Default Burnout™ Paradise demo to support up to 8 players online for limited period

Burnout™ Paradise demo to support up to 8 players online for limited period

From Jan 4th to Jan 14th 2008 – the Paradise City servers will double the number of players that can join in an online session of Burnout Paradise, from 4 to 8.

With it, a total of 13 new Freeburn challenges will be available for players to attempt; 3 challenges in 5, 6 and 7 player sessions, with 4 new challenges for those playing in 8 player sessions.

Burnout Paradise offers a true open world environment built for intense speed, excitement, and exploration. The demo is now available worldwide on the PlayStation®Network and Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace.

Update, January 15th

The Demo has now gone back to allowing up to 4 players in a gaming session - hopefully you got a chance to experience Paradise City with 7 other people.

Don't worry if you missed it, the full game is out in just over a week in which you'll be able to play online with 8 people - and you won't be limited to freeburn and a Hunter Cavalry! See you online...

Quite a lot. If you press start or select in game it will bring up the map. The small section of the map available to you in the demo is highlighted - the rest will come with the full game !

The part unlocked in the demo is the northern most shore-line. If you refer to simmoves picture you can see how 'little' the demo actually lets us play - or, rather, how big the city actually is.

And just to put this in to context, on how big the city is, I've made a useful image which shows how big the city is, and what you can explore in the demo.
The demo area is highlighted in white.

Will this mean we have to re-download the demo?

Yeah, thats the only part i looked at in the demo - never noticed you could see the whole map :P

I like the idea of those roads along the hills/mountains... should be fun.

I'm thinking of pre-ordering it now

Well in freeburn your suppost to play together and be in the same area, so assuming people are doing the challenges it should be fine.

Is that an airport in the top right?

The map I posted is from October's edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine US. I'm not sure how accurately it reflects the actual map, though (it may just be an early artists impression) - I'll try and find out.

Why is it only 8 players untill the 14th? I think it makes the demo a lot more fun and don't see why it's necessary to reduce it back to 4 players again.

There is a more recent version of the full game map to be found here. There are some minor differences worth noting.

I've only run the demo online since the servers went to the full 8 cars (freeburn mode) and I have been having lots of problems being kicked all the time

I can only play freeburn online for about 5 minutes before I get kicked... again & again & again.
Just to confirm, there's nothing else running on my wireless network, bandwidth is not shaped (traffic) and the firewall is setup for uPnP with all ports available.

As this is the last day of the full 8 car online I'm really hoping that this won't happen tomorrow!
They better sort this out really soon as I'm thinking of cancelling my pre-order for this game

why did they take out the airport? That'd be really good.

That map was a 'prototype' and it's from 2 years ago .

In the latest podcast (Episode 14), they talk about it (and the airport) and hint that they may consider this for downloadable content (DLC). They're very secretive about what DLC will be released, although they do say that it's going to be something "special", and that only releasing new cars would be boring - so I expect it to be new game modes or a new area . I hope so, anyway. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

It would be awesome if it was the airport, though .

Whats up with the AI cars in the demo, looks horrible when they make the turns in curves, some sort of lag? i really hope they fix it before final release.
