Cheers . Bayer start with $4mill, but I allowed myself three players - Petric, Kezman & D'Alessandro. I'm in November.

if they start with £4 mill how were you able to buy kezman and petric for £6 mill. also in your earlier posts it says that you bought carlos and a few other players so how did you afford them if you start witha £4mill budget?

How many questions can you ask? I've never completed a season like this. Six or seven a day.

Bayer Stunned By Relegation Dogs

A frustrated Bayer Leverkusen were stunned by a one nil defeat at rock bottom FC Nuremburg, who haven't got one point all season. A fity eight minute header from Nicky Adler was enough to seal the tie for the home side, and this defeat drops Bayer into third, behund Bayern Munich and Schalke 04.

With Bayer the heavy favourites going into the game, the first half was somewhat of a suprise, with Nuremburg playing an excellent and strong keep ball game. Bayer struggled to retain the ball for long periods, and they only had two efforts on goal; a long range effort from Gourcuff, straight at Blazek in goal, and Kezman with a toe poked strike that clipped the post. Although Nuremburg didn't have many efforts, and none on target, they looked the better side going into half time.

Fifteen minutes after the break, they had their reward. Castro brought down Galasek on Nuremburgs left wing, level with the box, and the Czech whipped a cross in. Nicky Adler rose above Thiago Heleno, and knocked the ball past his namesake in goal to give Nuremburg their first in four games.

This seemed to give life to Bayer, and they really turned the pressure up. Schneider had a close range volley denied, before missing a sitter at the near post. Kezman was unfortunate not to score when, put one on one with Blazek, his shot was tipped round the post. When Thiago Heleno was dismissed for a second yellow with what seemed a legitimate challenge, the game was really summed up for Leverkusen. The final whistle blew ten minuets later, signifying the first three points of the season for Nuremburg, and a drop to third for Bayer.

Serbia 3 - 0 Frankfurt

An accidental scorcher from Mateja Kezman completed a hat trick for both him and his club, sealing a three nil win against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Bay Arena. Bayer will be pleased with the victory after the poor result last week, as it ends them into second place, one point behind Schalke 04 with a game in hand.

Up until the goal, the game was very eventful. A Takahara header didn't trouble Adler, and at the other end Markus Proll was saved by his woodwork, as a thumping Petric header nearly snapped the bar in two. And then in the fourty second miniute, Kezman broke the deadlock. Drifting away from Inamoto, he supplied a sumptuous volley into the bottom corner past the static Proll, for one nil.

And Frankfurt did little to hit back. For the remainder of the match, the away side recorded only three shots: a near post header from Takahara, which rattled the side netting, Thurk had Adler scrambling to get across to his low drive and ex Manchester United left back Patrice Evra fired a swinging effort wide. The second goal, whilst perhaps undeserved, was obviously undealt with by Frankfurt.

One touch movement from D'Alessandro and Petric made the space for Kezman to burst thorugh. Gourcuff popped a ball through the shocking defensive line, and Kezman took one touch before popping the ball in for two nothing.

And then the third goal, perhaps one for goal of the season. Another ball through from Petric found Kezman. Believing he was offside, he thumped the ball at goal, giving a little smile as it found the top corner from thirty yards out. He didn't realise the gaol had counted, until he was mugged by five of his teammates.

Dortmund Crowd Upset By Bayer Victory

Dortmund captain Christian Worns was unable to rouse his team to any result today, as his side were comfortably dispatched by Bayer Leverkusen in a two nil victory for the away side. Goals from D'Alessandro and Barnetta sealed the tie, and Bayer will be more than happy with the result against pre season title contenders.

The first, a real beauty from Barnetta. A headed clearance from Kovac only found Petric on the edge of the box, who lofted a pass to Barnetta on the edge of the D. Hitting the volley, Barnetta produced a wonderful volley into the tp corner from twenty yards, past the flailing hands of Roman Wiedenfeller.

The second goal, down to poor defending, Kovac to blame again. The Croatian took far too long clearing the ball, and thumped his effort into the leaping D'Alessandro. The ball fell kindly for the Argentinian, who smacked the volley past the german in goal to eventually seal the tie.

The rest of the game was, being honest, very uneventful. No efforts really troubled Weidenfeller, and at the other end Adler made onyl one save, to deny a long range drilled shot from Frei. Petric, playing against his former club, got less than a friendly welcome, being booed whenever he toucched the ball. Two fans were apprehended for throwing objects at the Croatian, swiftly dealt with by stewards. It will mar a very uneventful game.

Berlin Disheartened, Bayer Advance

Thanks to one of the best header seen in this competition, Mlade Petric found Bayer a path through to the next round of the Deuschland Pokal in the twentieth minute of Byer Leverkusens tie against Hertha Berlin. After the two nil result previously in this fixture, Berlin were looking for an upset but were unable to test Adler in the Leverkusen goal.

In the twenty minutes before the goal, Bayer had two chances to go ahead. A cross from Schneider flew across goal and was met by Petric, who just couldn't keep his head down. And then a lofted ball over the defense found Kezman one on one, on the penalty spot, and all he had to do was get the volley on target. However, his effort was hopelesly wide, and his face showed how dissapointed he was.

However, all of this was immaterial when the goal came. A early lofted cros from Schneider found Petric just inside the box, which he met with a stunning diving header. The ball flew over the unpositioned Drobny and cannoned in off the bar, to the delight of the home fans.

Other efforts before half time should have increased the score, with Kezman and Petric drives somehow missing the target. D'Alessandro had a long range shot saved, and Roberto Carlos saw his free kick drift just over the top.

The second half may as well have hapened, except for two efforts that could have levelled the tie. The first, a free kick from Miniero somehow missed the target, slamming the side netting. And the second, one that should have equalised, just seven minutes from time. Deflections from an early cross found Patrik Ebert just eight yards from goal. His first effort was straight at the despairing Adler, who made himself big and somehow got to the shot. The ball fell again to Ebert, who placed his effort past Adler. But Thiago Heleno slid in, blocking the effort just a few yards from the equaliser that would have carried the tie into extra time. Castro cleared, and a few minutes later the final whistle blew to send Bayer through.

Gekas To Leave Leverkusen?

Greek striker Theofanis Gekas has hinted at a move away from the Bay Arena. The greek made just one appearance for the Werkself this season, and is disgusted at his playing time, totalling less than nintey minutes. Displaced from the starting line up along with Stefan Kießling for the striking duo of Mladen Petric and Mateja Kezman, who combined have scored more than twenty this season, and is currently unhappy with his part in the team. He managed to catch up with Mr Musgrove to get his view on Gekas' involvement in the side:

Rumor has it that Theofanis Gekas is uncomfortable at the club, and wants to leave. Any thoughts?

-"Theo is a quality player, I would hate to see him leave the club. But he has to understand that to play first team football, he has to play better than anyone else in his position, and he is not currently doing that"

How would he fight his way into the side, with Kezman and Petric on such prolific scoring form?

-"He has to prove what he can do, and when Mladen and Mateja hit a dip in their play, as all strikers do, he has to take the oppurtunity. I am not going to bend to the whim of a player who is unhappy, he has to prove to me that he wants to play and can play at his best consistently"

Bochum Hold Werkself To Goaless Draw

Inspired keeping from Czech international Jan Lastuvka grabbed a point for an awful Vfl Bochum side lucky to come away with anything against an exhausted Bayer side. Three games in a week had obviously taken its toll upon the Werkself, who lacked that vital touch able to put the ball in the net.

Early on, although chances were scarce when they came they could easily have been goals. Kezman had a low effort blocked, and Petric was brought down as he shaped to shoot in the box, but play was waved on. D'Alessandro had a long range effort clip the post, and just before half time Petric rattled the bar with a thumping header.

The second half kicked off with a suprising three changes, almost certainly for fatigue; Theofanis Gekas replaced D'Alessandro to play against his old club, Barnetta was replaced by Kiebling and Gourcuff came off for Friedrich.

Only two minutes into the second half, Vfl Bochum dug themselves a real hole when Algerian defender Antar Yahia brought down Petric as the last man. A straight red for him, leaving Vfl Bochum with just ten men.

Bayer began to dig in very high up the field, mounting almost constant pressure on goal. Gekas had a shot blocked out to the wing, and when the resulting cross came in he thumped his header against the far post. At a croner he had a near post effort sliced wide. With just nine minutes left, Petric had a chance to break the deadlock when a Mateja Kezman cross met his left boot. A beautiful reaction save from Lastuvka tipped the ball against the bar, and from the corner, which was played short, ROberto Carlos silkily found his way to the edge of the area and smacked one goalwards, only for Lastuvka to shine again and tip the ball wide. The Czech would recieve man of the match, totalling eight saves in all.

An unfortunate result for Bayer Leverkusen, who now go into perhaps their toughest game of the season, against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Three Goals, Three Points For Bayer

Despite his teams excellent run of form, Oliver Kahn was at times rendered useless today at the Allianz Arena, as visitors Bayer Leverkusen cruised past the home side with a three one victory, taking them to top spot. WIth strikes from D'Alessandro, Petric and Kezman getting the vicotry for Bayer, fans will be expectant in the next few matches.

The score was opened just ten minutes in, when Kezman broke away with Petric in a two on three situation. Beating Lahm and dragging Lucio wide, the Serbain played a low ball back into the box for Petric to skip away from Van Buyten and tapping the ball low past Kahn. An excellent finish, and one of only three shots in the first half, with Kezman shooting straight at the keeper, and Petric dragging a header wide.

The game really sparked off when just two minutes into the second half, Bayern had a penalty. Frank Ribery went past Castro and ran parrallel with the goal, up the penalty area line. Thiago Heleno slid in, catching the ankle of the French international. The referee pointed to the spot, judging that the ball had been inside the box when the foul was made, but Ribery had to be stretchered off. Experts believe that a broken ankle could keep him out for up to two months. He was replaced by Schlaudraff.

Toni stepped up to the spot, and fired low past a static Adler to level the tie, celebrating ecstatically with his teammates. If he had known that only nine minutes later the tie would be level, perhaps he would not have been so joyfull.

Another break, this time from Bayern pressure, leaving Phillipe Lahm well out of position. Kezman took full advantage, sprinting into the space and drawing Lucio with him. As he reached the area he knocked the ball sideways for the advancing D'Alessandro, who hit the ball first time with his left foot past Kahn from twenty yards, in off the post. The Allianz home crowd was silenced.

On the hour mark, when Kahn came to collect a seemingly harmless through ball, only for Kezman to take it from his toes and tap into the empty net, Bayern were wounded and the game was sealed. Bayer will hope to use the victory as a boost for the coming games, whilst Munich will reflect and try to strengthen up their mistakes for their next tie.

Upset Avoided, Points In The Bag At Hansa

Bayer approach the new year with a 100% December record, thanks to two goals from Kezman to neatly dispatch Hansa Rostock at the Bay Arena. In a match that totalled twelve shots, Bayer reigned control over the majority of the match, and Hansa never really looked dangerous.

The first goal came in the twelth minute, with Kezman on the break. Looking for support and finding none, he made an absolute fool of Christain Rahn by rouletting round him, before opening up and placing the ball with a hefty sideffot past the oncoming Stefan Wachter.

Only twelve minutes later, Hansa were level, and in a fantastic way. Picking the ball up inside the center circle, Rost beat Gourcuff with pace before unleashing a Gerrard-esque thirty five yarder past the groping hands of Adler, into the net. The away fans went absolutely barmy.

Their hope would last until the seventy second minute, perhaps left a little late by the Werkself. A chipped through ball by Petric totally fozed the Hansa defence, and Kezman was on it like lightning to go one on one. Faking the shot to send Wachter to the floor, then knocking it past him. And slotting home for the second time in the match to effectively seal the three points.

Two one a fair result in the end, with only one more match before the transfer window is opened.

Karlsruher Duped, Transfer Window Opens

http://sportard.wdr.de/sp/fussball/news200708/25/img/bayer_bg_1_ap_400.jpg

Once again we are able to delve into the world of transfer rumors, as Bayer Leverkusen complete their year by defeating the untroublesome lalalaarlsruher at the Bay Arena. Goals from Roberto Carlos and Yoann Gourcuff notched the scalp for Bayer, who are on the hunt for new players now that the window is open.

Just four minutes in the deadlock was broken, with a real beauty. Kezman turning and sliding, eventually hacked down on the edge of the area. Roberto Carlos lined the free kick up, and drove one in off the crossbar. First goal of the season for the Brazilian, who is probably happy to have broken his duck for the club in such style.

The game was pretty quiet up to the second goal on eighty minutes, with efforts being medricore at best. Kezman and Petric efforts were denied, while D'Alessandro had the keeper scrambling only for the shot to drag just wide. The second goal was a welcome quality change from the poor efforts.

Gourcuff, played through from a wonderful ball by D'Alessandro, decided to finish in style. Drawing the keeper, the young frenchman cut the ball behind himself and dug out a sublime chip over the poor goalie, and despite defenders hoofing the ball away it was judged that the ball had indeed crossed the line. Replays wopuld show the entire was over by a few yards before cleared.

Legend Leaves, Wolfgang Disgusted

Bayer Leverkusen chairman Wolfgang Holzhauser has spoken about his 'disgust' for the departure of club legend Bernd Schneider to arch rivals Vfb Stuttgart for reportedly £5.5 million. The thirty five year old has appeared over 250 times for the Werkself, scoring thirty five, and Holzhauser believes he is unreplaceable. We managed to snatch a quick interview with Mr. H as he left the Bay Arena:

What do you make of Bernd Schneiders transfer?

-"It truly disgusts me. Bernd was a friend of many of the board, and a true legend at the club, and I am really saddened that he has gone"

Can you blame anybody for a move that the player chose?

-"I cannot blame Bernd or Mr. Musgrove, as it comes down to personnal opinion whether or not a player is necessary. But in my opinion, Bernd is unreplaceable. He is possibly the best player Germany has ever produced, and the fact that he left so cheaply really horrifies me"

In other transfer news at Leverkusen, Theofans Gekas left the club yesterday for a fee of £4.4 million to join FC Hannover 96, after becoming unhappy at the club. Michale Papodopolous and Jan Callsen-Bracker have left the club on loan to undisclosed teams.
