Manager Mode bug - player disappears, replaced by GK in team mgm't

I've encountered an incredibly annoying bug twice now, 6 months apart. Early in two different manager mode campaigns, I've had a striker disappear from the team management screen, replaced by a nameless GK with a 139803851 rating. If I spend too much time replacing that slot with a real player, the game freezes; if I go straight into match, I'm playing with 10 men. I thought this might be related to editing formations, but returning to the default (I'm now using Newcastle) doesn't help.

Since this has happened multiple times, I'm hoping that someone else has experienced it as well? Any tips?

soz m8 have not had that glitch yet, must be really annoying
