When the Sims 2 was first announced back when I still had trouble growing a moustache and my voice wavered tentatively between alto and baritone. I was very excited about the change, it was so revolutionary.

Let's see why:

1. Complete 3D graphics. Which frankly, still look superb all these years later.

2. DNA, life stages, old age, death. Life stages, transition from one age to another.

3. Aspirations, fear, career opportunities, wants. Personality types.

4. Something I've surely forgotten.

Now the Sims 3 has been announced, I don't see anything too revolutionary. It seems like a step sideways instead of the massive leap forward that The sims 2 was. Maybe I'm more cynical in my old age and expected much more. But I'm not feeling the same vibe.

Basically, as it is. I have no plans to buy the Sims 3. There's nothing I can't do in the sims 2 except the persistent neighbourhood. Which frankly, isn't worth spending 200 euros on another 8 expansion packs.

Basically nlm EA.

I don't see how you could critise a game you haven't played?

I agree, Im not feeling the 'vibe' but nothing new? I personally LOVE the idea of walking around town and swimmable lakes etc.

It will all come out in the wash.

I haven't criticized the game, I've just given the reasons why, with the information I have confirmed so far about the game. I have no plans to buy it.

Yeah, well maybe your just not so impressed with the whole idea of a whole other sims, which isnt really that diffrent.

In EA's deffence, i personaly think that they have found a good thing and dont want to make a huge diffrence, because after all, the people buying the game know that they're buying a life simulator, so why change it up too much?

EA is just not ready for that giant leap you speak about, after all with the whole risk they took on the sims online and see how that turned out for them.

I think it's right for them to play it safe. And for now we will just have to worship the marvell which is the sims 3.

(P.s. Now that Will Wright is working on his own projects and passions, i dont see the crazy excitment he used to throw our way passing by any time soon.)

Well, I'm not willing to pay hundreds of Euros for a game and it's expansions that offer me so little difference from The Sims 2 which I already have.

Yeah, I'm not discounting that altogether, but when I hear things like them holding back seasonal weather for TS3 expansions it makes me cringe. I bought all TS1 games and expansions and pretty much al TS2 and expansions. I felt TS2 was justified with all the changes made. TS3 doesn't promise me enough to justify it in the same way.
