The name stuck and HSV’s journey to become one of the best teams in Germany had begun. In 1963 the Bundelsiga was formed and HSV were one of 16 teams invited to join. HSV can boast being the only team to have played continuously in the top flight of the Bundesliga since its inception. Never being relegated unlike the 48 other clubs that have come and gone through out the years. Infact HSV have played in Germany’s top flight league continuously since 1919, never having experienced relegation. In the mid-70s HSV began a brilliant run that saw them capture numerous honors. In 1976 they won the German Cup and followed up the next year with a Cup Winner’s Cup. The took their first Bundesliga championship in 1979, fell just two points short behind Bayern Munich in 1980, and then won consecutive championships in 1982 and 1983 led by national star Felix Magath '83 also brought a European Champion’s Cup with a 1:0 win over Juventus F.C followed by another German Cup in 1987. In August 2004 HSV was upset in the early rounds of the German Cup by regional league side Paderborn The match became one of the most infamous in recent football history when it was discovered that referee, Robert Hoyzer had accepted money from a Croatian gambling syndicate to fix the match which he did awarding two penalties to Paderborn and sending off Hamburg's player Emile Mpenza. The resulting scandal became the biggest in German football in over thirty years, and was an embarrassment to the country as it prepared to host the 2006 World Cup. JOL GIVEN TOP JOB
First task, find a replacement for Rafael Van der Vaart. http://www.goal.com/images/610_hp.jpg Martin Jol has replaced Jurgen Ahlert and Marinus Bester as Hamburger SV’s team manager. Jol was originally hired to replace head coach, Huub Stevens but director, Bernd Hoffmann believes giving Jol complete control of the team will be to the benefit of the club. With Ahlert and Bester taking up different positions in the club, Ahlert as Chief Press Officer and Bester as Head Scout, Jol will now control all aspects of team management including his first task, finding a replacement for the Real Madrid bound, Rafeal van der Vaart. HSV and Real Madrid agreed on terms for the Dutch play maker last week, despite Jol being very vocal about his wish for Van der Vaart to stay with club. The move in the end an inevitable loss for HSV and Jol who will now face the challenge of finding a replacement for the talented midfielder. Jol may look to his home country of Holland to replace the leaving Dutchman with a fellow countrymen. Ismail Aissati and Ibrahim Affelay have been mentioned as possible transfer targets along with Jol’s former squad members at Tottenham, Adel Taraabt and Kevin Prince Boateng. Boateng stating during the week, a move back to Germany to play with younger brother Jerome would be a something he would be looking to do in his career, Jerome currently a defender at HSV. Although in comparison with Van der Vaart, these names appear to be a little lacking and Jol could be keeping his true target to replace the club’s former captain to himself. A move that wouldn’t surprise anyone, Jol well known for avoiding the media and as he would put it ‘the lalalala they make up’. Along with looking for a replacement for Van der Vaart, Jol will also be looking to add to his coaching staff, with his promotion to manager opening up the 1st team coaching role. Jol will be under no pressure to fill this role but will be looking to bring someone in before the start of the Bundesliga season in 6 weeks time.

GUERRERO: Team Can Shine Without Van der Vaart.
![]() HSV striker Paolo Guerrero has told media gathered outside the club’s training ground that he and his HSV team mates will have their chance to shine now that former captain Rafael van der Vaart has left the club. But far from being a stinging attack on the Dutchman, as some media outlets have reported, Guerrero praised his former team mate for his contributions to the team and said he understood why Van der Vaart made the decision to join Spanish giants Real Madrid. ‘It was tough to here that he would be leaving’ Guerrero said ‘but at the same time it gives the other members of our team the opportunity to come out of his shadow and shine. We have a talented side and some younger stars coming through who are already showing a huge amount of talent for their age. Martin (Jol) has said he will be looking to bring in a few new players to strengthen our midfield and attack, so expect us to be a threat in both the Bundesliga and the Champion’s league. We are a strong team who will fight and with Martin in charge the boys have all lifted their games. Expect big things from us this year.’ Guerrero getting to voice his thoughts before being dragged away by club officials who have adopted manager Martin Jol’s avoidance of the media. HSV are yet to announce any pre-season matches but with a scheduled clash against Scotland’s Celtic in the Qualifying round of the Champions League just 6 weeks away, manager Martin Jol will be looking to get his squad into form and a scheduled pre-season should be announced within days.

yeah bit of an issue, I have Castelen and Pitroipa who are both over 90 in sprint speed but lack in all other areas. I'm looking at a couple of players who can slot in to Van der Vaart's position will post transfer targets in a bit.

whatever you do, don't sell De Jong. I have him on my Juve MM, and he's great. He can play nearly anywhere, I stick him in the back four, and he's like a wall back there.

I play with HSV a lot and he's one player that i hang on to. he's great in defence and i usually play him as a right back but you can also play him as a defensive mid fielder id definitely recommend him if he's a free agent

JOL: Preseason Matches Will Be Used To Scout players.
![]() Martin Jol has stated in a rare press conference that the squads upcoming preseason matches will be used to have a closer look at the talent Holland’s top clubs have to offer. With rumours linking Jol with a possible move for PSV’s Ibrahim Affelay and a possible loan deal for Ajax’s newest signing Ismail Aissati. While Jol would not comment on the two players, it wouldn’t take a genius to know that these two stars would be on the top of his list. Both are from Moroccan decent and are known for their attacking flair and vision. Affelay has already being capped 8 times for the Netherlands national team and can play on either side of the park or in midfield, a quality similar to that of the man who he would be replacing Rafael Van der Vaart. Aissati is ranked as one of the best young talents to come out of Holland, and has been constantly linked to big European clubs with A.C Milan having a bid of £11,000,000 rejected in 2006 by Aissati’s then club PSV. It will be a tough ask for Jol to secure a loan deal for the 19 year old but with Marco Van Basten in charge at Ajax, Jol may be able to convince his fellow countrymen to a deal, that would suit the both of them. Ibrahim Afellay Ismail Aissati

Affeley is class, really solid. Look at this guy from FC Twente named Marko Arnautovic. He's rated low, but he's only 19 and he has a great header and he's really tall. I've never had him on my MM so I don't know how much he grows, but I've used him in kick off mode.
