Ejecting from VTOL

How do you eject from the VTOL before it explodes. I am stuck in Crysis flying a VTOL but cannot manoeuvre quickly enough to shoot down the aliens. I try to eject before blowibng up but can't. Any ideas?

you mustn't eject from the vtol, but kill them all
