hi all,

i've just bought the game on PC and first of all i'd like to warn anyone thinking of buying the game there are certain issues.

i have bought many pc games before with an odd little problem here and there and assumed, usually correctly, that they would be addressed in a patch.

from reading here it seems EA have not patched this game since launch (a year ago?) and there are many annoying bugs, that perhaps could have been fixed.

shame on you EA. this lack of support does get noticed.

i will now read forums to look for problems with your games before i buy, under the assumption that they may not ever be patched.

anyways, i'm really posting about a work around for one of these bugs.

i've played the game on hard as i find it suits a survival horror. unfortunately, as many other people, my setting has changed to medium, making the game more of a shooter and not as much fun to me. (i thought i was just getting much better at the game hehe)

i've only just realised the change, and don't have any suitable save games to return to.

to release a game without the option to change the difficulty setting mid-game and with a bug that changing your setting to medium, and then to not release a patch is infuriating to say the least.

but, is there a work round?

usually pc games have console commands for these kind of things but i can't seem to find any.

incidently, when it happened i had no other save games apart from the hard/difficult settings.

any ideas?

Here's my two cents taken from GT Forums. Once again THERE IS SPOILERS!

I'm a fan of Dead Space. I played it on PS3 when it came out, and even went out of my way to watch the animated movie. I think it's potentially the next top series in it's genre. I was intrigued when there would be a Wii version for the next installment, a prequel (similar to the movie, but before those events apparently).

I beat it tonight. I can't say I'm too impressed, even for a Wii game. Firstly the main story offers very little to the plot of Dead Space overall, considering how it ends (Lexine dies from being attacked by either Weller or McNeil; who have turned into necromorphs - although who knows if it was a dream or reality, like Dead Space's ending where possessed Nicole attacks Isaac) although it can be left up for debate on the ending. I still think in general, it was the story of a few members who actually fought through the events that occured on Aegis VII and the Ishimura, which they could've done on anyone. I found the comic-issues in the games bonus features area to reveal far more than what the actual game did, which I appreciated.

As for the gameplay. I like how Capcom worked the button layout for RE: Umbrella Chronicles - it was basic, accessable, and very compatable with the Wii Zapper (despite in the end I found using the Wii Zapper properly made things difficult for the Nunchuk actions). The same can't be said for DS: Extraction, though, I felt having to turn your Wii Remote 90 degrees to change for the alternate fire was annoying, and I barely used it in the end, which is a shame, because there were some good alt. fire for the weapons. I also didn't like using the analog stick as a means to change weapons - I thought if it were like RE:UC where you used it to tilt your view in each direction just a bit to search out items, and use other buttons to regulate weapons worked very well. Reloading was also interesting, maybe a bit to over elaborate for a on-rail shooter though. I also didn't like the fact that you could only take one monster at a time, it kind've eliminated the overwhelming feeling of an on-rails shooter IMO.

By now it may seem like I've only had negative things to say about the game, which is true, but it's only because these are the only faults I can find. The gameplay is good despite a few faults here and there, it's fun and offers alot of variety when it comes to weapons and enemies (although some enemies from the original Dead Space didn't show up - I wanted to see more brutes, and maybe that son of a lalalalala regenerator back). The story is decent IMO but it was non-the-less an addition, and did provide some intriguing persons like Lexine =) replay value isn't as great as other games, but you do get a sense of accomplishment by 5-star'ing the missions and going for the highscores on challenge courses. Graphics are great IMHO and it just goes to show that there very well could be a Dead Space TPS on the Wii some day, which I would very much look forward to.

Can't say it deserved the ratings it got from many reviewers (but alot of games these days don't) I'd give it a 7/10 for what it offers, and how it holds up against games like RE: Umbrella Chronicles and House of the Dead. Anyways what do you guys think? Agree, Disagree?
