PS3 Problem?!

Upon starting my PS3 up today I was prompted to downloads the system update, which I did and then installed.

I then began playing Fifa 08 online, the ball went out of play, opponent made a substitution then game just froze and went black. Came up Disc Read Error or something along them lines.

I went to quit game, and then when I tried to start up Fifa again it basically didn't show up the disc was inserted. I have since inserted a few other games and it is just not reading them/recognising a disc is even in.

Anyone with the same problems? Anyone know a fix?

I've heard that if you phone Sony they will send you another console?

I havn't run into any problems like that.....I would call Sony for sure. And they will fix your console if they can. If they can't you will more than likely get a re-ferb. I guess the process is pretty quick though.

Yeh will phone them up or maybe just take try take it back to the shop after all I am sure it is still under warranty.

It's only a few months old, just got it for christmas and I don't really want a refurbished one unless it will look brand new like mines does the now.

Also it is clearly a problem brought on by Sony after all it was them that produced the update, and that update clearly led to the problem. If you can't trust a manufacturers update on their own product, then thats pretty worrying.

I can see this happening to more people over the coming days if they download the update.

The re-ferbs come to you nice and shiny. They look brand new apparently.

and just a thought......the update was for ppl in North America. Other regions were not supposed to download from the playstation site.

I don't know what the number of the firmware update was.

But does anyone know how I can go back and restore defaults, to a time when my PS3 worked.

All this only happened about an hour ago might I add.

This update is version 2.20. so that shouldn't be a issue.

Go to your system settings and you should find a was to restore to defaults. (Can't think where it is off the top of my head.) If not look in you PS3 book.....or call sony. They are always very helpfull.

ive had that once before your laser has gone duff. phone sony and they will despatch a new console...console only though and they'll do a straight swap. i had mine delivered 2 days after i rang them. it was a 40 gb ps3...but they sent me a 60 by mistake!! no complaints here though!
