OK, i posted a thread about this a week or so ago, and couldn't find any answers to my question. But i now, having played about with my game folders, have found a solution!
OK, i have a dual boot system, xp pro on one hdd, vista home premium 64 bit on the other hdd. Have to play C&C generals ZH on xp pro cos i cant play online games with 64 bit vista. If you have 64 bit vista and cant connect to other players because it says you have different version, then read carefully, this may be of great help to you! I have The First Decade so people with other versions of the game please be aware that this may not work. (I'm not sure how the game installs the data using the original game or the Deluxe version) firstly you need to open up your start menu, then open up the tab that says'computer'. Now go to your program files (x86) (usually in the C:/ drive/local disk) and open up your EA games folder. Then open up your Zero hour folder. Ok, now first right click your generals application icon (thats the application itself and NOT the normal icon) and select it to run in compatability mode for XP, also tick the run as an administrator tab (both found under the compatabilty tab) press ok after you have done these things OK next open up the Data folder and then the INI folder in here you should find a file called INIZH.BIG. THIS SHOULDN'T BE HERE!!!! theres already a INIZH.BIG file in the main directory, which is the one you need, so delete the INIZH.BIG file found in the INI folder! and that should solve your online problem! It worked for me! I hope this was helpfull, as i know a few people who have this problem, hopefully it's now problem solved, happy gaming! |

OK, a quick update, so far this 64 bit work around has worked on 4 pc's of people i know, all of whom couldn't connect online, but now can! Although there still seems to be an issue with watching downloaded replays, if a game was played on a 32 bit machine, then you cant watch the replay on a 64 bit machine and vice versa. Dont know why and don't really care that much to try and find a fix for it. At least people with 64 bit machines can now actually join online games if they follow the instructions!
EDIT: Although i would like to know if the fix has worked for other people. As of yet i've not recieved any replies from people saying whether its worked for them or not (this fix is also on cncmaps.com). Last edited by psychoclops; 28-05-2008 at 11:27 PM.. |

I think that altering your systems from default settings, makes problems in the future. when what ever was causing the game to not load up in the first place. starts to take its toll,, you should just try to load up the game about once a week and if it don't load up!! just wait for the machines updates to get around to it,,, you could be causing problem with the video cards integrity,,
