Goalkeeper Control
You can now take full control of your goalkeeper in one-on-one situations and during set-pieces. On keyboard just press Left Shift to take control of the keeper. If you are on PS2 or are using a gamepad just press R3.

Manager Mode
Play up to 15 seasons of manager mode on FIFA08. Different teams have different starting budgets according to their status (For example Arsenal will start with a much higher budget than Accrington). New in FIFA08 you can now schedule and play pre-season friendlies to hone your team’s skills before the season starts!

Manual Controls
New in FIFA08 are manual through-passes and crosses to enable players to gain a greater level of control over their game. Just watch the amount of power you put on the ball! These new options can be turned on and off depending on your preferences.

PC Minimum System Specs
• OS: Microsoft Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4, or Windows Vista
Note: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows NT 4.0 are not supported.
• CPU: 1.3 GHz Intel Pentium III (1.5 GHz for Windows Vista)
• RAM: 256 MB (512 MB for Windows Vista)
• 3.2 GB of free hard disk space
• DVD-ROM drive
• DirectX 9.0c-compatible 3D accelerated 64 MB video card or equivalent (Note: 16-bit color is not supported.)
o Officially supported video chipsets – See below
• Input: MS-compatible mouse, keyboard, or gamepad
o Officially supported controllers – See below
• DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher)
• 512 Kbps or greater (broadband connection) for online gameplay

Roster Update
There is a roster update already available for FIFA08 here that will update your roster up to the end of the transfer window.
To determine which version of the update you need either look on the game packaging, or in you registry:
Click START-RUN-REGEDIT
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA SPORTS\FIFA 08\
Your game version appears alongside the “Region” key (eg. Nordic) and the language alongside the “Language” key. For example, if your region says Nordic and language says English_UK, you would download the Nordic English patch.

Set Piece Curl
Putting curl on free kicks and corners involves pressing the direction keys (or left analogue stick) AFTER you have powered up the shot/cross. Left/Right adds sidespin to the left or right. Up adds top spin. Combinations of top and side spin can also be used.

This tutorial on scoring with direct free kicks should help. (Made for PC FIFA07, but also works for FIFA08 and is easily adaptable for a gamepad/PS2 controller)

o Note: When using digital-only gamepads, you should not change the Move Player setting to 'Analog', as this may cause undesirable effects in gameplay.
The use of a 360-degree, dual analog gamepad is highly recommended for full functionality.

• Performance issues may be experienced on some graphic cards when running FIFA08 on Windows Vista.

Tactics
Attacking:
Counter Attack:
Counter attacks start when the opposing team lose possession and are caught lacking in defence. The object of this tactic is to launch a swift and direct attack by moving the ball quickly to supporting team-mates who join the attack and pour forward in numbers. This tactic is most effective when you have a fast, skilful team at your disposal but be careful as one

Wing Play:
The Wing Play tactic is used when a team needs width in attack. Attackers will spread across the pitch and get some width in an effort to find open spaces to move the ball. The object is to stretch the defence and to create holes that can be penetrated by piercing passes or crosses. Look for the outside defenders and wingbacks to jump in and support with an

Box Overload:
The primary objective of this tactic is to call in as much support in the penalty box as possible. An overload system simply refers to any movement scheme that gives a numerical advantage in a particular part of the pitch. In this case the numerical advantage is called for in an attempt to flood the box when attacking.

3rd Man Release:
The concept behind this attacking tactic is to call a team-mate off the play (i.e. a third man other than the passer and receiver) to run in and support the play. The third man can then be used to become a pass target or decoy in the movement forward. So keep a look out for the third man making the darting run in this triangle tactic.

Defensive:
Offside Trap:
This is a fundamental defensive tactic that calls on defenders to intentionally move forward to try and trap an attacker who doesn't have the ball in an offside position. Be careful when using this tactic as all defenders have to be in sync and the timing has to be perfect!

Zonal:
Zonal defence allows defenders to stay between the ball and goal they are defending and are assigned a position relative to their team-mates. Think of it as marking space rather than a man. Each defender is responsible for an area rather than being shirt-tight to an attacker.

Pressing:
The object of this defensive tactic is to put immediate pressure on the attackers as soon as they are on the ball. Opposite of the zonal defence, this scheme requires defenders to stay in closing distance of the opposition and jump in to win the ball.
