Default The Havok Engine

I was looking into Star Wars, the Force Unleashed and noticed it too shares the Havok Engine with BFBC. Anyway a quick skoot over to Wikipedia and its seems this engine has been used in over 150 games!

I wonder which game makes the best use of it.

At first I had to agree with Splash-Damage in saying BF:BC was built on FROSTBITE and that alone. But looking at the Havok website BF:BC is listed as one of the games using Havok. I can only guess because there are so many ways Havok can be use that in BF:BC its used for player model animations and rag doll, things that FROSTBITE was not diesiged to do.

As dazzadavie said....

I wonder if the Frostbite engine is a modified version, or if the two engines run together???

All game landscape physics, destruction, dynamic lighting and sounds are done by Frostbite, I know that much. Havok comes in different forms Havok Behavior, Havok Physics, Havok Animation, Havok Cloth and Havok Destruction. Which one BF:BC uses I have not got a clue, but I would rule out the Physics, Cloth and Destruction (unless any one has seen some flying laundry for Cloth?).

A Small piece I did on Frostbite
And all the products done by Havok

Frostbite is one of my top two game engines.

Here's a tidbit of little-known info:
Max Payne 2 for the PC was the first game to be released that used the Havok engine. It beat out Half Life 2 by just a couple of months.
I had so much fun with havok in MP2. At one point I saved the game in a spot right before I encountered an enemy on a piece of scaffolding. I then killed him just to watch him bounce between the metal rods on the scaffolding and the wall. Must have done that about 100 times in a row, blasting him in different areas just to see the different reactions, hehe.

Half Life games used the Havok engine, then the Source engine, which was a heavily modified version of the Havok engine, since Havok only used set animations, whilst Source used Ragdoll phsyics. Now Games like Team Fortress 2, etc, uses the Orange Box engine (I think) which is a modified version of the Source engine. So I guess that most engines are modified versions of the Havok engine, kinda like pizza. You need the base, tomato sauce and cheese* (The Havok engine), and then you can put the toppings on (the modifications of the engine).
