Default world rankings explained!!!!

i don't know about you guys but i've been looking for this for a while.

Re: World ranking - how is it calculated?
by MatlalalaCriterion on Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:59 am

It is important to know that the players rating points are used to calculate their 'rating level'. We then compare the players 'rating levels' (not points) using an ELO calculation to determine how much the players rating needs to change. Beating a higher rated player will result in a bigger rating change!

We recently made a number of changes to the scoring system, but I'll clarify them in detail now.

Change 1
The 50 invisible 'rating levels' now cover twice the rating points. Doing this has meant every player can keep their points and position. We didn’t want to reset everyone’s points when we made the change! The highest rated player at that time was on is currently around 13000 rating points. This was already at our previous highest level 50! In the revised rating levels they will be at level 35.

Old system
Level 1: 0 to 99
Level 2: 100 to 199
......
Level 49: 10000 to 10249
Level 50: 10250 +

New system
Level 1: 0 to 199
Level 2: 200 - 399
........
Level 49: 10000 to 10249
Level 50: 10250+

Change 2
Players rating will now change a lot less for beating another player who is rated a lot lower. Beating a player who is 35 'rating levels' below will result in 0 points being added, this is because we feel the winning player has not demonstrated that their existing rating needs to change. The old system would always change the rating by a minimum of 50. This was bad as it allowed the host to race against players that they new they would beat (even kicking high ranked players) and still see their rating increase by 50 points. Bad!

REMEMBER: The rating points are NOT a reward they are a measure of skill!

Old system
Win 50 to 150
Lose -50 to -150

New system
Win 0 to 100
Lose 0 to -100

Change 3
The final change is to do with how points are awarded in races with more than 2 players. We now do not divide the total rating points by the number of players. This means beating 7 players in one race now results in a similar rating change to beating each player in 7 separate races.

Old system
Win 50 to 150 per race
Lose -50 to -150 per race

New System
Win 0 to 100 per player
Lose 0 to -100 per player

I hope that this makes things clear, sorry for the long post but to give you the detail that you asked for, it kinda required it!
Let me know if you have any questions

-Matt

This does clarify a few things. but only a few... I looked up the elo system and it shows more detailed equations and whatnot, just search for it...

Do the length of races also add in?
Is loosing to someone 35-50 ranks below you loosing you 100 points ? And concequently does that mean even if the person you beat is over 35 ranks above you you still get the max of 100 points? I like that you get 0 points for 35 ranks below you(i actually believe it should be 25 ranks) but to not give someone more of a bonus for beating 35 + ranks above you kinda sucks imo.
Is there a Bonus for overall?

Why cant we see these skill levels as Licenses? It would be a nice little title system as i suggested in the suggestions thread before i knew we had skill levels...

cheers, it's nice to see an explanation, and I almost understand it

is winning an event overall imortant, or is finishing 2nd 3rd just as good if you win 1 race out of 5

eh, i think there is a typo or something in the first change but other than that its makes sense.. Everyone in the game is worth a certain ammount of points, from 0-100, when you beat them. And everyone in the game can from 0-100 points from you for beating you.

I believe the new system in change one should be:

Level 35: 10250 - XXXXX

Making level 50 much higher than 10250.... thats what he explains, the old level 50 is now the new level 35...

Help me out with this.... Im having trouble understanding also... maybe a admin or mod can clerify....

Does anyone know what happens if drivers quit half way through a 5 race sequence?

E.g. 5 long races prepared, 5 of the 8 starting drivers give up and disconnect before the end of race 2. The other three racers continue and complete the 5 races - does the winner still get all the points they could have won against the 5 quiters, or are the new ranking scores only based on the 3 drivers left?

I've seen quite a few people quit after I've beaten them a couple of races , and not sure if I continue to gain points against them or not!

I think you should continue to loose points against the other racers if you quit, otherwise if you're having a bad day, just give up and not loose any ranking places!

In addition, are the ranking changed for each race individually, or only at the end of the series?

Anyway, have fun all, see you in my rear-view mirror some-time (well, most of you anyway!)
