Hi everyone, my name is Santiago Jaramillo and I was a Gameplay Producer for FIFA09. We are currently working on FIFA10, and I look forward to hearing your ideas and answering any questions you may have about the game. As you can imagine, I'm really busy making FIFA10 at the moment, but I will do my best to check the forum frequently and get back to you.
Regards, Santiago |

Hi! Welcome to the forum!
I have an idea for a new control that I hope could be implemented into the game in the near future. We have passing, and we have skills, but what really bugs me is that we have little control over when players attempt flick passes. If you're unsure what I mean, have a look at this video - most of the showboating comes from fancy passes rather than beating defenders 1v1: YouTube - Best of Showboat My suggestion is to use R1 + X for PS3, to perform a flick pass, or R1 + Square for a lobbed flick pass. The game would appropriately select the style of pass, all you have to do is get the angle right, and choose the direction and power. The passes could be split into two categories: standing flick passes and running flick passes. I believe this could be a great addition to FIFA 2010. If you've ever seen Cristiano Ronaldo play then you can't really argue that they will be too easy and will be abused - most of his passes are flicks. Perhaps there could be a 'flare' or 'swagger' attribute to affect the abililty of flick passes, but I won't get into that just now. I also think juggling could be improved. You see in the video that juggling with the ball is much more natural than in FIFA where you have to stand and do kick-ups first. My idea isn't perfect but I hope I've given you a spark of inspiration ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------ I also have a question: It seems to me that the pitches are smaller than in real life on FIFA, either that or the players are larger Is this the case, and if so what is the reason for this?

I don't think it's flicks and tricks that are needed for FIFA10, it is much improved responsiveness.
Also as others have said, Improved weather, Improved Manager Mode. Maybe full seasons, which includes cups and euro cups. Maybe the close offside decisions going in the attackers favour, rather than being to precise. |

Please improve manager mode, along with the kit numbers.
- More stadia if possible. - Day/night matches with the possibility to choose either (MM). - Ability to choose your stadium if the team's stadium isn't in the game (MM). - I think the crowd looks good, but it would be nice if you could improve it. Along with the sounds and atmosphere. - More be a pro seasons, with the ability to switch clubs. That's mostly it.

CAN YOU PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME AND PICK OUT SOME OF THESE SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS WHICH I TOOK ALL DAY TO GATHER.
General - Minimum full squad size of around 25. - More realistic league standings and results. - Create a new kit: increases sales but can only be done once every two years - Player form integration from Live Season affected by injury, performance, appearances, and consistency attribute. Form could be worked out by finding the average of the past three match ratings. - Actually create a manager that you can see during the game. - UEFA Champions League licence with the logo as a transition - Manage a national team Season Progression - More friendly matches at the beginning of the season, arranging the usual four then choosing from a range of pre-season tours from around the world. - At the start of the season, you have an option to create a stadium with a certain budget. - When you upgrade your Stadium Manager, you get a certain budget devoted to adding to your stadium. - More League matches in Midweek and on Sundays. - Higher financial income (TV money, league money, money from several different sponsors). - More frequent minor injuries (flu, stomach bug, ear infections, etc.) - Day-by-day option, especially in the transfer window - 7-day training schedule, with the option to get involved though mini-games and practices. - More realistic player growth – growth in spurts depending on form (higher form, faster growth). Players shouldn't get to ridiculously high ratings as their peaks. - Release players at any stage of the season - Job offers throughout the season, including from international teams - More multiple-choice questions - Edit kit numbers - Cup replays, then extra time and penalties - If a smaller team beats a much bigger team the fans can run onto the pitch and celebrate with the players. Scouting and Transfers - More Scouting from the AI - Reserve squad (optional to manage) - Player Shortlist - AI make more transfers - AI make more realistic transfers - Ability to offer players in transfer deals - Form affects a player’s value - Trial mode (would be similar to the training mode but you could test out a player before completing the signing). - Be able to request money from the board for players, and they give you it depending on their expectations, size of the club, or price/popularity of the player. - When selling, set an asking price for a player. - After a player is bought, you see a photo of him wearing your club’s shirt in a newspaper or something. - Players with low morale hand in transfer requests. Statistics - Be able to see league standings, top scorers, etc. from other leagues. - At the end of the season, you could reward a player of the year award to any one player in your squad (it could effect team chemistry if it’s a bad decision). - If you get sacked half way through the season, then your next job is half way through the season. - Individual player pages, showing their information and historical statistics such as a growth chart and goals/assists. - A team statistics page showing a league position chart, trophies won, etc. In-game - Seasonal and Regional Weather. - Be able to see other match results/scores at half time. - Louder crowds for more important games - A, B, and C team sets (Where you can choose three different sets of line-ups and tactics, similar to how Man Utd can use 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, or 4-3-3 based systems against different teams). End of Season - Team and player of the year awards - Season highlights video showing match results, progression of league table, edited highlights of your favourite games, and trophy celebrations. This could be saved externally. - Longer trophy celebrations Online - Online player scouting – a huge database of young talents is made available online. You could browse through it at the cost of 'virtual money per minute' and download and 'buy' players from the database. You could also make requests to EA for new young talents to be added if you know of any - Choose to play games against real people online - this would make Manager Mode more exciting and unpredictable as the other team can perform really well or really badly. The person you play against would be someone who selects 'random game' in online mode and participates in someone else's Manager Mode. - AND EVERYTHING THAT THE CURRENT-GEN MM DOES. Gameplay - Stricter Unbiased Refs - Short-Term and Long-Term Energy Bars - Increase effect of Energy on attributes - More Frequent Backheel Passes - Player Temper Meter - Less frequent pressure from CPU - More frequent use of stronger foot for some players - Opponent reaction to skills - Call up the keeper when losing - Set Pieces: Decide where certain players make runs, who goes up, who takes it, and assign it to the d-pad. You could therefore have up to four different set-pieces for each area of the pitch, and you could test them in a practice mode. - Players dive in front of a ball if a shot is taken in a crowded penalty area. - Control the keeper - Tell players to warm up and see them warming up. See the 4th official. - Diversity in running animations - Choose where to take the goal kick from, can get booked if you waste too much time. - More handballs. - Real-time throw-ins, and corner kicks without cutscenes. Arena - Play as Goalkeeper - A full team warm-up before the game - show off skills, practice shooting and passing, talk tactics – (even better before a 10 vs 10 game online). - See the stadium filling up as the game loads - More camera angles - Minigames Other - Stadium Creator - Photo Face - Save Replays to HDD - Variety in pitch sizes for different stadiums - Play music from your HDD - After goals show scoreline and goalscorers at the bottom of the screen. - Integrate views of the outside of the stadium from a blimp before kick-off if possible. - Achievement and Trophy integration - Create a Club feature - Cutscenes of fans reacting to goals scored and conceded, bookings, offsides, penalties etc. - In team management or before matches be able to see the players top 10 attributes and compare them with other players just by selecting one player and hovering over the rest. - Edit player's faces and share them online (people rate them out of 5 star) For the future - TV company sponsors such as Sky Sports - Enhance commentary - Enhance graphics including facial expressions - Commentators mention: players form, milestones, league positions before and after match, birthdays, job pressure. - More stadiums and leagues, especially Argentina and Russia. - Improve lighting effects - clouds, sunset, change in weather, seasons - In-game advertising - 5-a-side mode. Player Trademarks - Different Dribbling Styles for different players - Unique Skill Moves - Unique Free Kicks - Unique Celebrations - Enhanced Juggling - Unique Heading/Shooting Styles - No-look Passes - Lift the Ball over Players though Juggling - Unique Penalty Styles - Unique celebrations, including being able to walk and different celebrations for different types of goals (winner, equaliser, consolation) Online - Fantasy XI – three different leagues with three different amounts of points to spend (you can participate in all three if you want). Each player would be worth their average rating in points, as live season wouldn’t affect it. - Replay Centre - Rating and Goal of the Week/Month/Year - Rematch - FIFA 09 Clubs - dressing room at half time. Be A Pro - Play a whole in-depth career - Be on the bench and get told to warm up by the manager / request to be subbed on. - More transfers Atmosphere - Coin toss before kick-off- Not all crowds sit down - Regionalised sounds - Download Team Chants Downloads/Uploads - Songs and Chants - Scouted Players - Replays - Arena Tutorials and Mini-games - Real-Life Highlights - Menu Styles and Backgrounds - Stadium Packs Please Post More ideas, or ask if you want any explaining. MY FAV 1 IS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO MANAGER MODE CO-OP ONLINE WITH 1-4 PLAYERS. |

Hi Santiago Jaramillo, just a quick note to bring to your attend ......D-pad (360).
I'm a D-pad user on the 360 because of my big hands ,can the d-pad be more sharper, especially when passing, it needs to be as responsive as using the analoge stick. Thanks

Hello Santiago, Just a few points here
- Could you make teams default defensive line deeper in Fifa 10. In Fifa 09 teams defend to high up the pitch mostly which make it far to easy to get 1 v 1's with the GK and score. - Legendary difficulty level should be more based on dynamic attacking and tactically advanced football therefore players showing more skill not just a stats boost. - Make AI players use skill moves (especially on the higher difficulty levels). - CPU Free kicks need fixing, ive played around 900 matches against the CPU on Fifa 09 and ive only conceded 1 free kick free. Top class free kick specialists such as David Beckham should have dip, power and swerve on Worldclass difficulty and actually aim to the side of the keeper and not straight at him. On lower difficultly levels such as Professional they should still be dangerous but not as much. They should show variation also, so sometimes they bend it over the wall and sometimes lay it off to a team mate to strike it. Try to get the free kick score/miss ratio close to real life as possible. a balance between Fifa 08 and Fifa 09 would be good. - Players fall over to easily. seems they are to light. also when they fall over they get up to quickly. - Improve the ref AI so he doesnt get in the way of the ball as often. - Skill should be more of a factor in the game so there is more individualization of players so speed is less decisive. - Refine the ball physics. the ball rises over the bar to much when you shoot from distance. also when the ball sometimes deflects of a player it strangely speeds up. - Low crosses should be more powerfull so you can hit it hard across the box. - Different types of netting. ie, drooping nets for lower League teams. - New grass texture, which looks closer to photo realistic. - More editing options. being able to edit the names of unlicenced Tournaments in Manager Mode would be great. Thanks for listening and good luck with Fifa 10.

The crowds should be much more regionalized, the FIFA developers promised this for 09, but didn't do much. For example, in Southern Europe, South America etc. the fans use a lot of flares, while in Mexico they can use different drums, flutes etc. You get the idea.

Hello Santiago
my opinions for fifa 2010 better season mode - its basic and has been for a while and its quite repetitive and needs major improvement online - servers need improvement to cut out constant disconnections staduims - my general opinion is that 5 star uefa classified staduims should be in the game ie ibrox staduim and hampden park for example crowd - make them more interactive , ie going mental at late goals or v rivals etc

Hey guys,
First of all, just to clarify, I am a Gameplay Producer for NG consoles only (360 and PS3). A big part of my job is designing the Gameplay features we want to add/fix for FIFA10 and drive those throughout the production cycle, so it is always interesting to see what ideas and concerns about the Gameplay part of the game. I'll try to answer some of your concerns about other areas (i.e. Game Modes, online, etc), but will try to stick to the Gameplay part of it. Anyway, let's cut to the chase. There are tons of good ideas and feedback here. It would be too difficult and time consuming to reply to all of them, but I'll touch of some issues below. Manager Mode: Many of you hace suggested several improvements for Manager Mode in FIFA10. While we won't be able to address all of them this year, I can tell you that many of the issues you mentioned will be solved for FIFA10. We know that Manager Mode is one the most important Game Modes in the game, and as such it received a lot of attention from the development team this year. This means having more realistic results in sim matches (i.e. more realistic league table); having a more compelling transfer system; improved atmosphere, player growth, and many more. In the end, it is a matter of prioritizing and have a plan that will continue to improve MM not just in FIFA10, but in all the FIFAs to come. Flick Passes: We are constantly trying to improve our passing system, and part of it is adding variety. Last year we implemented swerve on through balls, so that skilled passers could play more effective through balls. Flick passes are definitely part of the game. What we have to ask ourselves is whether we want them to be contextual (such as back heel passes in the game right now) or using the R1 or RB modifier as suggested by Superman92. Ball Physics: We made changes to the Ball Physics last year, and it became what I think is the most realistic Ball behaviour in-air that we have had. However, there were a few problems that we did not have time to fix, such as the ball bouncing too fast after it hits a player. We are working this year to polish this feature and fix issues such as this. Defensive Line height: Very good point. We always need to have a balance between defending and attacking. At the moment, the attacking team has an edge when it comes to ground and lofted through balls. I think part of the problem is that the defensive line defends too high at times, and that our lofted through balls are too accurate. We are definitely aware of this issue and we hope that it will be much improved for FIFA10. Stamina and attributes: We already have long-term and short-term stamina. Also, stamina has an impact on certain attributes and CPU AI decisions. That said, there are still several Gameplay features that could use the impact of stamina. Let me know what specific aspects of the game you think should be affected by it... General Gameplay: Very good suggestions here. As I mentioned before, there is only so much we can do in one development cycle, so we won't be able to address all of the concerns at once. That said, in FIFA10 we hope you get a much better gameplay experience through improvements in all of our areas: CPU AI, set pieces, physical play, defending, positioning, GK, etc... To touch on some of the spefic comments below... You can already bring the GK up for a corner if you are losing by 1 or 2 goals in the last 5 minutes of the game if you change your mentality to Very Attacking. We will try to improve the context in which back heel passes are performed, and this includes using them more in the right situations. Difficulty level is always a tricky one. We want to make the game accessible for rookie gamers, and challenging and rewarding for experienced ones. Do you guys think it is too difficult or too easy in specific difficulty settings? And finally, a question for YOU: When you want to play a through pass (triangle in PS3 or Y in 360), do you point at the player you are passing it to? Or to the space you want to pass the ball into? Hope we keep this thread going. I'll try to comment on more of your ideas next time I'm here. BlueBlitz, I DID read all of your ideas and will consider many of them, even if I didn't mention them here ![]() Take care everyone, Santiago |

By saying that you'll "improve the atmosphere" for MM, do you mean that the crowds will be more regionalized and varied...?
Also, you say that you're working on NG (360 and PS3). Does this mean that the PC version nest year will still be the inferior, old-gen version? |

Regionalization is an ongoing feature, so it is definitely a part of improving the atmosphere.
As for your second question, the fact that I work exclusively on NG by no means imply that the PC version will be inferior. It is just a different production team, but I am sure they are doing their best to give you a FIFA10 for PC that will improve every year. |

Cheers for the reply Santiago
With through balls, I always point it in the direction I want the ball to travel. The best way, for me, to get the most out of this is by using manual through balls.
