Nothing really exciting about it. 9600GT is the same technology as the 8800GT & GTS 512, with a bit smaller die size (less production cost & less performance). The reason the first are called "8" and the later "9" is only known by NVIDIAs marketing department. And all these cards are nearly the same technology as the Q4 2006 8800GTX with the advantage of TSMC 65nm technology and just playing with the die size.
Speaking about the largest single-generation performance jump in the Company's history, as it says, I seriously dought it'll come even close to the NV35 --> NV40 jump (or NV36 --> NV43 for mainstream)

They needed a fast WHQL driver for the 9600GT lanch. Probably they had no time to certify it for all the products, but it'll be fine, at least for the GeForce 8 series due to design similarities. Works OK with my card.

9800GTX looks like a dud - 9800GTX 3Dmark06 score here - Expreview.com
GX2 might be a decent performer though if they release decent drivers at launch |
