CEP 5.0 ruined my game

Last night I downloaded the Career Expansion Patch v5.0, so I could use more teams in my Manager Modes. I figured "Hey, lots of leagues, this'll be cool". I downloaded it, I didn't like it, so I uninstalled FIFA 08 to get rid of it. Keep in mind that uninstalling FIFA 08 is their recommended method of uninstalling the patch.

So today, I reinstall the game, and CEP is still there. I exited the game, deleted all of the CEP files and restarted the game. Same result. I uninstalled the game again, deleted the FIFA 08 directory in My Documents, and then reinstalled it. That left me with the FIFA 08 squads and ingame kits, but everything else was from the CEP - the menu flags, the background images, the minikits, everything except the added leagues.

I did a system restore to yesterday afternoon, before I had downloaded the patch. FIFA 08 kept giving me an error message when I tried to start it, so I repaired all of the game files. The game started again, but the CEP flags, images and minikits were still there. I deleted all the CEP files in the Recycle Bin, and then I deleted the FIFA 08 directory again. CEP was still there. I uninstalled the game - again - and then reinstalled it, deleted the the directory for a third time, and what do you know - CEP was still there.

Now, from the official CEP 5.0 FAQ page (see here) it says that the best way to get rid of the patch is to completely uninstall the game. I've done that three times already, and the thing still won't go away completely.

Can anyone help?

I have heard a lot of bad things about this patch, does anyone know how to get it working properly?

Apparently the head of the team who created this patch, OckHAM, is not on board for the newest version, CEP 6.0. Oh dear.

Maybe that's a good thing if it's been causing people's game to mess up?

I've never installed CEP over a live version of the game, but I would take the following approach to get rid of it altogether.

uninstall the game using Windows Add/Remove programs
delete the 'FIFA 08' folder from within the 'Program Files' structure (don't move to the recycle bin, delete by holding down the shift key when selecting the Delete context menu option or pressing the Del key)
delete the 'FIFA 08' folder from within your 'My Documents' structure (again delete, not recycle bin)
if you are feeling paranoid then use REGEDIT to remove all mention of 'FIFA 08' from the registry (WARNING take a backup of the registry first, it is quite possible to shag your Windows installation by (mis)using the registry editor)
reinstall the game from the original media

Hey the same thing happened to me, and now that i have installed the game like for the fourth time CEP still there ive read the posts above this one, but i have no idea on how to use the regedit, can anyone give me a hint of what do i need to do to get ride of this mess please

Dude, Steve is king! He helped me with my problem as well. Even though mine had no solution, haha. Xen, CEP is really buggy. I had it for 06 and it crashed my game twice in like the 3rd or 4th season. If you want something done? Do it with minor changes using programs and do it yourself! Good thing it's working again.
