Eric Geret's Calls it Quits!!
![]() Today Manager Eric Gerets has called his managerial stint at Marseille done. He has had many successful managerial stints at other clubs such as Club Brugge, PSV Eindhoven, and Vfl Wolfsburg. One of his most successful stints came at Galatasaray SK. He won the league in 05/06 with the most points ever in Turkish Premier Super League history. He came to Marseille in May of 07 and led the team to a 3rd place finish. This is what he had to say. " I am very thankful for the opportunity that Marseille gave me. The reason I am calling it quits is, because I would like to return to my country and be the manager of R.S.C Anderlecht or Club Brugge again. Thank you again for everything you have done for me and best of luck to you in the future Marseille." |

New Manager Found!
Today August 4th Marseille found there new guy. They have hired legendary french striker Eric Cantona. Cantona has always wanted a go at managing a team and his chance has come. Marseille have offered for him to be the manager for a year and said they will renew his contract next year if he pleases the board. ![]() He had this to say about the team. " We look as though we are a solid team we might be looking to bring in a few fresh new faces this year and ship some of the old out but we will see. We have already aquired Ben Arfa from our hated rivals Lyon. The Samir Nasri deal to Arsenal was a blow to the organization but the money will help in the transfer market as well." |

August 11th, 2008 RC Lens Vs. Marseille Matchday 1 Starting XI GK: S.Mandanda-74 LB: T.Taiwo-78 CB: J. Rodriguez-78 CB: G. Givet-79 RB: Hilton-79 CDM: L. Cana (Captain)-81 LCM: B. Cheyrou-77 RCM: K. Ziani-73 RS: H. Ben Arfa-75 LS: D. Cisse-79 CF: M. Niang-81 Pre Match Report: Well the start of the season is here and we have a match up of RC Lens Vs. Marseille to start the season off. Marseille look to have the better team and bigger advantage so expect them to pull out the 3 points from the game. Kickoff is about to start here we go for another great and exciting season!! First Half: RC. Lens Start of with the Kickoff 3rd min- Bad passing in the Marseille defense sees Lens strip the ball from Givet and Akale Kanga shoots a bullet towards goal but just wide. 10th min- Monterrubio dribbles through the midfield untouched and has a crack at goal from around the 18. Mandanda parries the ball over the crossbar for a corner. Nothing comes out of the corner. 12th min- Ouch that was a vicious tackle by a Lens player on Taiwo. Yellow card given to Y. Demont 17th min- A cross is wipped in the penalty area by Taiwo but no one is there to get on the end of it. Lens clears the ball with ease. 27th min- Akale has another chance at goal and misses by just inches again. Marseille needs to tighten there game up they came out very slow today. 38th min- Cisse dribbles into the 18 and slots a pass to Ben Arfa and he shoots but the keeper gets a nice save to it and the Lens D clears the ball in panick. 45th min- Ben Arfa tries a long range shot but it comes to nothing with the keep saving it with ease. HALFTIME Report: Well it looks to me Andy as if the RC Lens team came to show what they are made of today. They are taking it to the strong Marseille team today. Marseille has had maybe one or two good chances on goal both coming to nothing, while Lens has had maybe four or five. The score is tied 0-0 but Marseille are lucky to still have this game tied due to Mandanda between the pipes. He has kept them in this game so far. Second half about to begin as the teams walk back onto the pitch. Second Half: Marseille to kick off. 46th min- Cantona must have lit into the lads at halftime because they have come out on fire already. Hilton has just dribbled the right sideline from the kickoff and sent a ball into the box. Cisse gets to the end of it with a powerful header but Lens goalkeeper Runje got to it. 53rd min- Cana commits a foul at midfield hopefully there wont be a card. The ref comes over and talks to Cana but doesn't pull a card out. Phww just gave him a warning. 72nd min- Cisse shields the ball at the top of the 18 and lays it off to an oncoming Niang. Niang volleys the ball from the top of the arch and see it go inches over. 73rd min- Substitution Marseille: M. Niang and K. Ziani come off to make way for M. Moussilou and M. Valbuena. 76th min- Oh nooooo RC Lens have scored in the 76th min to make it 1-0. A Dindane found the end of a beautiful pass from Kalou and redirected it to the far post where Mandanda had no chance to save it. 79th min- GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL by Ben Arfa to equalize it at 1-1. Ben Arfa turns the whole D at midfield and sprints by everybody making it a 1v1 vs Runje. He slots the ball home cooly and makes the visiting fans go beserk. 89th min- B Kalou makes it 2-1 and surely they have won the game. He shoots a rocket from 25 out and watches it go be the diving Mandanda. Oh that has to be heart wrenching for Marseille. Full Time: RC Lens wins 2-1 Man of the Match: Olivier Monterrubio

Interview with Eric and Transfer News.
Reporter: Tough loss for you against RC Lens. How did you feel about the match? Eric: I thought that we played very poorly the first half but picked it up in the second half. We were great to respond to the first goal very quick but we slipped up in defense in the last few minutes and let them secure the 3 points. Reporter: Do you think that is because the team is not fit? Eric: Partially we have a great fitness coach but he has only been able to work with them for a week now since his hiring. We will work hard this week during training to get fit for the next match. Reporter: I have heard you are very busy in the transfer market any new news? Eric: Yes we have just sold two of our reserve goal keepers today and Bayern have rejected a bid we put in for Ribery. He is one of out top targets this year. He has been having a rift with the management over there and we would love him to come back. Reporter: Well good luck with the transfers and the rest of the season. Eric: Thank you ![]() Marseilles #1 Target this transfer period. |

Marseille Vs. Bordeaux Matchday 2 Stade Velodrome attendance 57,768 Starting XI GK: S.Mandanda-74 LB: T.Taiwo-78 CB: J. Rodriguez-78 CB: G. Givet-79 RB: Hilton-79 CDM: L. Cana (Captain)-81 LCM: B. Cheyrou-77 RCM: K. Ziani-73 RS: H. Ben Arfa-75 LS: D. Cisse-79 CF: M. Niang-81 Pre Match Report: Marseille look to avenge there loss of last week while Bordeaux won there game in easy fashion. Cantona trained the lads very hard this week and made sure they were ready to come out strong when the whistle blew. We will see what Ben Arfa and crew have in store for us. Kickoff is about to begin First Half: Marseille kickoff towards the South end. 1st min- I have never seen this happen before in my years of commentating. Ben Arfa just scored from the kickoff and caught the keeper napping. Cisse passed the ball and Ben Arfa saw the keeper out a little to far and took a shot to see what would happen. It happened that he ended up scoring and putting Marseille up 1-0 already. Thats how you come out strong!!!! 23rd min- Bellion crosses the ball in from the right wing and Jussie makes a sweeping run into the box and rises above everybody else and puts his header on target and past Mandanda. Only to see it hit the woodwork and go out of bounds. Unlucky for Bordeaux. 30th min- Niang takes an off balance shot from the right corner of the 18. It's on target and looks to be heading in. Ohh Rame makes a spectacular save to keep his team in the game. 35th min- Jussie shoots from point blank range and Mandanda gets a foot to it to send it out for a corner. The corner comes to nothing as Hilton clears it up field. 42nd min- Cisse cuts in towards goal and strikes the ball with his right foot to see it bounce in front of the Rame and go over his hand. Luckily for Bordeaux it goes inches wide of the post. 45th min- Jussie takes another shot that makes Mandanda make a good save to parrie it out for another corner. It is a low and hard corner to the near post. Bellion is there first and hits it towards goal. OOOO it hits the post danger is still not averted for Marseille though. A skirmish is going on inside the box for the ball. Finally Givet clears the ball away from danger. Halftime report: What a start to the game. Ben Arfa shoots the ball from kickoff and catches Rame napping and the ball goes into the back of the net. Very even first half with each team having 6 shoots and 4 on goal. Marseille have showed that last weeks slow paced game was a mistake they have come to play today. Teams are coming out now here we go with the second half. Hopefully its as exciting as the first. Second Half: Bordeaux kicks off towards the South end. 65th min- Hilton comes up from the right back spot and takes a shot of his own. He makes the keeper dive to the left but Rame comes up with the save. 72nd min- Cheyrou takes the ball at midfield and dribbles the left sideline. He serves in a swerving cross. Ben Arfa makes a blazing run down the middle untouched and unchalleged to rise to the ball. He gets a powerful header on it but he sees it hit the crossbar and go out of bounds for a goal kick. 81st min- Another shot from Cisse goes just wide. This is a dominating perfromance from Marseille this half. Full Time: Marseille win 1-0 and avenge the lose of last week Man of the Match: Hatem Ben Arfa ![]() |

More Leave the Stade Velodrome Two of the most lesser known people that have left are V. Gragnic to Stade Reims for 485,900 euros. W. Oruma has also left to join Valenciennes for 520,200 euros. ![]() V. Gragnic ![]() W. Oruma M. N'Diaye has gone on to seek first team action at US Boulogne. We wish all the best of luck to them as they continue there futbol at other clubs.
Transfers In: Marseille fans will be dissapointed but F. Ribery is no longer a target. Bayern have said that they don't have enough players to let him go. He will be a big target when the January Transfer period comes around. Marseille have made 3 bids for players. We do not know who they are but will find out very soon.
