Default How to start?

Hi all.

I have had the game for a while now but I can't seem to become "good" at it. For instance in Generals you learn what to build first what to use when to use what and against what. You learn all these things. You learn what to spend money on what to take risks on, but in this game I just can't seem to figure it out.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me. Maybe how to start or what to use against what. Really struggling with this game. I think I have gamers block.

Sorry thought it'd be obvious as these are the C&C 3 forms.

Anyway I'm talking about the Command and Conquer 3 : Tiberium Wars and the expansion.

Generals was a new storyline so it had to have a slower learning curve, but with C&C, EA are expecting that youve been playing since the first one (1995 i think), so the learning curve is a bit steeper. but if i was you id start wi GDI then NOD then SCRIN. GDI being the easiest then getting harder as you go on, idd complete this before the expansionn to get the full storyline and the learning curve is a lot steeper.

One more thing on the last mission with GDI dont just go into the NOD base blowing everything up like i did, cause i blew some buildings up that you can capture as secondary objectives.

How you start is generally with a power plant, I sometimes build a refinery to gather funds or a barracks for infantry and on other occasions a war factory. Go into a skirmish alone at first on both games and try a few build orders, what works for me may not work for you. Also look at gamereplays.org for replays of both games of how they started and what they built and when, some of which will not make sense. Let me know how you get on.

One thing always try to scout what you opponent is doing by using a cheaper unit or garrisoning a building with an infantry unit or having a unit from your war factory so you can plan your next move using an educated guess.

Hey well I tried some different tactics this week. I found one that works brilliantly, at least for me it does.

1. Crane + Base expansion thing.
2. Power Plant + Refinery.
3. Send Base expansion thing to nearest Tiberium field.
4. Refinery + Power Plant.
5. Deploy Base expansion thing.
6. Barracks.
7. GDI : 4 Rifleman Squads.
NOD : Haven't tried anything yet. I'm guessing rifleman and Rocket launchers.
Scrin : 3 Buzzers + 2 Desimators.

By then your money will read 0.

Then I send my units to defend the expansion base and build 2 more refinerys.

Thanks for the help guys.

If you tech up a bit, my favourite Nod tactic is Scorpions + Venoms with the Laser Capacitor upgrade.

One of my friends did that. Very strong army and hard to kill, but I play with Scrin and there towers are just AWESOME. They absolutely demolish those Venoms.

But if your army encounters the Scorpion + Venom army. Your army is pretty dead. There is a counter though, building those shock troopers with the weapon upgrade(can't remember the name now.) I think it's plasma disk.

Scrin are an odd faction, but they have a big unit in their arsenal, its called the mothership and will infect and destroy your base bit by bit once it hits it.

Once your hear it mentioned get anti air units out to destroy it immediately if you can.

This is created by the signal transmitter and cost 5000 credits, its a special ability.

I have called her in once, but I made the mistake of putting the signal transmitter at the opposite corner of the enemy base...... Yea.

SO... what you doing next weekend.
Aah not much.
Me neither .... Hey I just got a mothership.
That's nice.
(Mothership in corner).

15 minutes later.

Hey I thought you had a mothership.
Oh but I do... Shes almost there.
(Mothership over my base).

15 minutes later.

Your lying you don't have one.
Yes I do.
(Mothership half way there.)

3 months and many days later..

OI.... WHAT THE...... MOTHERSHIP AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Yip. I wanted to destroy his base with the mothership but it took sooooo long to get there. Luckily he isn't very good at the game.

I know the mothership is slow, however here is a tip with nod. i'm not sure if it is in tib wars, but you can stealth units from your war factory and they dont die like infantry. Think about how surprised anyone would be if they came across a stealthed flame tank only having infantry. This works for anything produced using the war factory possibly even mcvs that I havent checked yet. Try it for yourself.

If this is included in tiberium wars I should have a bit of fun on normal difficulty.

Update it does exist in tiberium wars and is the special ability called cloaking field, it only seems to cloak the mcv while its moving to its destination, still useful though. I think I will have some fun on normal difficulty.

Thats only where I tested this tactic, I should have came across it earlier. I used this tactic to complete the last objective in kanes wrath. Capture the tacitus, I stealthed a reckoner before putting a sabateur in it.

Any tactics I find are always tested against ai before I use them online, I currently take on medium ai because I find easy ai too easy.

Battle tactics should always be tested against ai before you try it online.

Any new tactics with gdi or nod should come in useful on the missions ground zero(gdis last mission) and kanes tower(nods last mission), I completed tiberium wars on easy and these missions are by no means simple on easy difficulty.
