i beat barca with pompy and reading yesterday, i have also beat them with the mighty gillingham fc,

there is no better feeling than beating a player who just uses barca to give them a better chance of winning.

av-it barca players find me online and lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally notched my first Barca win - abeit courtesy of a penalty shootout. Was level for long periods before grabbing the lead in the 88th - inevitably he managed to break away and equalise somehow, and the game went the distance. Its a good feeling - but I almost get the feeling doing this is in a way disrespecting your opponents.

It could be interpreted as a "Watch me whoop you while using a lalalala team!" superiority statement, rather than a genuine attempt at a fair game...

I've beaten Barca with a half star Irish team Derry and from what i see from your games Dougaldinho, I think the reason why it come so close most of the time is cause we are more cautious and concentrating more.

Now maybe some people will start to believe that Barca and other 5 star teams really do play themselves. I bet if you go back on Inter you'll whoop the next person unless they are very good.

I have no problem with people picking 5 stars for ranked matches cause you want to win. But beating them with a half star team must make them pretty darn mad.

Just lost 3-2 to Barca playing the Rank 3235 ... was leading 2-1 but just got beaten by raw pace twice in the closing stages. I definately agree with you Rukus44297 - the concentration levels are higher but I am getting the honest feeling that the only real difference between good and bad teams in Fifa is their physical attributes. Pace, Strength, Height ...

Take Figo as an example of this, if anyone has played extensively as inter they will probably agree (may not of course...) that Figo is probably the worst 86 OVR player in the game. Hes tiny, has no strength and is ridiculously slow. His strengths lie in the technical areas. The issue is, these to my eyes hardly make any difference. I have been putting in crosses just as lethal and accurate with David Pipe of Bristol Rovers ... I just struggle to see the real impact of these attributes on the game.

I really suggest that Fifa 09 balances the impact of physical attributes of players, and enhances the impact of technical ones. The Barca front four arent great players in real life because they are twice as fast as every other human that walks the earth - they are good players because of their footballing technique.

I really wish the game would start reflecting this.

The squad update in mid-Feb may reflect things a bit more, especially on the Barca forwards

They were nice though, and congradulated me, which was cool, but I still feel light as a feather right now 5V1, Barca V the Hammers, and I pull off a 2-0. History in the making folks
Maybe because it's a LOT harder co-ordinating attackings with 4 other people than it is playing alone.....

I'll use Sao Paulo in ranked sometimes. But the pace of the better teams makes it unfair.

I think fifa 09 shoudl implement a rule of having to be within a star of an opponent if its ranked, im tired of wanting a good match between mediocre sides and the other guy picks barca so i try my chances and loose by a single goal i honestly couldn't help. And the goals and plays i make when playign with lesser teams are always better than when i use the five stars. I just wish more players thought like the majority of people on this ofrum and matched you for stars or at least made it interesting

great point and idea, if ea were to change this and work on the defending as far as the physical aspect giving you the ability to bump faster players and slow them down the game would take some major steps

how about a section for players for whom ranking isn't everything? a bit like unranked but the ranking system is balls, you get little for it in the end so why ruin everyones experience?

Very interesting.

If my opposition is a lesser team I always change to Leicester City

Good luck getting promoted to the Premiership, Bristol football is on a high at the moment and deserves some success and as much as I dislike your club, I am actually pleased whenever you are picking up points in the Championship.

I am assuming we won't be getting your support against West Brom in the FA Cup but thats okay. Maybe with a bit of luck and maintaining our current momentum we can make it to playoffs and join you in the Championship. Least we'd get to settle it on the pitch instead of cretinous forum posts anyway.

All the best.

I lost to Man Utd. 1-2 with Nottingham Forest. I'm thinking about using MU for a month to get off of lvl. 1.

Yeah I noticed that about Figo too. If you watch him in real life, he relies on his dribbling skills alone to beat defenders. He doesn't need speed because he's so skilled. However in FIFA, speed matters way too much and Figo gets beat so easily.

Quaresma is a similar player. Even though he's 85 ovr, he just doesn't do the job for me. Nani is even easier to use than Quaresma purely from speed and physical.

Being from the US, it's hard to find a good solid team on FIFA to play against these Barca Man U guys. But, I've been inspired. My hometown club is FC Dallas...so here goes. After three games...this is my result.

Game One:
FC Dallas vs. Celtic FC (Result FC Dallas 3-2)
Tough game....the speed difference is the hard part. Passing becomes massively important. Good game...had some rebounds come my way. Ended up almost blowing a 3-1 lead in the end. Held them off. Won 3-2

Game Two:
FC Dallas vs. Manchester United (Result: Draw 1-1)
Officially he beat me in penalties 7-6. But I felt pretty good about the game. The speed, again, was unbearable. I had no room for mistakes. I made a big one, and left Ronaldo one on one with the keeper. He made me pay for it. Kenny Cooper scored for FC Dallas, on what I must call a fantastic pass. I took him all the way through extra time, and through 7 rounds of penalties. He finally made a save and I went home packing. I think EA calls it a draw though, and I'll take it.

Game Three:
FC Dallas vs. Houston Dynamo (Result: FC Dallas 1-0)
At first, he had Bayern Munich picked....then after a while of staring at the screen, I guess his better side got ahold of him. He changed to Houston. Although, I might've liked to play against Munich after all. Closer game than I would've liked. It was close until he got called for a foul in the box and I got a penalty. I put it in, and that's how it ended. Pretty boring, but I'll take the win.

Summary: I think I'll keep playing with FC Dallas for a while. I'm not afraid of you Barca or Man U folks...you just bring it right on. I might very well get slaughtered, but it will be fun anyway.

Its good fun for a while - definately. But when you hit a bad spell and lose 5 games on the trot to players with absolutely zero ability just because they have mullered your team single handedly with Drogba, you start wondering quite why you are doing it. Good job on your three results.

Well said.

I just can't in my right mind play some guy with Arsenal when he picks F.C. Dallas. Who does that?

I know... a lot of guys.

i recently play a very good game with Rangers and Hearts, as a counter-attack minded player, my main moto is "a good offense is a good defense" and its proving very very good.

I usually play as Hearts for anyone 3-4 star and Rangers for 5 star. I must have lost about 10 games in 60 or so in the past week just because i know what im doing. Its very interesting.

I have a new found appreciation for Fifa 08' and have realized that it is

constantly play 5 star teams you abuse the player ratings but when you
play 3 even 4 stars and under you must really have a strategy and skills of course.

It might seem like a worthless cause but at least I know I'm having fun, even in defeat which is what the game is about.
Totally. I use Pompey, Red Bulls, Galaxy, or USMNT usually and I find it much more entertaining, it makes you pay attention and find space instead of just pounding it down the wing with C. Ronaldo or whatever.

A wise person (Me) once said: "When playing online, there are no better teams, just the skill of the player using the team."

Does that make any sense? I was trying to sound all wise and stuff. I'm trying to say it doesn't matter what team you use, it's your skill in playing that matters. Any competent player can beat an ameteur playing Barcelona using a team like Sheffield United.

Just use a 5 4 1 formation with ALL Defense against ManU and BARCA and oh yeah..now Chelsea. Just wait for a counterattack.

5-0 is not that bad if you are with lower teams
