January 12th, 2008
Marseille vs. Lille
Matchday 23
Kickoff: 3 PM
Stade Velodrome
Attendance: 58,387

Marseille Starting XI
Mandanda
Taiwo-Givet--Rodriguez-Hilton
Cana
Gonzalez--Cheyrou
Ben Arfa
Cisse-Niang

Referee for Todays Match: Sebastian Aucourt- French

First Half: Marseille Kickoff

15 mins- The first 15 have gone by and there has not really been any excitement in the match so far. Both teams look scared to attack and are just trying to keep possession.

30th min- We still have no great action in this game. Hopefully the pace picks up soon.

40th min- The first chance of the game has just come. Lille hits Marseille with a fast break counter attack. They clear the ball from around the top of the 18 to Michel Bastos who heads it to his running mate Fauvergue. He then finds Bastos again with a through ball. Bastos has his man beat and is on goal. Mandanda comes up with the save a hits it out for a corner though.

Half Time: The first half of this match at the Stade Velodrome was very dull. There has only been one chance on goal and it came to nothing. Marseille look to have come out sluggish and not ready to play today. Lille look to have more of a pep in there step, but yet they still have not produced much. If the match continues the way it is going I will be taking a nap before the game is over. Here come the teams out of the tunnel cross your fingers for a more exciting half.

Second Half: Lille Kickoff

53rd min- Marseille strike gold on there first try!! Givet steals the ball at the top of his 18 and passes it on to Cana. Cana dribbles up the field for the quick counter. He gives it to Cisse who finds Niang with a through ball. Niang in 1v2 vs Rami and the keeper. Niang freezes Rami with a nice Cruyff. He then finds himself 1v1 with the keep and finds the left upper ninety with ease.

56th min- Yellow card N. Plestan on a harsh tackle to Cisse.

63rd min- Bastos gets the ball in the corner of the pitch from a lobbed pass. Hilton gets cut and Baslalalalalalaves the ball into the box. Givet gets beat in the air and Debuchy has an unchallenged header towards goal. Mandanda goes to save it and hits it up. The ball hits the crossbar and bounces into the net. The match it tied at 1's now.

75th min-Bastos has a rip from the left side and its on frame. Mandanda comes up with another save and it leads to a Lille corner. Mandanda has to make another save from the corner. Here comes another one. This one comes to no avail though.

90 min- The last 15 mins of the match are played in the middle of the pitch. Full Time Whistle is blow. In my opinion I think that Bastos will win the MOM award. He played stellar this whole match.

MOM: Mathieu Debuchy

Debuchy wins the MOM award with his equalizing goal.

Two New Players Unveiled at the Velodrome Today.

Today Cantona and Diouf have unveiled two new signings. One is Frenchman Gael Clichy. The other is Tarik Elyounoussi. Clichy will be put straight into the starting XI while Ely will prob come off the bench or maybe play for the reserves for the rest of the season.

Gael Clichy was born July 26th 1985 in Toulouse France. He most notably known for his speed down the left flank. He has a very attack mind for a defender. While at Arsenal he had never scored a goal but was still an intergral part of the team. He learned most of his services from the great Ashley Cole. When Cole moved on to Chelsea he finally got his time to shine in the Starting XI. He comes to Marseille for a fee of 3.5 mill with a match salary of 28 thousand. With him and Taiwo on the outside back spots look for them to reack havoc on the oppositions flanks.

Tarik Elyounoussi is a young prodogy that should learn a lot from some of the older players. The 19 year old comes to Marseille from Fredrikstad where he had 61 apperances with 18 goals. He was born in Al Hoceima Morraco on Febuary 23rd 1988. On his first professional debut with Norway he scored in the first 4 minutes of being on the pitch, the fastest goal in a debut. Tarik is known for his skill on the ball and his speed. He should be a good assest to the team in few years time.

Scare For Marseille.

Nice Vs. Marseille

Marseille managed to win the game but they made it closer than they had to. Tarik Elyounoussi made his first apperance for OM in the match and he impressed for the little time he was in. He still has a little bit of fine tuning to do but he should be a good player in the years coming. This was a tale of two halves. Marseille dominating the first while Nice came out in the second half. Nice should have atleast equalized in this game and came out with a point but Marseille's defense did there job.

Marseille came out of the starting blocks quick in this match. Niang put OM up early in the match with a superb goal. With a little help from Cana and Ben Arfa, Niang got the ball at the top of the 18 and turned and fired a shot home. It went beautifully into the left upper 90.

Twenty mins later it was Ben Arfa's turn to capitalize. He put Marseille up 2-0 at the half hour mark. He put his chance away on a 1v1 with Nice keeper Hugo Lloris. Lloris had no chance as Ben Arfa always looked as though he would put it away.

In the 40th min it looked as though Nice had pulled one back. Bamogo put a header past Mandanda and started celebrating. He came to find out that he was offsides and the goal did not count.

In the second half Nice came out on fire with three chances in the first 10 mins. They finally put one away in the 57th min. Ederson shot a bullet into the lower right corner past Mandanda and into the net. This time the goal stood and the score was now 2-1.

In the 68th Bamogo saw another chance go begging. From a cross from the left hand side he rose above everbody to get his head to the ball. His shot went towards goal and off the crossbar then was cleared by Givet. Danger averted for Marseille.

The last twenty mins of the match were uneventful in shot wise but Nice dominated the possesion. They held on to the ball most of the time trying to find a seem between the defense of Marseille, but to no avail nothing came out of the possesion and the game ended 2-1.

MOM: Mamadou Niang
