomed Wenger's decision to sign a new contract at the London based club. ''I know that our fans love to see us play high tempo and attacking football and that's what I will give them'' said Wenger. Many are expecting Wenger to uncover another hidden gem during the summer transfer window however the French boss has given no clues as to who he might be signing over the summer. ''I cannot confirm that I have a solid interest in any specific player at this stage. I am aware that Arsenal have been strongly linked with one or two players but I can tell you that we have not completed the signing of any player as yet however we are monitoring the situation of a couple of players but I cannot disclose anymore information.'' Wenger is likely to have money to spend in the transfer window but the Frenchman is usually not a big spender in the transfer season but that could all change within the next few weeks. Spirits are high around the Emirates Stadium right now but many are still doubtful that Arsenal's fast and attacking football will deliver trophies to the club and weather or not Wenger's young guns will be able to cope with the pressure. All the questions will be answered once the new season get's underway. |

Martins Close To Joining Arsenal?
![]() Newspapers are suggesting that Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium this summer. The Nigerian struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the magpies last season mainly due to injury and form. Reports suggest that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may lodge a bid for the 23 year old striker however these rumours have yet to be confirmed by Newcastle or Arsenal. Newcastle United are asking for 11 million pounds for the Nigerian striker and many believe that the Arsenal boss is unwilling to spend that amount of money on him however with the current situation at Newcastle he may be able to prise Martins away from the Tyneside club for less than their asking price. ''Martins is a quality player with great speed and ability in the air.'' said Wenger. ''He has shown what he can do on many occasions what he is capable of but £11 million is a lot for someone who only scored 10 goals last season and doesn't have a great injury record.'' The Gunners currently have 5 strikers in their first team squad but Wenger is likely to loan out one of them in order to reduce match wages and give the player more experience. Wenger gave his thoughts on his attacking options. ''We have some quality strikers in the squad but I think it may be beneficial to loan one of them out in order to let them all get more first team experience and then maybe introduce them into the Premier League next season but we'll see.'' Martins is the second player to be linked with Arsenal so far this summer and it not likely to be the last as a busy summer of transfers is about to begin. Players Linked With Arsenal So Far: Yaya Touré (Barcelona) Obafemi Martins (Newcastle) Other transfers: Deco to Chelsea Berbatov to Manchester United Keane to Liverpool Modric to Tottenham Hotspur Zaki to Wigan Athletic Crouch to Portsmouth |

Thanks mate and yeah Martins could come in handy.
Are you serious? I took advice from the manager modes for dummies in the FIFA 08 forum and looked around at other threads to get an idea. This is completely my own work. ![]() Quote:

Arsenal Release Pre Season Training Report
![]() Pre season training at Arsenal Football Club has concluded and the club have released a small article to the press with regards to the fitness and shape of their squad. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger commented on the fitness and general well being of his players. ''I am very pleased with the level of fitness that the squad has managed to achieve and I hope that this will help the squad stay injury free. I'm glad to announce that we have no injury worries as yet and I really hope that we can avoid and long term injuries such as the ones we were hit with towards the end of last season.'' Arsenal's first team coach, Boro Primorac, gave us the low-down on the state of the squad. ''Overall the current squad is in fine shape but there are one or two players that have picked up slight knocks in training but their injuries are nothing too serious and they will be back in time for the start of the season.'' Wenger was confident that his side are fitter than ever before and praised his squad for their hard work. ''The players have raised the bar at training and everyone is working harder. I firmly believe that the squad is fitter than ever before and we will be the fittest side out there on the pitch once the new season kicks off.'' It seems that the Gunners are in confident mood ahead of the coming season but the rest of the teams in the Premier League will be aiming to knock down Arsenal's title challenge as quickly as they can. Arsenal Target Duo
![]() Arsenal FC have reportedly made contact with Liverpool and Ajax over the situations of two players who are believed to be Xabi Alonso and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. A spokesperson for Arsenal said ''We have made an approach to Liverpool and Ajax regarding their players however we cannot confirm that we have made an offer for them but we have been given permission to speak to them over their futures at their respective clubs.'' Since the transfer window opened for business earlier this summer, many players have been linked with Arsenal however no deals have been completed as yet. Many believe that Arsenal have been quoted a price of £15 million for Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and there are doubts weather or not Wenger will pay that amount of money for he Ajax captain. It is also rumoured that Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium this summer but it is unlikely that Liverpool will sell to their rivals but anything could happen. Alonso has a price tag of around £6 million but Arsene Wenger may be able to secure his services for less should Liverpool become desperate to fund a move for Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, another player who's name has been linked with a possible move to Arsenal this summer. Wenger spoke to news reporters earlier today. ''We are looking at a few players to strengthen our squad but we will not be in any hurry to sign anybody. If we feel that the price for a certain player is right and he has enough quality and potential to succeed here at Arsenal then we may make an offer to the player's club.'' Players Linked With Arsenal So Far: Yaya Touré (Barcelona) Obafemi Martins (Newcastle) Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax) Xabi Alonso (Liverpool) Gareth Barry (Aston Villa) Other Transfers: Gutiérrez to Newcastle King to Hull Piqué to Barcelona Behrami to West Ham Muntari to Inter Milan |
