Just when there's light at the end of the tunnel, extra hurdles seem to come up! Oh well - we're still in there with a chance as the bottom four or five are all pretty close.

Premier League (Match 32) - Everton v Crystal Palace

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), P.Castle (CD), F.Hall (CD), E.Boyce (RB), T.Soares (LM), D.Carter (CM), K.Nolan (CM), M.Piper (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Andrew Johnson is not fully fit, but we're desperate with Neil Shipperley out for 4 weeks. Wayne Andrews has been brought back up from the reserves to provide cover.
With both Danny Butterfield and Mark Hudson suspended at present, I've also brought Mikele Leigertwood onto the bench from the reserve side.
Times are tough!

After a scoreless first half in which chances were even, Kevin Campbell puts the home side ahead in the 74th minute. 1-0 Everton.
Andrew Johnson has run out of steam and so Wayne Andrews is reintroduced to the bigtime. Both Peter Castle and Fitz Hall have picked up yellow cards, so Hall comes off to be replaced by Mikele Leigertwood making his first class debut this season.

Wayne Andrews had a golden opportunity to equalise in the 89th minute, but man of the match Richard Wright pulled off a great save.
Final score 1-0 to Everton.

Premier League (Match 33) - Crystal Palace v Norwich City

A must win game, so the best side we can muster at present takes the field!

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), F.Hall (CD), P.Castle (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), T.Soares (LM), D.Carter (CM), K.Nolan (CM), M.Piper (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Norwich seemingly drive another nail into Palace's coffin when David Bentley scores in the 52nd minute. 1-0 Norwich City.

We're dead and buried as Peter Castle fails to clear the ball before it crosses the goal line. 2-0 Norwich!

Another sad moment which pretty much sums things up when Darren Carter is assisted from the field in the 80th minute. Jason Puncheon comes on at LM with Tom Soares moving into the central midfield.

And this shot from Andrew Johnson that hits the post tells it all really!

Final score 2-0 to Norwich City and I now feel our fate is sealed. A miracle is required, but not likely to happen!

Premier League (Match 34) - Blackburn Rovers v Crystal Palace

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), F.Hall (CD), P.Castle (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), J.Puncheon (LM), T.Soares (CM), K.Nolan (CM), M.Piper (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Ex Palace striker Ivan Kaviedes stuns us with an absolute pearler in the 13th minute. 1-0 Blackburn.

Jonathan Stead gets on the end of an Ivan Kaviedes free kick to give Blackburn Rovers a 2-0 lead.

The Stead-Kaviedes combination strikes again in the 80th minute to put Blackburn 3-0 up and that's the way it finished.

Second from bottom! I know you had some tough games, but you were near the top at the start of the season, weren't you!

Yeah - six losses in a row! It's all turned to custard really with injuries to key players. Chris Porter is struggling to foot it with the big boys and with Andrew Johnson not fully fit, we're toothless in attack.

Thanks for following my story and giving comments. Very encouraging!

Premier League (Match 35) - Crystal Palace v Liverpool

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), F.Hall (CD), P.Castle (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), J.Puncheon (LM), T.Soares (CM), K.Nolan (CM), M.Piper (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

An incredible first half! When you're down things just don't go your way. Danny Granville hit the woodwork twice from free kick opportunities while both Chris Porter and Kevin Nolan squandered one on one opportunities. When you're down, things seem to go like this! Then on the stroke of halftime, Harry Kewell strikes a dagger into our heart.

Justice in the 47th minute as Andrew Johnson slots home the rebound after Chris Porter's shot is brilliantly parried. 1-1

The normally reliable Fitz Hall was having a shocker and was replaced by Emmerson Boyce midway through the second spell.
No further goals were scored and the final score was 1-1.
A valuable point in our desperate battle to stay up!

I wish you luck in the remaining three games. Who knows you could collect 9 valuable points and you will in the end have 37 points. Eish, this also means that you need a lot of prayer time too because two teams that are out of relegation each has 34 and 35 points. Trying times for you there m8 but good luck.

Premier League (Match 36) - Newcastle United v Crystal Palace

Darren Carter returns from injury to bolster the midfield. Peter Castle is suspended, so Mark Hudson joins Fitz Hall in central defence. This is a must win game as we still have a slim chance of avoiding the drop.

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), F.Hall (CD), M.Hudson (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), T.Soares (LM), D.Carter (CM), K.Nolan (CM), M.Piper (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Patrick Kluivert puts the home side on top with this goal in the 66th minute. 1-0 Newcastle

And no matter how hard we tried, we just couldn't get an equaliser. the final score 1-0 to Newcastle and we've now hit rock bottom!

Thanks for your encouragement. Much appreciated.
However, survival was always going to be a big task and those injuries to key players at the business end of the season really derailed our efforts.
Life in the Championship division beckons!

I guess you will be continuing with the diary even though you will be playing in the champions league. It would really be nice if you do that and at the end of the season you bounce back to the premiership league.

All the best next season.

Premier League (Match 37) - Crystal Palace v Southampton

Our final home match of the season and we're desperate to give our fans a win.
Danny Butterfield has picked up an injury, so Emmerson Boyce comes into the lineup as RB.

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), F.Hall (CD), P.Castle (CD), E.Boyce (RB), T.Soares (LM), D.Carter (CM), K.Nolan (CM), M.Piper (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Fernandes breaks clear in the 8th minute to set us back early. 1-0 Southampton

Chris Porter levels in the 32nd minute as he tries to prove his worth to the home fans. 1-1

This was a game which we deserved to win as we outplayed Southampton right through the second half, but man of the match Anti Niemi salvaged the draw with a string of brilliant saves including this one.

Final score 1-1

Premier League (Match 38 ) - Charlton Athletic v Crystal Palace

What a match to finish the season - the BIG local derby and our chance to avenge our loss at home to Athletic earlier in the season!
Neil Shipperley has returned from injury to partner Andrew Johnson up front. Chris Porter will drop to the bench.

R.Hoult (GK), D.Granville (LB), F.Hall (CD), P.Castle (CD), E.Boyce (RB), T.Soares (LM), D.Carter (CD), K.Nolan (CM), A.Lennon (RM), N.Shipperley (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Joy for the long suffering Palace diehards as Kevin Nolan runs onto a Danny Granville free kick and caresses the ball home. 1-0 Palace in the 22nd minute!

Danny Murphy levels it up for Charlton in the 55th minute. 1-1

Kevin Nolan had been yellowcarded in the first spell and was taken off midway through the second spell as a precaution. Jason Puncheon came as LM with Tom Soares taking Nolan's berth in the central midfield.
The game was a brutal affair as you'd expect a local derby to be. Both sides had chances, but there was no further scoring.

Final score 1-1

And we're off to enjoy a season of football in the Championship division!
I do have high hopes that this young, but talent laden Palace side will be back in the big time soon though.

19 year old backup keeper Lance Cronin wanted to dissolve his contract.
I tried to convince him to stay, but his morale had been low for some time and his excessive contract demands were not acceptable to the Board.
I was disappointed to see him go as he had shown great promise in the handful of matches that he played.
Fortunately we have 18 year old Joe Hart in our reserve side and he should have a bright future. I have exercised the 1 year extension option to Russell Hoult's contract in the meantime.

Danny Granville and Fitz Hall are in the last year of their contracts. Negotiations are underway to keep them at the club.
Now that we've dropped into the Championship division, retaining quality players is a must in order to mount a promotion charge and to have a solid squad should we get back into the Premier League.

Both Danny Granville and Fitz Hall have extended their contracts with us which is good news.

RC Lens have made an 8 million pound offer for Sandhor Tongelle who has been languishing in the reserves since the "English players only" policy came into force.
If he goes, our 5 million pound financial deficit will be wiped out and I'll be able to look at one or two new faces.

Rumours continue to abound about other clubs showing an interest in central midfielder Ben Watson, but he's off limits as far as I'm concerned!

Friendly - C.Skopje v Crystal Palace

R.Hoult (GK), M.Cranie (LB), F.Hall (CD), M.Hudson (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), J.Puncheon (LM), B.Watson (CM), D.Carter (CM), A.Lennon (RM), N.Shipperley (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Andrew Johnson opens the scoring in the 15th minute. 1-0 Crystal Palace

Captain Neil Shipperley joins in the scoring action. Crystal Palace 2-0 up after 20 minutes.

Shipperley again in the 25th minute! 3-0 Palace

Fitz Hall and Martin Cranie both picked up yellow cards in the first half and were substituted by Danny Granville and Emmerson Boyce at halftime.

Darren Carter heads in to make it 4-0 Crystal Palace in the 75th minute.

Final score: C.Skopje 0-4 Crystal Palace

Sandor Tonghelle agreed terms with RC Lens and off he went, our chairman rubbing his hands in glee with the sudden cash boost to the club's coffers.
I immediately ploughed a little money into improving the training facilities to Level 4.

We're on the hunt for an extra striker as insurance against the difficulties that faced us at the business end of last season.
We were unsuccessful in bringing Jermaine Palmer from Stoke City last season and he has again been approached. However I'm not hopeful of securing his services unless Stoke are prepared to accept a lower price than they're initially asking. Will keep you posted.

A little tougher opposition in our next friendly.

Friendly - Liberec v Crystal Palace

R.Hoult (GK), M.Cranie (LB), P.Castle (CD), M.Hudson (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), J.Puncheon (LM), T.Soares (CM), B.Watson (CM), M.Piper (RM), N.Shipperley (ST), C.Porter (ST)

An own goal sees the hosts fall behind in the 18th minute. 1-0 Palace

A couple of brilliant saves from Russell Hoult maintained our lead until halftime.
Liberec were creating their fair share of chances and almost equalised in the 61st minute when Formanov clipped the wrong side of the post.

Chris Porter wraps up an uninspiring 2-0 victory with a 'proper' goal in the dying miutes.

Agreed! Mind you, that injury crisis at the business end of last season took out our strike force badly, so it was no surprise that we struggled the way we did.

Friendly - Newtownards v Crystal Palace

R.Hoult (GK), M.Cranie (LB), P.Castle (CD), F.Hall (CD), D.Butterfield (RB), J.Puncheon (LM), D.Carter (CM), K.Nolan (CM), A.Lennon (RM), C.Porter (ST), A.Johnson (ST)

Darren Carter slammed a penalty straight at the keeper in the 6th minute, but made amends two minutes later, slotting home after a goalmouth scramble. 1-0 Palace

Andrew Johnson heads home in the 33rd minute to put Palace 2-0 ahead.

Andrew Johnson with another header just 5 minutes later! 3-0 Palace

Chris Porter heads against the post in the 90th minute.

Final score 3-0 Crystal Palace
