While looking about I came across this video for EA's next Publication Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The video is in co-op mode so it maybe be hosted local as opposed to server based but maybe its some thing to do with the online code used by the EA family that is the problem?

yes but your forgetting the big difference to game like mercs2 to game like bfbc and coop mode is just playing agaisnt semi scripted ai, which is not quite same as 24 people all doing their own thing. cod4 and r6 can be hosted since they are 1/4 of the size of bfbc maps and far less to take into account, even graw2 is far less as complicated in terms of whats going on when you play it which again is why i think you cant host a bfbc game,but its all guess work since theres nothing offical on if it can or cant be done.

Also, Mercs isn't hosted locally. You hve to connect to EA servers.

Played some coop in mercs last night and other than some pop ins while moving at terrific speeds it was fun as fun can be.
