The beautiful game of football made sense to me first when I was six years old. At that time I finally understood the basics of football. However, I still didn't have a favourite club yet. I obviously had picked my favourite player, though, and it was not surprising that Ronaldo Fenomeno hit me most. At that time he was fantastic, the only one who could seperate himself from the rest.
Not before I was 10, in 2003, the beginning of the Galactico Era, did I have a whole football heart. Real Madrid was the team, the one and only, and I loved them with my whole heart. The main reason was of course Ronaldo, but with the likes of Figo, Zidane, Beckham and Roberto Carlos it made my decision complete. This beautiful passion lasted all the way to January 2007. The awful news of Ronaldo leaving made me doubt. All the Galacticos were at that time gone: R. Carlos in Fenerbahce, Figo in Inter, Beckham in the L.A. Galaxy and Zidane retired.
My Milan passion started here. It was difficult just to change the favourite team like this, I hat to adjust myself to Milans way of football. What made me happiest was the fact that Ronaldo was going to play again - after a long row of injuries.
He mostly managed to redeem himself - scoring great goals and playing beautifully. But then the shock came: Another blow-off injury on 14.02.2008, like the two recognizable previous ones. This time, after being informed that Milan did not extract his contact, I wasn't in doubt. Even though Ronaldo didn't play for Milan anymore, I stay a loyal Milan supporter. It is one thing to give up his favourite club for his favourite player, but it is another thing to do this repeatedly. I stay as a Milan fan, with or without our star players. My heart has found itself in a beautiful club with great passion, and I won't ever be able to give that up.
Considering Ronaldo, I did not give him up either. I waited, like I did before the World Cup 2002, for him to return. And he did that, in March 2009, with style. The goals are back, the Fenomeno is back and C. Ronaldo will never be first choice for the Ronaldo name ever. There is only one real Ronaldo - the Fenomeno.
Like I mentioned, Milan is the club in my heart - in the past, now, and in the future. FORZA MILAN
