Exactly my thoughts! But apparently the game reads your PC as a different computer because of the change in hardware.

LOL its not a big hardware change. Just removing your tower cap and putting a new card in a slot, you call that a big change??? It took me only 3 minutes to install a graphics card on my PC

Your definition of big is different from EA's, if it was up to EA we'd all be playing on their own console which would be 100% exclusive. The impact a new graphics card has on a system can be huge not just performance wise and especially if you swap brands. Updating your BIOS fries an activation, securom thinks you put a new motherboard in your PC.

You can put together a whole new PC in about 10 minutes, whats your point?

I know its not a big hardware change on our side. But, basically this:

Putting in a new graphics card means a LOT changes on the OS. The fact that its very easy to do means absolutely nothing. Depending on what it is like i said it can be classed as a new pc by the activation software.

That's why i'm so wary of this stuff. You can use up activations over the smallest things. Formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows takes no effort on your part at all. It'll still use up an activation

Really if they are going to go for the whole switching out components is an activation thing then they should have it solely based on the motherboard model and nothing else. The majority of your market is gamers and the majority of serious gamers make and upgrade their own rigs regularly. I wonder if when EA did their survey on how many gamers used their games on X machine they took this into account. With the speed that hardware becomes insufficient for getting the most out of your games nowadays; upgrades are frequent and I have no intentions of staving off a RAM purchase for an EA game, I would rather miss out on the game.

BIOS updates still cost an activation, according to securom its a new mobo.

There has to be a way around 5 installs.
Wat if u make a backup off steam does that count?
Wat about using securom emulation.
Wat about using yasu and mini-image/fixed exe?

Use a crack (fixed exe) off a pirate copy, seriously thats the only way around it.

Steam is infested with the DRM cancer like the retail version.
Securom emulation is what some fixed exes use.
YASU is an anti black listing tool for virtual drives.
Mini image only works when you need the dvd/cd.

And EA expect you to call them and pay through the nose for it. EA Support isn't the brightest out there, it won't be a quick job.

So EA wont give people more activations when they need them?? These 5 activations will get used up eventually by just about everyone who brought the game, me included, is EA basically going to tell people to go out and buy another copy?

I purchased Warhead from a local blockbusters store, notice EA that I said purchased & not rented!!

Ok. Throwing in the towel i'm afraid. After hearing from my brother how good it was I decided screw the DRM, i'm buying it anyway.

Sorry for letting the side down guys, but I really want to play it and dont agree with piracy.

Tried new graphics drivers? Go for the 180.43's since you are on a 2 series card. Download driver sweeper from nVIDIA Geforce 280 260 9800 9600 8800 8600 GT GTX AMD ATI Radeon HD 4850 4870 X2 - Guru of 3D: PC Hardware Reviews and keep it handy.

Uninstall the drivers through add and remove,
reboot to safe mode run driver sweeper with nvidia,
reboot to windows as normal when it finishes
Install new 180.43's, reboot.

Just a quick update: EA has released de-authorisation tools for every game made after May 2008 (including Crysis Warhead). So we can now de-authorise our game and free up our activations.

This is a step in the right direction EA. Now all u gotta do is patch the DRM out of the game completely like what they did with Bioshock and it'll be perfect haha!
