Did you try the UK one?

if so, try Eastern or Central

I don't know which is the right version is for australia but they're only 8 megs so it's easy to download them and try them.

Maybe somebody with a copy from australia can confirm which version it is.

Just wondering, did anybody with a completely clean copy of FIFA with no workarounds at all get the NA patch to work?

Hi,

I have tried to donwload all patch 2 version. Non of them works, inclusive the NBA which should be the approriate one. Anybod got a solution? Please!!!
I just bought this game to play online since PES 2008 is full of bugs on online version.

I guess there is material to sue EA in case of unability to play online. If only we could all come together... The features announced when bought includes online game for at least 30 days (notice period). The licence fee incluse this feature. IF we cannot play at all online, this is outright lying.

For those struggling to figure out which version they have, and therefore which patch to apply, I'd recommend grabbing a copy of Rinaldo's File Master. Using that tool you can extract LOCALE.INI from CONFIG.DAT and look for the SKU_NAME parameter, which ought to tell you which version you are running (eg. my UK DVD version shows EUK for English UK). If you can't figure out what the code represents then post it here and I'm sure the collected conciousness can figure it out

For everyone who's having problems installing the NA patch caused by the halt at 78% for the .big file - have you installed anything else for FIFA 08 other than official patches?
The .big file is the database; when the patch installs it check the existing files against the initial install criteria and halts the install if it detects anything has changed or been updated.

So if you've installed something like a no-CD crack or some non-official patch/update not provided by EA you won't be able to install. If this is the case the best option is to perform a new install and then install Patch 1 then Patch 2. After this you should be able to install the other non-official EA patches if desired.

Hope this helps and apologies if you're still having problems with the issue.

I've tried all english speaking patches, I then re-installed, I then tried them all again. The only patch that didn't receive the 'Old file not found" error message was the UK one, yet when it seemed like installation was complete, I go to play online and it says I need to download the latest patch.

I live in South Africa. I have a 100% new and clean install of fifa08.
I followed advice to use file manager to check my installation language. It says eng and SKU ENA and second lang Mex

UK patch does not work so I assume ENA is eng north America. Roster patch (1st one) patched ok.
2nd patch stops, this is error:

data\cmn\ini_pc.big stopped at 78%

Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not match.

According to VancouverBlade,

those who have this problem have in all probability installed something else on top of fifa08. Like a no cd crack. Wow, no sarcasm intended. What about a mistake from EA, perhaps the first patch changed a file or two and the second one is complaining about that?

I got my patches from here (google search for fif08 patch)

Did you apply the first patch?

and did you load the squads after applying the patch? (From the main menu, go to Team Management -> Reset Squads ... and choose Updated Squads (or Updated Online Squads, something like that).

Nope, haven't installed the first patch.

I googled it but couldnt find the first patch, do you know of any sources?

Find the 'FIFA 08' folder in your Start > (All) Programs structure (or whatever the equivalent is in Vista) and click on 'Check for Updates'

Cheers Steve, the problem the first time was I downloaded the first patch thinking it was the second, when I clicked on the link to download patch 2 I was confused with the lack of detail in the site so I left it.

But another problem has arised, when I go to log in it tells me that my details are valid yet I haven't registered the game with EA Sports. I go to my account in EA and discover that I have registered it previously...

I keep trying to log in but the same happens, your help is much appreciated.

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Technical Support. I do apologise for the inconvenience that this issue caused.

When trying to patch FIFA 08 for PC, you will receive this error message if you are trying to patch the game with the incorrect language option. The only other reason you may get this error is if you have modified your FIFA08.exe file.

To correct this issue, you must completely uninstall FIFA 08. You may do this by performing one of the three options listed below:

Uninstalling via Control Panel

1. Click the Start button (Windows button for Windows Vista) on the Windows Taskbar.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs (Uninstall a program for Windows Vista).
4. Click FIFA 08 and click the Change/Remove button.

Uninstalling via Autorun

1. Click the Uninstall button in the Autorun menu.

Uninstalling Manually

Once you have uninstalled the game, re-install FIFA 08. This will make sure that your FIFA 08.exe file has not been modified.

Once you have downloaded the file, make sure to extract the .exe file found in the .zip file to your install directory for FIFA 08. (This should be C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\FIFA 08, by default.)

Run the .exe file from the install directory and your game should now be patched.

Wow you can copy and paste from the FAQs section, and you haven't been reading what has happened, I have successfully patched the game, there is another issue at hand.

And no, there was nothing wrong with my serial.

Don't pretend that there is no advantage in having multiple CD keys, you look more foolish than you already do.

And thanks to my help you resolved that damn patching problem, and you didn't even thank me for that!! Now you havent told me about your next problem. so how the hell do you expect me to help you, when I do not know what your next problem is?!

I did not mention that there is an advantage or disadvantage in multiple CD key. As a matter oh fact I mentioned only FIFA 08 as that is the problem I was going through with you in the technical support conversation.

Again you are accusing me. The FAQs section is written in general about the problems issuing fifa 08, it does not exactly match the tutorial I had sent you. And one more thing, I do not have to send a screenshot to prove myself being a tech support, I am very BUSY helping other people out and have no time to prove myself against bigger fools like you, grow UP ^^!

That is the EXACT copy of what is in the FAQs section.

Your pretty sad, trying to steal the $70 I paid for this CD key. You can't show us a screenshot of whatever proof that may provide because there is no such screenshot. Go away now or continue to make yourself look even more stupid.

GoLdEnFi6h is now banned from the forum.

The only people who work for EA here are the EAUK_ admins (who have an underscore in their usernames --nobody else can have an underscore in their names), and VancouverBlade. You can also check out the list of moderators under each forum if you scroll down where it says who's online now.

They also got "EAUK Staff" or "EA Staff" under their name instead of the usual user ranks.

Please don't share any personal information (including your name, or the serial number of games you own) with anybody.

Hi to everyone, have the UK version and kept getting the error messages you all refer to, when I tried to install Patch 2. Then I read elsewhere that you need to install your relevant Rosta patch first. Worked for me.

ok igot this game at the start of the season when it came out i played it it for a few months then my comp broke so had to restore system settings in doing so i lost everything well today i decided to stick it back on and play online so i go to game shadow to get the patches and i get to 17% and it says old file not found. and it stops of config.dat why is it doing this i used to be able to play im really angry someone help me oh im from Uk so its not just NA patches that dont work HELp ME

ok ignore my last comment instead google search roster patch and click on the bigeadownloads thenselect your country download the file on there then u should be able to get the patches easily enough have fun
