CB: G. Givet-79

RS: H. Ben Arfa-75

CF: M. Niang-81

Pre Match Report: Marseille have been on fire as of late. They have not dropped 3 points in NINE straight games. This is the longest winning streak in the league right now. Metz are not sitting pretty though they are in 14th place losing there last contest to Nice. Nice are fight to stay above the drop zone even though it is early they do not want to pass that line. We shall see what this game has in store for us as the teams have just hit the pitch as we speak.

First Half: Marseille Ball.

6th min- GOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!!! Marseille have just scored a brilliant goal.... but wait what is this. They just called Cisse offsides and the goal is taken back. Lets look at the replay to tell that was to close. Yes the officials got the call right he was off by just a step.

13th min- Cisse shows Metz that he is for real this match. He has just scored another goal from a great service, but this time is was from the other wing player Gonzelez. Gonzalez beat his man down the line and served a drivin cross into the box to have the onrunning Cisse put a nicely timed volley into the back of the net.

25th min- Metz get a freekick in a very dangerous position outside the box. The kick is taken and it looks as though it has beaten the keeper but not the post. Wow that was a nice freekick unlucky to get rejected by the post though.

43rd min- Right before half Marseille have a great chance to make it 2-0. Gonzalez gets a timely through ball from Cisse that splits the defence. Gonzalez then lays his pass off to Ben Arfa and he has a go at goal. Marichez makes the save and pushes it wide and out of bounds for a corner. The following corner comes to nothing though.

Halftime: Marseille should be up in this contest 3-1 with 3 chances two for Marseille and one from Metz beeing squandered. Whoever makes more of there chances should win this game as neither are putting them away. We shall see what happens in the second half.

45th min- Metz Ball

50th min- I guess Marseille wanted to be the team that took advantage of the missed oportunities. Cisse makes the scoreline 2-0 with a nice cross in from Niang.

65th min- Metz player Gueye has a chance on the backpost and puts his header towards goal but misses the goal over the top. Metz just can not put some of there chances away.

77th min- Substitution Marseille:
IN: Valbuena
Moussilou

OUT: Jedinak
Ben Arfa

80th min- Off the Marseille corner new man Valbuena rises above everybody in the box and heads it towards goal. It rises above the keeper and past his fingertips but the crossbar saves Metz this time and denies the goal.

84th min- Cana serves his bending ball into the box and Metz almost score an own goal. The ball takes a early deflection off of Cardy and the already diving Marichez can do nothing about it except hope. The ball caroms off the post and out for a corner. They got lucky there.

88th min- Off of the corner Metz take advantage of the short numbers in Marseilles defence and use the counter attack to there advantage. They do a nice 1-2 combo in the midfield to get around the last defenders and P. Cisse beats Mandanda in the 1v1 battle. They grab the ball out of the back of the net quick and get back to midfield for the restart.

90 + Min- Fulltime whistle is blown and Metz did not have enough time to make a comeback.

MOM: Djibril Cisse wins MOM with his Brace that helped Marseille win.

Cisse celebrating one of his goals

Ruckus in the Locker Room????

In a very interesting email from one of the assistant managers they told Manager Cantona that there have been a few ruckuses in the locker room about the pre game music being played. They asked what should be done about this and Cantona just said " Are we still in middle school? We should not be worring about the music before games but concentrating on the game instead. How about they will only listen to my music and hopefully they like it. I guess i will have to step in and solve this childish stuff."

Ijeh has also returned from his scouting trip around Europe and while he was gone he found two great players that are now in the starting XI. Rumors of either Jedinak or Gonzalez may be getting loaned out when the transfer window opens in Jan.

Coupe Nationale
Round 2
Strasbourg Vs. Marseille

Starting XI

GK: R. Riou-60
LB: T.Taiwo-78
CB: J. Faty
CB: R. Zubar- 73
RB: L. Bonnart
CDM: L. Cana (Captain)-81
LM: B. Cheyrou- 76
RM: M. Valbuena-77
RS: M. Moussilou- 71
LS: D. Cisse-79
CF: M. Niang-81

Pre Match Report: I have heard rumors that Marseille are resting most of there regulars today to give some of the reserves and subs some playing time. It is sort of confusing considering they just played last week in league play and the full strength team tied 0-0. Maybe the backups have something more to play for to show what they are made of. Strasbourg has not had the best of season's so far. They are currently sitting in 18th in the league and have had a misserable start to the season. Maybe they are putting more focus on the Coupe Nationale. Who knows what some teams are up to these days but here come the teams out onto the pitch. See you at halftime folks.

First Half: Strasbourg Kickoff

3rd min- Niang dribbles the left flank and fakes his cross in and cuts back. He then crosses from the corner of the 18 and finds Cisse. Cisse gets his shot on goal but Cassard gets to it with ease.

11th min- Johansen gets the ball in between half and the 18 of Marseilles box. He lobs the ball off to his teamate before Cana can tackle it away from him. His lob finds the head of Renteria and he flicks it on to a wide open Abdessadk. He takes a beautiful touch off the chest and fires a one time shot towards goal. Riou makes the timely save and punches it out for a corner. The corner comes to nothing.

22nd min- Moussilou losses the ball near midfield and Strasbourg pulalalala hard towards Marseilles goal. Fanchone puts good pace on his pace to get it to an on-running Renteria. He turns and takes his shot and Riou comes up with a save but it is very weak. The ball bounces up in the air next to the goal and Renteria gets the rebound into the back of the net.

http://colombia.worldcupblog.org/files/2007/11/wason.jpg

28th min- A corner is awarded to Marseille. Valbuena takes in inswinging corner and Cisse gets his head to it. The ball misses the goal by inches

41st min- Cisse and Niang set up the dynamic conection once again. This time Cisse assists Niang. Cisse grabs the ball from midfield and dribbles with pace towards the defence. He then slots his through ball onto Niang's foot. Niang turns the last defender and makes his 1v1 count. He shoots his low drivin ball into the bottom left corner to tie it at 1.

http://s.om.net/om/file/200712/fond_niang_1024.jpg

Halftime: The Marseille reserves and subs are looking to hold there own out there on the pitch. Even though two regular startes combined for the goal many of the other players have had chances. Valbuena looks to be the best of all of the non starters today. He is using his passing skills to show manager Cantona that he should be starting regularly. Strasbourg scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute but Marseille were persistent and got the equalizer right before half. This looks to be and exciting cup game.

Second Half: Marseille kickoff

50th min- Looks as though Strasbourg are pushing to get another goal with these substitutions.
IN: Gargorov
Rodrigo

OUT: Abdessadki
Cohade

61st min- Cheyrou steals the ball from Strasbourg Captain Lacour near the penalty box. He takes two touches towards goal and fires a laser to the bottom right corner. It misses by maybe 2 feet.

84th min- E Mouloungui gets injured on a harsh tackle by Taiwo play resumes though and Marseille kick it out of bounds for the injured player.

85th min- Substitution Strasbourg
IN: Gameiro

OUT: (Injured) Mouloungui

End Of Regulation: After the foul that Taiwo caused Strasbourg started to put the pressure on. The last 5+ minutes the ball did not leave Marseilles half. This should be an exciting over time period.

90th min- Substitution Marseille. Looks as though they are bringing on some regulars to see what they can produce in this extra time.
IN: Jedinak
Gonzalez
Ben Arfa

OUT: Cheyrou
Valbuena
Moussilou

99th min- Niang steals the ball from a faltering Strasbourg defence and takes a long touch but Cisse gets ahold of it before Niang can. Cisse takes a shot and Cassard makes a game saving parry. The ball bounces back towards play though and Cisse and Cassard both go for it. Cassard finally ends up with the ball and danger is averted for Strasbourg.

END OF FIRST OT

105th min- Marseille Kickoff

120th min- GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLL!!! What a brilliant finish by Cisse in extra time of the OT. Marseille have put the pressure on Strasbourg in overtime and it paid off. Once again Niang and Cisse pair up to get the goal. Niang finds Cisse near the top of the box and gives him the ball. Cisse then turns and takes a one time shot on goal. Cassard can't make the save and the ball hits the back of the net and the visiting Marseille fans explode into chant. This game has to be surely over with now.

Full Time: Wow what a match that was. The game winning goal was scored in the last seconds of OT. Nobody could of asked for a better game.

MOM: A shocking winner?!?!

Wason Renteria

1 vs. 2

Tomorrow is a highly anticipated match up of 1 vs. 2. Marseille is sitting pretty in first place as of today by just one measly point though. St-Etienne has been in first place all season until last weekend when they lost to a very tough Bordeaux side 1-0. Marseille jumped them with a 2-0 win over Caen. Marseille have steadily been climbing the tables all season long and finally reached the peak just in time to make this game one of the most anticipated games of the season.

St-Etienne's player to watch out for is suprisingly not who you would think. Ilan is the player to look out for as he is the teams leading goalscorer and he is also in the race for the golden boot award. He has put 8 into the net so far in 16 matches. Gomis will also be there for support but he has not been on fire as of lately. Gomis has scored only 5 goals this season compared to his 16 of last season.

St-Etienne's player to watch: Ilan

Marseille's player to watch would be Djibril Cisse. He has shown his best lately scoring 4 of his 7 goals in the past 4 games. If you tuned in last week you saw Cisse score a dramatic goal in double OT of the Coupe Nationale to send Marseille throw to the 3rd round. If everything stays the same he should put atleast one in tomorrow against St-Etienne. His teamate Ben Arfa is also tied on the score sheet with 7 but he has cooled off since the beggining of the season. He will still play an important role in the game tomorrow.

Marseille's player to Watch: Djibril Cisse

The host stadium will be Stade Geoffroy Guichard. The stadium management have made sure all the precautions will be planned out before the match. There will be more police than normal to keep the fans from rioting and starting fights before and after the match. A board member has said that they just want this to be a good match and everything go well, but we know how some of the crazed fans can be during big matches. Marseille should arrive at the stadium two hours before kickoff to make sure no mishaps come up.

PREDICTIONS?

Nice MM, seems Cantona was a manager of another MM I read recently - I think it was a Man Utd one.

Pre Match Report: The atmosphere here at the Stade Geoffry Guichard is electric as we wait for the kickoff. The away fans look to be showing up in huge numbers and making almost as much noise as the home fans. The match tonight is being played in front of a sold out stadium. Everybody thinks this should be one of the matches of the season if not better. Both teams have started out different this season with St-Etienne being atop the table all season until last week, while Marseille have climbed the table all season. Marseille look to be the team with more momentum coming into this game tonight so I choose them to win 3-2. Here comes the teams out onto the pitch now and here comes the flares as well.

First Half: St-Etienne Kickoff

8th min- We have our first chance of the game come and go. Marseille player Niang dribbles down the left flank and dribbles into the box. He looks for the wide open Cisse at the penalty spot, but Nivaldo reads it well and gets to it first.

12th min- GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!!!! Off of the first corner of the game Marseille have put it in. Gonzalez takes his out swinging corner into the box and Ben Arfa beats his man Matuidi to the ball and redirects it to the back post. The keeper has no chance and has to watch it go into the back of his net.

18th min- Gomis tries a first time volley at the top of the box off of a deflection. His shot goes wide but it was a nice effort.

21st min- The woodwork has saved St-Etienne from being down 2-nil right now. Niang again serves a ball into the box and the on running Cisse gets his head to it but watches it hit the woodwork and cleared from danger.

26th min- Gomis tries with another attempt on goal. His shot is hard and low but Mandanda makes it look easy and dives to his right for the easy save.

31st min- The unexpected has just happened. The visitors are up 2-0 and yes thats right Ben Arfa has scored again. Jedinak gets a nice through ball down the right from Cisse and he serves it in one time. Ben Arfa puts it into the back of the net calmly like he has done it before.......oh wait he has.

Halftime Report: Well the man of the half right now seems to be new boy Ben Arfa. He was mentioned in the player to watch section of the paper yesterday but he was not the player to watch. Well you better keep your eyes on him now with him scoring a brace in the first half. The home fans are sitting in shock while the away fans are going crazy. St-Etienne need to pick there game up in the second half if they want to make this a game.

Second Half: Marseille Kickoff

50th min- St-Etienne see one of there best chances go by without scoring. Feindouno beats Givet down the right side and serves a long cross into the box. Gomis races back to try and get his head to it, but he misses the ball completly. Oh no that could have been a goal for them.

53rd min- Substitution Etienne.

ON: F. Guarin
C. Varrault

OFF: Matuidi
Perrin

Perrin

54th min- Right after the substitutions Gomis has just made this a game. He scores off the low drivin corner to the near post. He deflects the ball past Mandanda to the back post and in.

67th min- Cisse has just made it 3-1. Cisse gets a pass near midfield with a man close on his back. He gets the ball and turns his man. He then uses his speed to leave him in the dust and make it 1v1 with Janot. He slots it cooly into the bottom right corner. The man to watch has put his say into this game now.

78th min- Marseille are showing they have now mercy for there opponent. Cisse has now just made it 4-1. You think that the St-Etienne defence would learn from there mistake last time on Cisse, but obviously they didnt. He turns his tight mark again and goes towards the goal 1v1 again. And he repeats his shot into the lower right corner. A brace from Cisse and Ben Arfa who would have thought?

80th min- Cheyrou and Valbuena make an apperance into the game. Lets see if they can do any damage in ten minutes.

Fulltime whistle is blown.

Post Game Report: A game that everybody thought would be a tough battle turned out to be a lopsided game. Marseille brought it to St-Etienne and showed them that they deserve to be in 1st place. Cisse and Ben Arfa showed why they are two of the top players on the team today. Both of them scoring a brace to show how dominant Marseille was today. The away fans are still in the stadium cheering and celebrating the win. This was a game of goals today and all but one coming from Marseille.

MOM: Hatem Ben Arfa
