As I touched on the other day, I just thought I would put down my views on Red cards and keepers.

In FIFA 09, it is impossible to have your Goalkeeper sent off. I have seen Yellow cards, which should have been red. I have seen yellow cards, followed by a Second bookable offence, sometimes RED card's in their own right, yet the keeper just gets a quiet chat and no early bath.

FIFA 09 is the most realistic football simulation to date. I can understand not having a dive button:

Quote:

we don't want to endorse cheating

I cant understand the leniancy on Keepers though. You have the choice of taking 7 subs to the game. All teams have reserve keepers. If you choose not to take a Keeper with you, then you run the risk of having an outfield player in goal in the event of a Keeper howler.

If the argument from EA is one of outfield players in goal, fine - make it compulsory to have 1 keeper sub.

In real life, keepers make mistakes ( some are plain dirty ) and they get the consequences. As it stands, your keeper will only get a chat and a yellow, meaning it's only the Red MIST that descends, not the Red Card that is raised.......

All of the above were said by Alan Brazil on Talksport this morning, regarding Englands performance in the 2 - 0 defeat against Spain last night.
He also said:

Maybe that is why he is a Radio DJ and Fabio Capello is the England manager.......

Ok, so we lost - but, we lost to the current EUROPEAN Champions and CURRENT World number 1 ranked team:

People talk about Passion and commitment, but sometimes you get outplayed. In my opinion, that is exactly what happened.

I am fed up of the media Hyping England to win the world cup off the back of one win, then slamming the team/manager to the floor. The media commentary itself is becoming a spectator sport in its own right. I know there are discussions to be had about games/matches/events, but these need to be put into perspsctive:

1: It was a Friendly
2: As above, against a Team ranked higher than England, indeed than ANYONE else in the world.
3: England had big gaps of first team players

I am not making excuses. We got beaten by a better team. I thought David Beckham made a difference when he came on, not only by almost setting up Cole for a debut goal, but also the passion we all want from our team is clear to see when Becks pulls on the England shirt.

I am not qualified enough to give an in depth technical analysis of the performance, but I am a TRUE fan of England. I didn't see a team who went on the pitch to lose. I saw an England side, with some fill-in roles, get beaten by a better team. It's good to see the young blood put into a game like that, against opposition like that and goes to show that in top flight international football, there is a gulf between Us and the high flyers.

If you saw Brazil v Italy, you will understand - England are better under Capello, no doubt. And can we please judge the team on competitive results, not friendlies.

I didn't think I would enjoy writing a blog - I also didn't ever believe that there would be a need to post twice in one day......

With that said, this thread made me realise the logic behind on of EA's decisions about online gameplay....and gave me the desire to write again.....

The OP is complaining that injuries do not affect players online. I understand the school of though - injuries happen, but in the world of Online FIFA, they are never terminal, or seem to affect the player enough to warrant a substitution.

Yet, when you see his response to the mod's answer, you kind of understand where EA are heading with this descision:

Quote:

yea but its more fun to foul the star players and take em out the game online, but this option isnt in there, which spoils the fun

Just WOW. Ok, so we all do a "naughty" tackle now and again, especially against friends - it can be funny. But this guy just wants to use injuries deliberately to disable an opponent - from the off. No thought about trying to win the game with skill - lets just KICK everyone off the park......

I can now see how EA can justify the decision for no online injuries - accidental ones would be cool, but when you have people intent of damaging your team quality, for the sake of a win and some rank points, I believe EA made the right call.

Now, Keepers not being able to get a RED CARD, thats a different matter - maybe my subject for tomorrow......

I am going to be honest. I didn't see this one coming.

For some reason, there seems to be flood of Liverpool related update threads. There is concern that Liverpool are not highly rated enough, that they should be a 5* team. However, if you look at recent results, they are not exactly looking like world beaters. It took a late appearance of golden boy Fernando Torres to save the blushes, and possibly the title race, against Portsmouth last week.

The rating system is based on squad players rating and cohesion. If you have a complete SQUAD of world class players, your Team ranking will be affected accordingly. Likewise, if you have a good starting 11, but you are lacking in depth, then your overall Team star ranking is bound to be affected.

As far as I am aware, the introduction of Arshavin to the Arsenal camp, tied in with a few player stat ammendments means that Arsenal are now 5* team.

I know its hard to see the world clearly without shading it with your clubs colours, but Liverpool fans need to understand that 4.5 stars is not BAD, but to attain a 5* ranking, the whole picture needs to be considered.

EA SPORTS™ Football World - FIFA 09 Ultimate Team

Ultimate Team seems set to cause a stir on the boards from now until release. Looking at the screenshots and watching the video, it seems we are able to play matches in the Arena.

I also noticed a Training Pitch Card - does this mean we are finally able to practice FK's with a Wall? I guess it's too early to call how good this is going to be, but certainly the initial brief looks great.

This is not available to download until 19th March, so prepare yourselves for wading through multipe threads discussing the new mode - for the next 6 weeks....

As you will be aware, its here. The forums were hushed for a second as the waiting pack downloaded on mass, ready to scrutinise every tiny detail of the stats and transfers hoping for a mistake. A small chink in the EA armour that would allow them to post their anger once more.

I am sure we are all prepeared for the onslaught of "OMG, Ronaldo (CR7) has gone down" or "LOLZ, Quaresma SUcKzorz". This is inevitable. You can please some of the people some of the time, you cannot please all of the people all of the time. In these boards case, there are just some people you cannot please ;).

First Impressions:

It looks ok. There seems to have been some adjustment [down] of CR7. I have only played 2 games, both Quick rank matches, both as PSV....

I lost the first 1 - 0 to Arsenal - a 117th minute goalmouth scramble, but hey, thats life.

The second game I won, against, you guessed, Man United. It finished 2 - 1 and I was trailing up until the 83rd minute. Extra time saw me score a breakaway after 114 minutes and I held on for the win.

The only initial concern I have is that there were 11 subs available for both matches - in Quick Ranked...... I am sure there used to only be 7.....

Anyway, it's time for me to go -at this moment, my bed is more appealing than this screen

I always promised myself I would try new things. From eating new food as a kid, to buying games that reviewers have slated - I like to make up my own mind.

With that said, I feel duty bound to write at least one blog entry, so here I am. Sat in front of my PC - staring at a blank box. Ok, so not strictly true, as I have typed 71 words to get here.....

So, having not done one of these before, I guess I should give myself some structure. I am just going to post my personal views on the current hot topics. This will more than likely involve Manchester United being over-rated, Quitters and the like - but to start I cannot help but notice that there may be an update on the way??

The Frenzy surrounding the update is laughable. The game was completed for release in October '08. The fact that EA even OFFER a free update after the window closes is enough for me. The fact that it has been delayed due to a bug, for me, is a good thing. It shows good "practice" in test and fix before a deployment - I would much rather wait a week or so, than have the in-game squads crippled by an update. Maybe its my age, but Even if the winter squad update takes another 2 weeks, won't that be acceptable? I think it is.

Manual: The way forward.

Only point of interest is that I am now fully manual in all, including online ranked and sticking with my adopted team, PSV. I equate the learning process to my struggle to move to manual gear changes on Forza motorsport. I mentally decided that I would write off any results in the learning process. I refused to get annoyed if I lost, of which there were many losses :).

Last night I think I turned a corner, I started an online ranked game and after 20 minutes had to pause - I was sure the settings were back to assisted, but to my delight, I was still manual on all settings. It seems I have gone "over-the-top" with regards to the bulk of the learning, so now onto honing my skills - I still suffer too many shots going wide....

For Blog 1, they think its all over....

......it is now
