Yup i definately think RA2 was better than RA3. Red 2 had best gameplay, units didn't look like bath toys and there was a point to making both ground and naval units.
In RA3 almost everything is amphibious which takes strategy out of the game. Plus the economy system is pathetic - u just have to sit a refinery right down on top of an ore node. There is no more mining ore fields or being strategic with your harvesting anymore. Another noob-friendly idea >_< IMO RA3 was made BY noobs FOR noobs. A little harsh, the style of RA3 is deliberately a bit bright and cartoony - its not supposed to be a serious game!
Agree with the Ore refinery though, pointless. Why not just combine the refinery with a mine and you build it on top of a Ore Fisher or something. (i.e. like the Metal Extractors in Total Annihiliation). |

RA1 had the most adult serious feel to it and really made you think 'yeah that could actually happen' or 'what if WWII had gone that way' .
RA2 was a little more camp but you were still thinking 'what if.' RA3 is more like Disney & Conquer with bath toys instead of tanks and runs with the theme 'if its funny to 8th graders, throw it into the game' Last edited by Pr0phet; 17-04-2009 at 10:32 PM.. |

I had a similar discussion with a C&C loving friend last week when I showed him RA3. I was still part of the community when WW developed RA2, even down to having a play of a beta in Chris Rubyor's office (Delphi, remember him!) and I know that they went for the wacky. the 'What if' really went out of the door right then, imo. The moment they gave Yuri 'silly' powers.
Red Alert, to me at least, has always been the comedy relief of the C&C world. Proper C&C has always been serious and hopefully it will stay that way. Red Alert has always been the wacky and funny side, well, since RA2 anyway, RA3 has just taken it up a notch. As long as they don't get any more silly, RA3 is just about the right balance tbh. All that said, I do miss the semi-seriousness of RA1, but the problem is that other games have been there and done that now, its not as though provoking as when Red Alert 1 came around.

I don't have a problem with jokes here and there in a C&C game but these FMV scenes could have been written by an 8th grader. Why do i say this? Because the FMV scenes are more like WWE cutscenes with commanders frontin' like there's no tomorrow. There is a BIG difference between 'propaganda' and 'show-boating.' If EA's script writers don't know that difference i suggest they bow out.
These are my only two beefs with RA3:- 1) Pathetic FMV scripts 2) Disney-like tanks/vehicles THIS IS a scarey looking tank: http://www.seibertron.com/images/new...game_brawl.jpg This is NOT: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_t3hZTHcazJ...moth-tanks.jpg |

RA2 is better by far
I think it's just taken the good points of Red Alert 2 and just messed it all up. 1:The whole strategy of the economy has been screwed up 2: I know red alert is the comic relief of C&C but it has gone from funny and believable to just plain stupid
