Default BFBC2 is... not using the GPU?

BFBC2 is having major FPS trouble for me in multiplayer. Wondering what was causing it, I booted up some system tools (techpowerup stuff) to have a look. I was slightly shocked - CPU usage apparently sits at within a few % of 100%, but the GPU usage was showing up as roughly 'bugger all' - no more than 10%.

I'm using:
Intel C2Duo E4600 @ 2.40ghz
Nvidia GeForce 9600GT
6GB of RAM
Win7 64bit.

This is easily above the minimum reqs, but getting anywhere near a combat situation turns the game into a slideshow that invariably results in me dying. A lot. With *all* the settings on 'low'.

I've already updated just about all the drivers I possibly can, defragmented HDD, etc etc etc. Any ideas on why the game is ignoring my video card and hammering a CPU that is, according to requirements, more than sufficient?

If you have 196.75 drivers, roll back to 196.21 because the .75 were reported to burn up older generation graphics cards.

Nvidia already pulled them from their website for more work.

As far as it not putting any load on the GPU, it is a common problem that I hope they get fixed.

The game doesn't seem to put any load on my GTX 260 either, when I go back and check the GPU-Z log.

There is something weird with your setup then, my specs are higher than yours and I can assure you this game puts a heavy load on both my CPU and my GPU

What GPU are you using?

From all of the posts I am reading, the people with the least problems are the people with Recommended Specs machines.

Anyone in the Minimum recommended, or even in the middle of the two like myself, seem to have the most issues with this.

Yeah, I've seen cases of similar rigs apparently working fine, which only increases my frustration. Also, I'm currently on the .21, so I'm okay there.

Yay more console features for our PC games.
Single core utilization and poor GPU support.

Why would a port only use single core?

I've got an E6600 at 3.2ghz and a 8800GTS 640mb OC.

70-90% CPU usage, 30-50% GPU usage.

Minimum settings, limited to DX9 for a few more FPS, 1280x720 (on a 1080p screen - sacrilege), averaging just over 30 FPS. barely playable, causes mild headaches and nausea (LOL).

I'm in 3 minds as to whether my CPU is holding up my GPU, my GPU is too slow or a bug is minimising performance on my hardware.

Same CPU @ 3.4ghz, and using a GTX 260. Same FPS.. ~35. It's terrible.

I would suggest getting a good air cooler and then overlocking to FSB 266 (3.2 ghz). Dual cores don't seem to work well under 3ghz. also yours has only 2mb of L2 cache

it's 100% your low clocked dual core. a quad will up your gpu utilization.

Hello!
E7400 ----- 1 - 100% and 2 - 85% - 100% even in the menu.
GTX 260 896MB --- it doesn't even get hot.
2x1 GB ram ------ hardly goes over 1300 usage
audigy 2 zs
Vista Business 32bit

Everithing low exept level of Deatail to Medium and force DX9.
Geting 30 - 50 fps but averge 30 FPS and the ress does not matter, from 1920X1080 to 1440X900 does not change the fPS at all or too small diff, even lower make no difference.

This game needs an optimization, no way you shouldnt be abble to at least play in medium settings whit my specs in lower ress. :/

I run my E6850 at 3.8GHz and still see only 30-40% GPU utilisation on my GTX 275 :/

Although this has the advantage of being able to crank up the AA to 16x with no performance impact at all, but with it being 30 FPS to start with there isn't much point :P

was my exact problem with my dual core. my cpu was at 80-100% and my gpu at 20-40%. i "upgraded"(really a side-grade in almost all other games)to a quad and went from 18-40 fps to 60-120.

a CPU cannot run dirext x games properly on its own.your pc woud simply run at around 5fps and would look like garbage. An example is the test you can do as part of futuremarks benchmark app.In that it does a scene render using the CPU after its run the same test using your GPU.The scene is really slow but its never going to be fast as CPUs are not designed to operate DX games on their own.I suspect that the BFBC2.exe is running at 100% because another program is conflicting with its process.I have had in the past RETAIL games flag up warning about keylogging( a false positive i know) but there behaviuor seems to cause some mischioef amongst certain AV apps, like mine which is Kaspersky, although in this case my AV has no issues with BFBC2.It didnt like the Shift.exe from EA but kaspersky is always imporoving and they listen to feedback from users.Where as many other AV progs are more of a hinderance than a soultion.
It MAY be that, it may not. Youy migth want to run task manager and see if there are any other processes like your Av for example also floating on CPU usage whilst BC2 is running. Also check that your firewall is allwing all ports to be free from bloackage and check that Windows firewall isnt also enabled, unless this is your only firewall of course if you use them at all

sry for the numerous typos,i have twitchy hands because my blood stream has exhausted all the caffeine ive absorbed to day: so i require a large input of coffee

CPU = e6750 O/C to 3.2GHz
GPU = GTX275

Res 1920 x 1080 all settings on HIGH except bloom which hurts my eyes

FPS - 55-125 but all silky smooth

I downgraded to .21 drivers too.

Don't know exact gpu load but I know it heats up a fair bit so it must be loaded over 50%

Edit: Just run monitor and GPU usage is up to 80+% so nowt wrong there as I suspected.

just throwing this out there, I'm no expert lol.

Doesn't windows 7 have graphics emulation?

also if you were to bump up your render ahead limit, wouldn't that force the gpu into action?

Tried the render-ahead thing, no luck. It's almost like it's just ignoring the fact that the GPU exists at all -.-

The game is not using your GPU because your dual core CPU is not able to handle all the information that is given to it by both the video card and the game. You are CPU bottlenecked, time to upgrade to a quad core.

My x2 6400+ was giving me 20 fps regardless of settings at 40% GPU utilisation until I changed to an i5 750. Performance tripled and the GPU started using 100%
