Default Leaked Nvidia beta gave +5 more FPS

I've just benched the leaked 171.16 betas using the Crysis benchmark utility and I got 5 extra FPS! My settings were all on high apart from Textures, object quality and shaders which were on medium, I also had 2xAA. Normally I'd get an 'average' of 33fps on the gpu benchmark. This new beta gave me an average of 38.5fps!
You can link through here: NVIDIA Forums -> Forceware 171.16 Vista 32 and XP 32 is out! (XP is there too but not sure if they're giving the same improvement.
I've also read that a further driver, 173.61, gives even better results but as of yet no link has been given or they've not been leaked yet. The article is here: VR-Zone : Technology Beats - NVIDIA Forceware Vista Beta Drivers Preview

BalloonHead... I did some checking for you and this site was recommended, if you go here:
LaptopVideo2Go & NVIDIA Related News You'll find the 171.16 for a laptop. As far as I'm aware Graphic drivers don't have to come from Dell as long as the drivers been tweaked for laptops you should be ok. Keep this site in your favourites as its one of the better ones for laptop drivers.
Here is a more direct link to the driver, just scroll down and click on where it says driver:v171.16 Vista 32bit | - nVision
I've been using these drivers to play other games and have found no problems as of yet, I just had to check with them being betas. As soon as I find or hear about the link for the 173s I'll let you know.

Ok I think I've sorted it... It seems to use these drivers you have to replace whats called the 'inf' with one thats been modified. You'll notice on the download page above that there's a link for the driver and then next to it in green letters is the inf link. Next to that is a link to a quick guide to get you through the install process. I did copy a small section and I'll paste it here:

Basically it's a 3-step process:
1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
3. Install & reboot.

When you open a driver thread, you will see several links like
Driver and
Modded INF, which are all you need to install the driver you want. First click Driver link to download the related driver which comes WITHOUT the needed INF file.

For example, if you choose 84.25 driver to install, driver file will be 8425.exe and when extracted it should create another folder named 8425.

Next step is getting the Modded INF and replacing the old one. Click on the Modded INF link to download the file. If file opens instead of downloading go back, right click the link and choose 'Save target as...' or 'Save link as' options. Now it should ask where to download the file. Select the 8425 folder. If you did it right, there should be a file replacement confirmation dialogue. Replace the file and you are now ready to install the driver.

Hopefully this will allow you to use the drivers. Let me know how you get on..Good luck

Just to add, I did try the links and they work.. So just download the driver, extract it to a folder. Then download the inf and use that to replace the one in the driver (which your going to have to find). You should then be able to install the driver in the normal way.

yeah, it gives on average 4 extra FPS from the beta reviews, but it lalalalas up performance in other games like UT3, CoD4, so unless youre a crysis nut i would wait until the drivers are finished

Did you un-install the previous driver? Also some users are not seeing any increase but it's strange how the new drivers aren't being picked up.

Cool... Well the next driver 173 is supposed to be even better but it's great you got at least some improvement.

no, cos im fed up installing nvidias beta drivers at the moment( when the vista 64 bit ones are out ill slap them on as i only use vista for arsing around ), but most of what im hearing off the guys on guru3d is that there can be problems with fan control on some cards, others have no issues and all games FPS are up whereas others have no improvements or improvements in Crysis only with maybe decreases in other games. See the review here - Expreview.com - Extra Hardware News Report! » Blog Archive » comparison test: Forceware 171.16 beta & Forceware 169.25 WHQL

And others opinions on how they perform - Forceware 171.16 or 173.61?? - Guru3D.com Forums

Theyre definately worth a try if you havnt finished crysis, otherwise id just wait until full release which should be soon. The 173.61 drivers are the ones to watch for though

when is the 64 bit vista betas out

Also i have found the 1.1 patch works better for sli in 64bit vista
than in xp32, in vista i get about 60fps on textures on very high, water and motion blur to and everything else on medium. on xp its about 40??????
better than single card but still not much better

And when is the 9800 out

9800 wont be any better than 2 8800GTX's or 2 8800GT's overclocked as its only 2 8800GTS( g92 versions ) on 1 PCB. the G200 will be out in May, im sure it will get 35FPS on Crysis on very high lol

9800GX2 has been delayed from Feb 14th to Feb 21st, i dont think its gonna be much better than ATI's new 2x3870 cards
