i'm from south Africa, i think it is nordic version as when i go in i got uk english,dansk and svenska.. i downloaded the nordic update to try go online and i installed the first patch successfully,,.i tried to install the second one but it stops at 63% overall while processing Fifa08.exe with the error old file not found.. tell me wat to do!!

Do you think if enough NA users take legal action this would speed up a fix? I bought the game installed, tried to play online. Get confronted by the update requirement, download 3 updates of which only the first works. Tried the second one about 20 times and make it to 78% with some stupid ini_pc.big file that is more ellusive than Christiano Ronaldo. No luck... What happened to people and companies taking pride in their work? Had my doubts about buying fifa in the first place as for me pes is the new leader in footy games by miles

I seriously only bought this game to play online and I can't do it because of the problems with patch 2. Although mine errors out at 71%, but it's the same file error.

I've uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled countless times. But the thing just will not install patch 2.

I've scoured the web and found no more answers to this problem, this thread the best way possible to fix it (though it does not help me) and this fix is released by a kind fan of the game.

Is EA seriously not doing anything about it? Can they not release another patch 2 to fix the problem? I'm glad I didn't buy this at retail when it originally came out, but for $10 off their download site. I can't believe how crappy the service is and how they have just given up. The error was reported when the patch originally came out, and EA did nothing but sat on their stacks of money. Then they were kind enough to offer another patch to keep the game up to date without even acknowledging the problems with the second patch.
I know the powers that be are asking/forcing the developers/programmers to just move on to the next new money grabber but if there is anyone out there listening could you please just fix patch 2 so the game will actually work?

IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO FIX THIS?

What file does it stopped at when you received the error? Are you using the correct region of patches? There should be ways to fix this and i think i can help you if i'm free...gimme your WLM account

I have no idea what WLM is. Well I might know but it's not ringing a bell right now.

I installed from the DD download. I patched patch 1, then patch 2 and failed at 71% at the ini_pc.big file.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, did patch 1, replaced the ini_pc.big with the modified one and started patch 2. Still failed at the ini_pc.big file. I uninstalled, did a reg cleaning made sure all files and everything associated with EA was gone and reinstalled, same try as last time, patch 1, mod file, patch 2 and it again failed at ini_pc.big.

I'm using the NA DD install. I'm using the NA patch 1,2,3 from EA's website. I've even tried patches from different websites and they do the same thing. I've pulled the FIFA 08.exe from the install directory and replaced the installed one to see if that helps, nope.

I've tried renaming FIFA 08.exe to FIFA08.exe (or maybe the exact opposite) because that's the file it's actually looking for.

I pretty good with computers so it's not a simple mistake of me downloading the wrong patch or doing it in the wrong order, or into the wrong directory. I'm being over cautious, gonna try to do it in safe mode, but in all honesty it's the patch 2 that's the problem.

EDIT: Oh and thanks for any help offered. I really appreciate it.

Downloaded the edited file. Put it into C:\Program Files\EA Sports\FIFA 08\data\cmn as instructed. Yet, the problem patching patch 2 still persists. Any ideas what could have happened? And yes its clean, original version of Fifa08. It'll be a real pity cause I bought Fifa 08 when it came out, now that Fifa 09 is kinda 'approaching' and all I've done was to play an average offline Fifa 08. This is really disappointing, I expected a lot more from EA.

Edit: It is in the right region and it stops at 78%, same as before I changed the file. Thanks for any help

Okay guys and girls. I got it working.

First, thanks for trying.
Second, this is how I got it to work. I "got" the game from somewhere that will remain nameless. I "got" the Nordic version. I installed it, installed it off the DVD using my Serial Number. I installed the Nordic patches and it's working fine. So I'm using a legal serial with a copy of the game that should be filed under "other".

I'm trying to be on the up-and-up with EA but they're not helping. So I had to turn to the grey market for a copy of the game that will actually play.

Now it's onto fixing my new controller. I gotta get the left analog control to work. It's only using the stupid D-Pad right now and that's just annoying. This, I'm sure, will be a simple fix but will take some time.

Again, thanks to everyone who tried to help.

It's a good thing that you got it working now and maybe the ini_pc.big file i posted here only works for DVD and not DD? Since there are 2 separate patches for the DVD and DD installations as well.
