You want feedback? Okay, here it is with both barrels:

I have just wasted my money.

As a _PC_ gamer, I DO NOT LIKE being treated as a console gamer. I buy FPS games on the PC for a _reason_. I want to be able to edit my keys, use multi-button mice to set up my controls the way _I_ like it, not how some developer _thinks_ I should.

Seriously, I was looking forward to this game and you've totally ruined it for me by lazily porting (controls and everything) the console version.

If you think I'm being harsh then you really have no idea what makes a FPS game. The BASIC rule is simple - get the controls right. With Dead Space you have totally failed, it feels awful to play on a PC, WHY would you want match the PC version with the console version???????? They are TOTALLY different concepts.

Clueless, absolutely clueless. I only wish I could get my money back.

If it's any consolation, Far Cry 2 is another made for console game, I am so disappointed in both of these games.

Never again will I buy a game without downloading a demo first, never I tell you, never.

Bought it at D2D - all i get is a black screen with sounds.
Updated drivers - does not run.
Googling for a workaround - so much fun!
Fiddling around in config files now.

Constructive Feedback:

Fire your QA Team, if there is any for the PC.

Maybe Epic A** can sell their half finished code to some serious developer, Instead of unloading onto the user.
Seriously, every fricking game I bought form this locust enriching nest is broken out of the box and requires action from the user to make it "run".
You sell cars with flat tires and missing screws IKEA-STYLE. thx

I've hardly begun playing it, but I'm really surprised how effective this game is in scaring me! I must have seen 20 or so gameplay videos, but almost all of the scare moments (even the ones I recognized from the videos) had me jumping. Sometimes only a sparking wire can set me off!

I don't have a problem with the PC controls, although I can see why some people are complaining about it. If you guys do decide on changing it, make it customizable ... I'm happy with 'em as it is.

Thank you for this great sci-fi horror story!

Let's see ... i'm only at chapter 4-5 cause of the painful controls you've deside to give to pc gamers locking out all aspcets or hope using the numpad or the arrow keys. I could us the 360 pad for it but then i would be playing it like all cosnole gamers and totally deestroying my love for wanting the keybroad and mouse.

Having said that... The game looks nice , and the atmosphere is fantasic and there's some nice touches like the reduced sound in space. How ever i do feel so far the game is abit shallow only taking 5-6 rounds to drop a alien zombie and upgrading i 've found alot of nodes and getting cash for them is pretty easy making upgrading a thing you can or can pass to do . I was expecting to struggle to find these node's to make it even more challaging and that you would have to plan carefully on what you upgrade.

But this is on normal mode so far i'm hoping hard will give me alot more challage and death and it proablly will with the controls I'm stuck with. Please unlocked them so i can customize the key's abit and not suffer horror cramp in my hands having to strench my fingers all over the place, and the same with the mouse buttons my 6 button mouse is just going to waste T_T.

Also wrapping it up melee is very sluggets and should be avoid at all costs, there are a few tearing issues with grahpices and the sluggish mouse but i have been working around them. And the gore and realisim of the way things die is very nicely done and i have even found a few moments int he game with the .... is that and O.o ... wow... now thats pretty. But i would like to add that i do tend to get body parts flying around or being stuck between my legs after a large battle and the huge pile of bodies i want to serch through to find any drops.

Apart form that i'm a happy chappy , Yes my throughs are all over the place but thats just me XD.

((P.S. Please please please Unlokc the controls XD))

Well... can't really send any constructive feedback 'cause I can't play the game. And why is that? Well the mouse keeps pulling up and left so playing the game is nearly impossible. Please fix this issue and I promise to give some great feedback.

Oh I managed to get Isaac in that place where you first encounter necromorphs. Scared a hell out of me. But fighting back the mouse caused me migren and nausea so that wasn't necessary funny, but yeah... Just fix the mouse issue and I'm happy.

Hello there!

I totally feel with 'Huffshee', word by word.

I have spent a lot of money to set up a powerfull mashine to play action games / shooters / action RPGs with high resulution and maximum details. So I am looking to config the game as I like to and by the way: 3D shooters are made to play with mouse and keys! They came from the PC-area and they belong to it. Thats the best way to play such games, isn't it?! )

Well the game is programmed well. I had no crashes, not even one time! Fantastic!
The graphic engine is well made, everything looks completely rounded. Good work so far!
But: Please fix the mouse and keys issues! Then it would be perfect and you will make a lot of (PC) gamers lucky!!

Finally, from my point it was a good investation. I like the game play and the atmosphere! As I like the game genre like system shock 2, outcast and so one.. Make more of them!

best regards,
Marc

You want feedback? Here it comes. It's really simple tbh : Give me MORE Dead Space!!!! I just finished this on the PC with mouse and Keyboard and i sesriously do not understand all the whinning and moaning. It plays perfectly fine with the mouse/KB. No mouselag no nothing, and yes Vsync is turned on. About the game, it's fantastic, i loved every minute of it and i actually jumped off my chair a couple of times. The story is a bit anti-climatic but the whole game experience totally makes up for it. Regarding playability, it runs great. On my rig i have no slowdowns, fast loading time, no crashes, no lockups, no black screens everything just works perfectly. On a side note, i hate activating games online, but meh i know it's one off the things neccesary to create an slowback to piracy. Overall, this game gets an well deserved 9/10! Played this on a : Intel q6600 Geforce 9800GTX SB audigy X-FI gamer 4 Gig ram Vista 64 bit. Logitech G5 gamer mouse All updated with the latest drivers. Played on the reolution : 1680x1050 Vsync on 60 HZ. *edit* What's up with the automaticly removing all enters? nou my text is fubard, tried editing it a couple off times but it puts it back all the time to one giant clumb, if an mod vould please enter the Enters that would be nice*

Before the release of the xbox 360 version I hadnt paid much attention to the title, but after seeing a few movies of the gameplay I thought i'd give it a go. The game is class, those guys who made it are a great team! the quality of the game is like WOW. this makes a lot of games look stupid. I found myself jumping out of my skin at times, the attention to detail shows. i often found myself looking around looking at all the detail put in to the game, the smoke effects the liquids, loved the vacum scenes.
The maps are well laid out. I was hooked from the minute i started playing. the only thing wrong was when under attacked and changing weapons. i found myself panicing trying to get the next weapon.

No framerate problems either.......

totally awesome game, and i havent finished it yet.

they better bring out nu 2 cos i want that as well.

Well done guys your raised the bar.

and the sound guy deserves a raise.

Make the game run and I will give feedback It seems to have all elements to be a classic. Mass Effect is one keeper too, so I expect Dead Space will be similar gem..when I get it to even start up

PC Gamer said Deadspace was more horrifying than terrifying, what with the yucky necromorphs and yuckier things you have to do to them to take them out. No problems there - in fact, great, I love it!

I also appreciate that it's not totally brainless hack and slay - problem-solving on each level, including tactical problem solving, though I think the 'B' blue line makes route-finding a bit *too* easy. If people are getting lost because they're panicking or just because the Ishimura is just a huge, unfamiliar ship, all the more realistic and all the more cachet to experienced players that do know their way around.

SPOILER: My biggest gripe so far--why I actually contributed to this forum for the first time (and, forgive me, initiated a new thread ranting about it)--is the game of Asteroids that EA sneaked into the end of level 4 or "this effing, crop-dusting kiddies game" as I took to calling it after being wiped the 12th time. I particularly (don't!) appreciate Hammond's "I'll be done in a minute" and how this torture actually stretches out a good three or more. Other than the hand-eye co-ordination one expected from the original line-frame version it is totally brainless and, more to the point, totally impossible even on an Easy setting, blocking progress to the rest of the game as there is no way round it As you can appreciate, I am finding this intensely frustrating and time-wasting, to the point of considering uninstalling and binning an otherwise excellent game.

BTW, odd to find EA hates PC users as much as Bethesda. The WSAD interface is physically painful, esp. when you have to stretch extra left-hand digits across the keyboard to run, move about using kinesis, etc.

I've been playing this on xbox 360 and for me its simply game of the year. I love the production values, the atmosphere, story, graphics and the sound is stunning. Of course the gameplay is top drawer too. I've seen so many positive comments on other forums that I use... So thanks, its a top game and I'm loving it.

The only negative comment I can think of is I don't like paid for downloadable content for in game items. The Scorpion suit is 200 MS points. Thats all & good luck.

Graphics in Dead Space are not really better than Doom3 (try to start up Doom3 and see for yourself, I am not joking here), actually my best guess is the Doom3 had more polygons displayed than Dead Space manages - and Doom3 was released more than 4 years ago.

Controls have been covered - it clearly shows that Dead Space for the PC lacked competent QA before release. WASD locked keyboard configs simply show that the developers have absolutely no clue about managing PC versions - since a lot of money are at stake here, this is extremely unfortunate for EA. My guess is that a lot of PC gamers will not be guinea pigs and buy Dead Space due to the control issues and simply will download a pirated version. If I had not bought a wireless xbox controller for Windows, Dead Space would have been a literally dead for me too...

Textures are also bad - I guess many gamers do not recall what great textures on the PC should look like - gamers loved Bioshock, even though the PC version had extremely low res textures. Maybe I am just getting too old - but the console-like texture quality in Dead Space does not make me happy - and the low poly models look awful too. Crysis is way ahead here, compared to Crysis, Dead Space looks like a game from 2002 - and even the lighting seems worse than in F. E. A. R. from 2005, sorry.

In all, I feel that Dead Space lacks a lot of polish - released in 2003 this game would have been awesome even with the bad controls, today I fail to see why any reviewer on the PC would pass a score beyond 70 to 80 percent in overall verdict for this title.

Okay, so I played the game on a couple of friends PC's. As some probably know personally i'm against buying games with DRM including dead space, from what I played it seems a decent game, its just a pity about the protection.

That aside what I played I noticed the controls as some said about the slow mouse controls and stuff. One of the PCs I played on had the issue even with vsync off it still suffered it was like glue. The other however was much better it was more fluid for moving around but pulling up gun (right mouse) it was far too tight, it would be nice if there was a way to alter the sensitivity independantly for movement and for iron sights. I can see what they devs were trying to aim for i.e greater accuracy, slower pacing to increase tension, but at times it feels too slow.

Also "punching" things seems abit off, along with stomping enemies. Corpses on the floor/boxes/etc all seem fine to stomp but "living" enemies are hell to stomp effectivly.

I'm not sure I agree with runesr2 about textures even about the bioshock stuff which had better textures than the 360 version (i'd seen both in action, also seen the burn of the DRM).

Anyway from what I saw they looked very good bar a couple of places which looked like they were hit with an ugly low res stick and looked out of place, i'll have to try get back to my friends place to get exact locations where they looked a bit weak. The lighting/smokey atmosphere/etc looked very nice and worked pretty well, normally smokey stuff still causes issues for most PC's these days. I'm not sure if the PC's I played on had AA enabled (I didnt see anything under the options) but the jaggies where practically none existant.

The lack of PC DLC Is a disappointment it always is regardless the game and the console versions get exclusives but the PC gets squat. But saying that I think if EA charged for it no PC gamer would go near it, perhaps throw it in in a patch for free more of an incentive to get people playing the PC version? Aside from the controls it seems pretty well optimised. Far better than some other attempts of a port (i.e mercs2).

Actual gameplay "scary" wise, I played the start bit on one (the one with bad mouse) and I think it was chapter 3 on the other (FYI both PC's where practically same specs too which was odd), some things just seem a bit too predictable to whats going to happen. Also there were cases where the tense music was drawn out a bit too much, I was expecting more zombies but nope the music kept on trying to build suspense for nothing.

Maybe its because i've played practically every other survival horror game but saying that even the resident evil remake on gamecube had new suprises. i.e that "dog" corridor, on the PS version the dogs jumped on your first or 2nd run through? the gamecube one was far later like your 8th run through by then it lured you into a false sense of security.

Overall from what I saw it looked like it deserved the 86% PC gamer give it, disappointing about the DRM.

Definatly agree there, but that was before I could do it and once you pass it ...the relief so satisfying and it's not to far of when he says "ill be done in a minute" altho it feels forever.

I'd say stick at it cause the chapter's just get better and better (if anyone has seen the obsiden suit in action esp when you get the array working the lighting that bounces of it, is stunning!!

Thumbs up to the guys that made it, it truly is a piece of art.

I've played through the first chapter (and most of the second) on the PC version and am very impressed (and scared!) so far. Some people are complaining about clunky controls but I quite like it: it gives a feeling of rushed combat and clumsyness which is what I would expect of an engineer in a hostile combat situation (you can keep your Gordon Freemans who seem to be better than elite soldiers)! Personally I think the graphics are amazing, slightly better than Gears of War.

I'm very glad that this game isn't following Crysis' trend of requiring a stupidly powerful computer to look nice. On my setup (more about it below) I'm getting a constant 30fps at 2560x1600 with everything on high. The hologram method of relaying information to the player is novel and wonderful to look at.

However I have one gripe and one problem:

Gripe: I don't like the aiming method with the mouse, specifically the way the movement isn't linear. I would like to see an option in the control menu that allows you to choose between linear and exponential mouse aiming.

Problem: The game is stable for most of the first chapter but towards the end and into the second chapter the game keeps crashing with a 'C++ runtime error' message. It usually occurs when accessing a holographic display e.g. inventory or shop. My system is as follows (and yes I do have the latest updates):

Dell 720H2C
32bit Vista Ultimate
QX6850
4GB RAM (though obviously not all in use)
2x 8800 GTX (SLI)
Ageia Phyx card
X-Fi soundcard
2x RAID0 500GB hard drives

Hi guys

Well i like the other pc gamers was ****ed that i could not use my mouse keys/arrow keys to play this but i did after a chapter or two get use to the controls.

I have a powerful machine and played this on the highest resolution and graphics no crashes or black screens no glitchs or any interruption in game play due to loss.

Scary,Griping, edge of your seat stuff and i am 27 years old shame about the ending but i did really enjoy the game although it only took me 12 hours to complete.

Surley after that ending their has to be a Dead Space two coming out????
If not that sucks but it was well worth the money i paid and would highly recermend it to anyone who has a pair of balls for these sorts of games.

Game play 8/10
Controls 6/10 (only because you cant use your own)
Happyness level 8/10

You guys want me to test any games for you send me a pm and we can speak.

Very happy and content young man, now i go a bed and wait for far cry 2 to be delivered.

XP Pro
QX6850
4GB RAM
2x 8800 GT (SLI)
Ageia Phyx card
X-Fi soundcard
2x RAID0 500GB hard drives

Havent played yet because of the mouse lag. But I can happily tell that I found out a way to get the lag completely off. Just take the full screen mode off, that did the trick atleast for me.

Maybe I should be careful also to add some positive aspects, since I am not on a crusade against Dead Space - not at all - I actually like the 3rd person viewpoint and the holographic nature of the inventory, maps etc. The xbox controller working perfectly in Dead Space for Windows is also great.

Thus my objective here is simply to show that many recent console games ported to PC fail greatly in using the PC potential - and this is an evil downward spiral: Games get developed for consoles and ported badly to meet PC potential - thus more PC owners may not want to pay for lackluster ports and then pirate software, and then the quality for PC games gets even lower, because developers put less and less effort into the pc version.

Just to illustrate - this is how Doom3 looked in 2004 - do you still think that Dead Space is better graphically and more scary?:

Anmeldelse af Doom3 - HardwareTidende

And this is F. E. A. R. in 2005 - check out the lighting:

Anmeldelse af PC-spillet F. E. A. R. - HardwareTidende

And for those who have forgotten the glory of real "photorealistic high-res" textures in PC games, try to compare Gothic 3 wood textures to similar textures in Bioshock:

nV News Forums - View Single Post - Several reasons to believe Bioshock has been "console-ised" (PC tweaks)

I guess we can blame all the pirates for this unfortunate situation - without pirates I am sure that Dead Space would have been developed primarily for the PC audience, who have the hardware to make this game shine. But still there is a lot of money at stake for EA - and by producing bad PC controls and by not using the PC graphics potential etc. I do believe that EA is just strengthening the downward PC games spiral with Dead Space - and that is truly sad.

Also - Dead Space has not really scared me - it reminds me a lot of Doom3 and F. E. A. R. - but Aliens vs. predator 2 from 2001 (playing as a marine) that was a truly scary game :-)

Default fix controls for this awesome game!

im a pc player, so by now you know the drill: fix the controls, or better let me fix them by allowing me to fully customize them using my whole keyboard and all of my mouse keys!!!

otherwise, i love your game. the feel is great, the mix of shooter and rpg is nice and graphics and sounds are one of the best! i dare saying your on par with titles like hl1&2 and thats not happening often!

so cheers and fix those controls, fix them soon and fix them for good!
