Board expectations ![]() Sunderland Stadium of Light ______________________________________ The Sunderland board wish to congratulate you on a successful season last term and fully hope that you continue upholding the clubs long term aspirations. They have placed the following expectations on your shoulders: - The board expect that the team should finish in a respectable position at the end of the season. - The board expect the team to reach the 5th round of the Carling Cup. - The board expect that the team reach the quarter finals of the FA Cup. - The board expect you to sign a new CB. - The board expect that the club do not go into debt at anytime during the season. A new contract depends on how you get the team to perform during the season and the board will meet after the final game to determine whether or not you have done the job expected of you. Good luck...

Sunderland pre-season freindly results
![]() Sunderland opponents AZ Alkmaar ________________________________ Well, I finally have the game, and straight away I have started up my MM and organised 3 freindlies to get my team prepped for the new season. Results were quite good overall and I am pleased with my team ahead of the first game of the season. Sunderland 5-1 Accrington First real game on FIFA 09 and I had a great result, Kenwynne Jones grabbed himself a hat-trick and Cissé and Malbranque rounded off the scoring. Alkmaar 0-0 Sunderland A dull game was only brought to life by the lively performance of El Hadji Diouf, he caused the AZ defence problems all game and came close on a couple of occasions. Solid performances from Steed Malbranque and Anton Ferdinand were pleasing but going forward I was very disappointed. Sunderland 2-1 Celtic Celtic took the lead with a deflected shot from Aiden McGeady in the first half and the Sunderland fans will have been disappointed with the teams overall performance. After the break however there was only one team that looked like winning. Djibril Cissé got himself the equaliser in the 56th minute and Sunderland pressed on for a second. It looked like a draw until Kieran Richardson went on a fine run down the left and teed up Teemu Tainio for a tap in on the 85th minute. The game was fast and exciting and would have entertained any neutral that took an interest. ![]() Celtic midfielfer Aiden McGeady The new season... I start with a home encounter against arch rivals Newcastle! All predictions are welcome and I will post up a match report as soon as I can, also find out if I manage to secure my transfer targets for the season. I have been given a transfer budget of £10 million by the Sunderland boardl. It should be an interesting first season! |

I like this thread - it's very well written and there's not too much writing. Very well presented too. I'm looking forward to reading more of this in the encounter with Newcaste - coincidence or what?

![]() Sunderland 1-0 Newcastle ![]() Sunderland scorer Djibril Cissé _____________________________________ Sunderland today got off to a winning start against arch-rivals Newcastle in a highly passionate north-east derby. It was a tight game with the early stages controlled mainly by the Geordies, there fans will have been praying for a good result especially since all the goings in in the boardroom have threatened to derail the club over the recent weeks. But at least the black and whites gave a fiery performance throughout. The first half somehow ended 0-0 with Newcastle forward Obafemi Martins hitting the bar from 12 yards, while at the other end a snap shot from Kieran Richardson brought a fantastic save from Given. ![]() Newcastle forward Obafemi Martins The atmosphere grew immensely in the second half and many of the players looked as though they needed earplugs. Sunderland started stronger but just couldn't find a breakthrough, Diouf went close on a couple of occasions, with the Sunderland fans roaring the team on the deadlock was finally broken on 64 minutes when Chimbonda spread a brilliant cross-field ball to Cissé, who controlled brilliantly by the half-way line and proceeded to dribble past Steven Taylor and Nicky Butt before curling in an inch-perfect 20 yarder into the far corner. It was a beautiful goal and Newcastle never seemed to recover from it, Sunderland could have gone ahead even further 5 minutes later when Andy Reid's free-kick whistled just wide. In the end though Sunderland did enough to beat Newcastle for the first time in 8 years and there will be plenty of parties on Wearside tonight! ![]() Sunderland MOTM El Hadji Diouf Interview with El Hadji Diouf: Jeff Shreeves: El Hadji, how pleased are you to get a result and put in a good performance on your home debut? Especially in a derby. Diouf: Yes, very pleased, we wanted to win this for the fans especially, and yes I am very pleased with my overall performance, the manager had a word with me before the game, he told me to keep my head down and do the simple things right and thankfully, I did. JS: What did you think about the atmosphere? EHD: I was very impressed, I have heard rave reviews of the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light before, but this blew away my expectations. I am thankful to the Sunderland fans for giving us such great support. JS: Finally, where can Sunderland go this season? EHD: We want to finish as high up the league as possible and do as well as we can in the cup competitions. We want to win something this season. Certainly with the players we have we should not be thinking of a relegation battle. JS: OK, thanks El-Hadji. EHD: Thankyou cheers. |

![]() Sunderland 0-2 Middlesbrough ![]() Sunderland opponents Middlesbrough ______________________________________________ Sunderland fans will be heading home extremely frustrated after their team failed to take the most guilt edged of chances. Middlesbrough were under the cosh right from the off but somehow still managed to record a win. Before the game all the talk was about the Wearsider's electric start to the season in which they had seen off arch-rivals Newcastle and Portsmouth, both with 1-0 wins. The atmosphere inside the Stadium of Light built up before the game and again the Sunderland supporters who are famed for the amount of noise they create really got behind the team. The first-half was all Sunderland, indeed they could have taken the lead as early as the 4th minute when Teemu Tainio's shot whistled off the outside of the post and out, then just 2 minutes later Kenwynne Jones broke down the right and played an inviting ball into the path of Cissé who miss-controlled it and could only watch as Marvin Emnes cleared. Middlesbrough's only first half chance fell to Jeremie Aliadiere when former Sunderland player Julio Arca played an inviting through ball into his path, it left him one on one with Craig Gordon but the Sunderland keeper made a fine save diving to his right. The mood in the stadium at half-time was one of frustration, but surely the Mackems would come through in the second half? ![]() Afonso Alves The second half started with a brief spell of Middlesbrough pressure, Tuncay went close and so did Alves. But after Sunderland soaked up this pressure they were soon on the offensive again. El Hadji Diouf hit the underside of the bar from 20 yards out but Robert Huth hacked away the rebound. More frustration ensued for the Black Cats fans however when on 80 minutes, new signing George McCartney gave away a silly free-kick 25 yards out and Alves stepped up to take it. He went for power and caught it sweetly, so sweetly that it flew through the wall and into the top right hand corner. The Sunderland players were stunned and never seemed to recover. It was made worse on 87 minutes when another defensive lapse, this time from Chimbonda, cost the team a second. His backpass was short and Stewart Downing raced through one on one with the keeper and placed it underneath Gordon and into the corner. The match was effectively over and the Sunderland fans made their frustrations known, boos rang around the Stadium of Light. Sunderland's 100% start to the season was over. ![]() Teemu Tainio Interview with Teemu Tainio: Jeff Shreeves: Teemu, just how frustrated are you? Teemu Tainio: Very because we done enough there to win the game by atleast 3 goals, our finishing was poor and in the end poor defending cost us, we have to take responsibility for this defeat because now the Sunderland supporters will be taking stick from Middlesbrough supporting colleagues and friends, and we do not want that. JS: Can you bonce back? TT: Definately, the manager (Keane) told us not to dwell on this result too much and try and focus on the next game against Tottenham. It will be another tough game, every game in the Premier League is hard. But when I look at the talent in the dressing room, I know that we are in for a good season. JS: Thankyou Teemu TT: Thankyou Jeff |
