I was playing basketball, when someone knocked a ball which hit my finger really hard.

It's left it all swollen, fragile and very sore.

Default Rapid Transit with Joy Pad Magazine

Quote:

When it comes to testing out multiplayer gameplay on the Burnout team, there’s nothing like gathering around the studio’s awesome online rack.

We have 8 consoles (codenamed: ‘Britney’, ‘Christina’, ‘Danni’, ‘Kylie’, ‘Benny’, ‘Joon’, ‘Fish’ and ‘Chips’) permanently hooked up and ready to go with all the latest challenges.

So today we got the chance to use it and show off all the cool new Cagney gameplay to Stéphane Rakontondrainibe, who was visiting us from the French magazine Joypad.

First up, was a chance to play ‘Rapid Transit’ - an 8-player Timed Freeburn Challenge that you’ll see coming in the Cagney update at the end of the month.

In this challenge, players must meet up at the L-Train Station in Downtown. Once there, a timer begins and they must race to Angus Wharf to complete 50 jumps on the back street ramps in under 3 minutes.

As you’ll see from the video we shot, even such a simple challenge results in tons of fun.

The race to the L-Train Station was pretty straightforward, but natural competitiveness quickly took over with Charnjit (driving ‘Kylie’) getting there first. Then came the inevitable waiting for the rest of the players, hoping that the next car to come barrelling into the station wouldn’t wipe everyone out.

With everyone in place at the station, Charnjit called out the team’s best time: 2 minutes 22 seconds and the countdown began. Of course, with the adrenaline flowing the team was too eager to get off the mark and got a False Start, which meant that everyone had to get back to the station before the challenge could continue.

With everyone back on track, the race to Angus Wharf began and the inevitable mayhem of cars leaping around the containers ensued. But, despite plenty of crashes and collisions the team still managed to beat their best time and check it out on the leaderboards – another new feature coming to Freeburn Challenges in the Cagney update .

Here's a movie of highlights from the session.

We'll bring you more from today's visit later in the week, including an interview with our special French journalistic guest, recorded for our upcoming French Crash FM podcast.

This section was quiet earlier and a quick check revealed why: Matt, you were offline! *gasp*

Now to be serious, and on topic (*gasps*).
Matt- did you post on here about the Downtown Showtime thing? If not, I can do that now. I saw that on Criterion Games and thought that I have not seen it posted here, by you or by anyone else.

There's no need to do that!
I should be receiving my Burnout postcard tomorrow, so hopefully that'll cheer me up...

Please ignore...

I saw someone else (Thunderstorm025) has posted it in another thread (Burnout Paradise - News)...

However, it seems as if nobody has seen it (there are no posts after it) and the news may benefit from being posted here, too. Also, the competition ends this Friday ( 6th June 2008 ), I believe...

Looks great! Amazing detail... The tire looks a bit dodgy, though...

Maxen13

PS Thunderstorm, perhaps you should post that news here, as well. The competition ends Friday and the news will benefit from it as more people will see it and so will know how to get the chance to name that building!

PS(2) Matt, take a look at the idea I posted in the thread to do with the Edge Magazine!

I didn't think TDU's bikes were bad. They were pretty good, in fact. Then again, I haven't played that game in a while, so this is from memory... Still, i hope BurnOut's is good.

Default Joy Pad visits Criterion Games

Quote:
As a rule, we don't invite press to the studio any more, but occasionally we make an exception.

Yesterday, we wanted to bring Stephane from the French magazine Joy Pad to see our latest Paradise City content.

Stephane's been playing Burnout since the original game. Check out this shot of him enjoying a demo of Burnout back in June 2001 in France!

And here's a great shot pictured next to our "Covers Wall". In fact, all the framed images to Stephane's right were Burnout covers for features he wrote.

It was a poignant moment for everyone - Stephane's moving away from journalism, and this will be his last report on Burnout.

Thanks for all your hard work bringing the news to French gamers, Stephane! Good luck for the the future from everyone on the Burnout team!

Yeah, still looks pretty good though as this is the first screenshot from the PC build of Burnout Paradise.

The graphics are supposed to be a lot nicer in the PC version, due to some brand new Video settings (shown in the image below!)
