Crysis: Warhead returns to desktop First Mission

I recently bought Crysis Maximum Edition after enjoying the original Crysis and losing the disc in the move to university. So I decided I'd play Warhead first, I installed it and booted it up. Got to the main menu, made myself a profile, all was well.

Started a new game and got to the loading screen, 100% loaded Press Any Key to Continue. So I pressed a key...

The game then completely disappeared, exited me to the desktop, no error message, no warning at all.

I've updated my drivers to the newest released version. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the game, pass all the required specs for the game to run as I already knew when buying the game.

I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot.

What's your graphics card, processor and how much RAM you've got?
Because I never have this problem, infact never had it.

Only a graphics card that aint supported by the game will crash like that!!!

Started it up again just before to have one last go at "pressing any key to continue" and it has miraculously started working through no intervention of my own.

Very, very interesting!
It could be that a background program or the taskbar icons are actually interrupting the game itself.

I have the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 OC graphics card and I never have or had problems like that with any of the games.

Maybe check out the problems and solutions in your control panel to see from what reason did the game crash?
Does it happen rarely or very frequently?
Observe when exactly you do and when you don't, then yuo can find the cure of the problem!

l would say the hard drive just got a bit busy from install then straight into the game.

You going to regret going to ATI, so far l had problems from 8.10 to 9.7 drivers and my cards are not that old either.

What are the problems that you experience?
I have had it for over a month so far and its not caused me a single problem, playing Crysis Warhead and Wars online and Assassins Creed, Left 4 Dead, Tomb Raider Underworld, Alone in the Dark, Call of Duty 4 (playing that almost everyday for a few hours).

Not a single problem in any of these games.
And I won't regret. There is a difference between me paying £189.99 for the HD 4890 OC card with an Nvidia GTX 285 that costs £300+.

If you have upgraded from an Nvidia card to an ATI, then yes you may have problems. You gotto properly clean the Nvidia drivers before hand using driverspeeper and then shut your PC down, remove the old Nvidia card and put the new ATI card, then there won't be any problems.
If you avoid all these barriers I see no reason to trigger into any kind of problems.

I am very impressed, last month I upgraded from a rubbish Nvidia 8600GT that truly sucked to this.

And look this guy is using Nvidia XFX 8800 GTS see he is the one having problems, how do you explain that?!

Bad screen flicker caused by the display driver (l sent feedback twice about it) and l can longer update ccc without using the latest display driver, l built my comp around ATI set for the processor, l'm running my comp in crossfire with two HD2900 XT 512 mb which cost alot when they came out a crossfire motherboard and crossfire memory, it can handle crysis on high without being overclocked either which is nice.

See vid 8.10 driver, l,m going to make vid of the 9.7 which even bad and send it to them.

I was going to reserve my judgements about the bad screen flicker. But honestly speaking on mine even when I updated to the latest ATI drivers I do not experience any flicker at all. Previous 19 inch LCD monitor, no flicker, and this one nope.

I received yesterday my new 24 inch Samsung T240 monitor, its stunning! I played all games including Crysis Warhead on 1920x1200 resolution for the first time in my life and I didn't see any screen flickering at all. Or any tearing whatsoever.

It is possible that the ATI drivers do not work properly with your HD2900 XT 512. Because when I use it with my ATI 4890 OC edition GPU I do not experience any of that at all.

Have you tried to use V-Sync and see whether that eliminates the screen flicker?
Another possibility could be that your monitor is faulty. Have you tried connecting your PC with another monitor to see for yourself?

I am sure if you look logically, if ATI was really that problematic with its screen flickering, how do they survive as a company? Surely if this was a common issue then every person with ATI GPUs will return and refund their money back if this was the case.

So sure there must be either something wrong with your GPU or your monitor.

l worked it out, it was when l ran in crossfire l get the flicker turn it off gone, l thinking whats the point having a second card if l could use only one.

My screen is alright with 8.9 or earlier, but if l use latest drivers bam flicker, annoying thing is from 8.10 to 9.7 they improved crysis performance.

Now when l use 9.7 l get the "atikmdag display driver stopped responding", when playing warhead, l haven't tested other games because l got fed up and went back to 8.9, even a few people using the 4000 series suffer with the same atikmdag error*.

You must be one of the lucky ones with your card.

Ati do make good cards but their drivers compared to Nvidia are lacking.
