Love the game, but would like the OPTION of a restart. This is especially the case when you are trying to win a car upgrade (Burning Run?). Practice makes perfect when trying to complete the timed run so I would rather go back to the beginning and race again when I fail. At the moment, it's a complete pain the bum to have to drive back again.
For this I would choose to restart, if I just lost a race, I might just shrug my shoulders and look for something else nearby - the key being I would have the choice!! Other than this, I love the free-roaming aspect - I spent a couple of hours last night just driving around looking at stuff, finding smashes, looking for billboards and jumps. A re-start option would not stop me from doing this. Hope there will be plenty of updates and game content for this one - love it! Regards Brian. |

Jeff Gerstmann posted his own review of Burnout Paradise on his personal blog
He gives it a 9.5, and it's a good read too... Jeff Gerstmann is Still Alive » Blog Archive » Burnout Paradise Review

the takedowns online are a bit... lucky... they are so horrible that i wont touch(use) an aggression car or go anywhere near another player... i cant find a way to hit someone when they are driving in a straight line to take them down, my car always bounces off and the other player doesnt move, then i go and use the momentum to hit him harder and i fly straight into a wall and he continues on a straight path... ive tried this with friends in races online while we were both in the same car. And if any car, even aggression, gets near the back of a another car its over... from what i have seen is that this is how they are supposed to be and they are very random.
alot of the times people have the UI bug on them while in game, sometimes the minimap icons and triangles will go away, sometimes the whole top of the UI will dissappear(standings, freeburn/race preview and the road signs). If you leave the game and rejoin it will fix itself. |

Ever since I saw burnout 3 (never seen 1 or 2) I have always looked forward to the next one wondering how you can possibly improve on arguably one of the greatest driving franchises known to date. When I saw burnout revenge i thought that the shortcuts and the vertical sections added to burnout revenge made it an even more exitable racer (if possible). However, I have a friend who argues that he prefers burnout 3 because the whole trafic checking took the challenge out of racing. I have a rule for this type of thinking. Well, actually i'm copying it from the bible but still- 'what god gives with one hand he takes with the other' and that brings me on neatly to the new burnout paradise game.
Starting off with the good, the new burnout has introduced even more freedom into the game. You can quite literally go anywhere and do anything you want from the get go. The showtime mode i especially liked because not only can it be done at any time (like when your frustrated after you crash) but you can also compete with your friend even if he isn't online at the time. I'm also very glad to see road rage hasn't moved. I think its fair to say it's probably the most enjoyable event in the game. The new stuntruns and marked man events are less appealing but are still enjoyable to do. Online though I think is really it's selling point. The accessability is great. It takes less than ten seconds to go online with other people. The customisable races are impressive (although only 8 finish points kinda gets a little tiring to keep using after a while). The challenges/awards are endless and fun (as long as everyone co-operates) which means days if not months of gameplay. Not to mention the speed and the sheer strength of some of the cars/vans can put a smile on your face. However, when you gave all of that freedom, it kinda had some drawbacks to it. It also gave us the freedom to get lost when we have no idea which roads to take. It makes it a lot easier to put the car onto roads or into obstacles that you don't want it to be. It also means having to drive through half a city to do a particualr event (or to re-do it) and although you can just go to the next junction for a new event try to picture this. You finish a race at the north-western or western parts of the map and are looking to find the next event only to realise that all the events near you have already been done and so you have to hightail it back across the city again. I really don't think my friend would prefer that. Also, this may just be me but I think the game might be slightly less forgiving than previous titles. Yes, the enemy AI and time limits set are not brutal and the game is meant to be unrealistic but i'm not sure how simply brushing the side of traffic or clipping the back of a car can send your vehicle flying. And althogh i personally like the DJ giving tips and making the journey less boring (once you get past the annoying tutorial comments every five seconds at the beginning of the game) a LOT of burnout paradise owners seem to be against it. However I do agree with people not liking the soundtrack. I don't know that many people driving along to the sounds of avril lavigne and most of it kinda seems old to me. Anyway, despite the annoying bits and pieces in between, once you get past all that you realise that burnout paradise is a classic burnout game. That sense of speed is still there. It's just as crazy, reckless, and adrenaline pumping as always. Kinda like having a bar brawl i guess.......... |

the best game i have played by far... i have 100% completion and have finished the offline game which is flawless (restart whiners should be shunned)
there is a slight problem with online. I got the game the first day is came out and after about an hour i was ranked 4 in the world since then i haven't stopped playing. a week and a half later i reached the ultimate goal #1 i was so excited. Until feb.8 when u guys changed the system dont get me wrong i hated the cheaters but there was one flaw DISCONNECTIONS. disconnections ment nothing before this day now though you can lose 3500 points in a five race marathon WHAT!!!!!!!!! #1 in the world has 12417 points thats just not fair when i lose connection with your servers i lose this many points. my disconnection points are totaling 30,000 come on there was no disconnection in revenge why is there some now. my friend has lost 50k to disconnection (420 u know who u are) a perfect game except for 1 flaw disconnections willing to explain more if needed but its a problem that needs to be fixed Gamertag: chiefowner world rank: 7 current wins 1293 (most in the world by 100 nuf said sry 420 )

I take back what i said about the aggression cars up there, my favorite car now is the thunder shadow... They still get taken out by the f1 cars taping my left and me flying right into a wall to crash, but it doesnt happen 1/4 as much as the uberschall or the pcpd... and its faster ;-)

You can redo events but there is no point unless you want the practice, it doesn't effect your licence, As for 8/10 score, should be an 11. I own all the burnout titles on xbox through to the 360 and love em all. Each one gets better and Criterion are the best, free bikes another place to play coming soon and all the involvement they give us the consumer that's an 11 in my book. Playing the game is a blessed relief from boredom and gives me a 43 yr old a buzz. Now all I need do is practice those stunt runs a little more and aim for the million.

I'd like to chime in here and add my thoughts as I'm a PC gamer and this was my first foray into Burnout, let alone burnout online. ( A License in a day, then I hit some multiplayer up for a good 10 hours of the last few days)

I notice this pretty often. I get lost a fair bit and end up taking the wrong routes. It's just new players not knowing the map and how the freeway works. Quote:
