FIFA Patch Problem (PC)

Has anyone been able to fix this yet? It seems the problem has been bogged down. This is the problem:

I am using the Australian version of the game - which is the "NA" version as far as EA is concerned.

Now - Update #1 (squad update) works no problems.

Update #2 (patch update) gets to 78% and then says that the ini_pc.big file is an old file and you need to do the first update first (but I've already done the first update you see). So this will not install.


Also note: Those who are getting stuck on around 18% it's because it doesn't understand your devdata file (probably because you have modified it so it actually works haha). Just back it up, go to the DVD/etc and get the original devdata file and do the update then.

yeah, mine stops at 17% too...but i dont know what file. I've tried all the files, and none of them work for me...I live in Hong Kong...I'd appreciate it if someone could help me...I really want that transfer update :P

Try doing like this:
first of all uninstall your copy of fifa from your pc
after that hold an open internet explorer window at:
:: FIFA 08 :: Patches ::
turn back to your DVD and compare the languages your dvd has for installation:

UK: English UK
North America: English US, Spanish Mexico
Southern: Spanish Spain, Portuguese Portugal
Central: English UK. French France, German Germany, Italian Italy, Dutch Netherlands
Brasil: Portuguese Brasil
Nordic: English UK, Swedish Sweeden, Danish Denmark
Eastern: English UK, Polish Poland, Czech Czech Republic, Hungarian Hungary, Russian Russia

Based on the language options you have on the installation choose your patch: UK, North America, Southern, Central, Brasil, Nordic or Eastern.
And problem solved.
After the installation you may put on your unofficial patches.

That happened to me too. I bought a new laptop just for this game. When is ea going to fix this s**t.

Move the 'old file not found' error dialog out of the way (click on its title bar and drag it) and the progress dialog underneath will tell you which file is the culprit

I got this ini_pc.big fix file (5KB) in my e-mail. Anyone using NA version having problem with installing the 2nd patch just e-mail me . I'll send u the fix , just copy it to "C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\FIFA 08\data\cmn" file & replace/copy the fix to replace the old ini_pc.big file. After that the 2nd patch will install successfully.

Note: The 2nd patch will work if only u have installed the winter patch. Btw my e-mail is robertlee345@hotmail.com

i hope u get this sorted as soon as possible. i have contacted local ea office who have promised this will be sorted in 5 day for which i will wait. but i have allready spoke to a law firm both local and ea and am planing to take this futher.and this is the problem for all the people using north america version in india.

MY PROBLEM: patch 2 error - stopping at 78%

DESCRIPTION : am from india , bought this game and wasnt able to play online for 3 weeks due to update problem...contacted ea but had no relevant support..
downloaded roster update - " na version " patch 1 and it installed well...
then got patch 2 under patch2\pc_dvd\ na version ----but it stops at 78% while updating gui.bg file

For the users of NA versions, the long wait for a fix is finally over. Follow the simple steps below:

Steps to solve the NA Patch 2 problem:
1. Download this modified ini_pc.big file - Download Link
2. Copy and paste the file into "C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\FIFA 08\data\cmn" directory. (Or anywhere else you install your FIFA08 game)
3. Install Patch 2.

*If you are using a NoDVD crack, please access your DVD main folder and copy the FIFA08.exe and replace it back to your FIFA08 main folder before installing Patch 2.

this helped me 100%...jus make sure you apply the patch 1(extract the zip file to the installed directory,then run "na" update from their) on freshly installed fifa , then copy and replace that ini_pc.big file to the directory mentioned and finally run update 2 of "na" version (also copy and replace this na update file 2 to installed directory before running it from there).
remember to apply the patches on fresh installation of fifa.

this is my first post in the forum and hope it help atleast one...aaggh!! i know how frustrating it was to hav an original game and not able to play it online.

I have problem trying to install second patch, it run till 78% and after that it stopped gave to me the same message”Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match”. I’ve read allots of topics and I’ve done all I’ve read but nothing helpful. I know my region, version and language, I downloaded the right patch – NA; I reinstalled 3 times fresh version of the game, I deleted all files and directories of the game, and I uninstalled it, the same message. I lost my patience. Any ideas will be welcome!

I know the answer for this. When the error pop-up then just slide it away and then look what file can't write. Then just go to your DVD and copy that file and paste it to your FIFA 08. And then run your patch. Well it worked for me. Hope i can help.

I tried to patch2 but i got the message box saying "old file not found...". then I realized that I didn't patch the first one. Maybe it is the same problem with others having this glitch.

after patching the first update it worked. to those who have this attempt failed, try it.
