Default might want to look at upgrades for Bf3/FB2 Dx10/11 only supported

First thing.

KEEP IT CIVIL .....

Repi has been dropping a few hints on twitter Regarding Frostbite 2 engine..assuming that BF3 is going to be on Fb2 as is expected.

and I personally like what im seeing since its going to make frostbite 2 much more efficient over this version of frostbite that BFbc2 was made on.

heres some quotes from Repi

Quote:
Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11. XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended. Lots of time to upgrade if you havent!
Twitter / Johan Andersson: Frostbite 2 is primarily d ...

Quote:
@GamerOfFreedom Shouldn¨t be that different compared to FB1.5/BC2 but with DX10/DX11 card and Vista/Win7 required. FB2 is more efficient
Twitter / Johan Andersson: @GamerOfFreedom Shouldn¨t ...

Personally i like the fact that its Dx10 and Dx11 supported only since Dx10 and Dx 11 when used properly are very effecient at rendering nicer graphics and this is going to make overall development much easier and with dx10/11 the graphics could look totally amazing

This for me is a great step forward IMO.

i wouldn't mind if the graphics were nearly identical to BC2's, at this point i just want them to work on extending the scale and optimizing the current engine as much as possible.

Alot less uproar that i thought.

Though it is only good as XP is outdated and DICE is helping making it more obsolete.

Oh and that tweet made me much more hyped about BF3

I figured this would happen.

Making people upgrade again... great. It better perform better than BC2 on my current machine. There is no reason why BC2 should run so horrible on a Core 2 Quad CPU with a GTS 250 and 4 GB of RAM on Win7 64-bit.

you should be ok with what you have..you can run dx10 no issues and FB2 will be more efficient then Frostbite 1.5. make a post in the members helping members area maybe we can help you squeeze a bit more performance out that rig...

worse case scenario i am upgrading maybe in a month or so , so i will have a gtx275 to get rid of..soon

I may post there later, I actually haven't played BC2 since Map pack 4 first came out but I'd definately like to see some improvement in performance.

My CPU isn't overclocked though. It's a Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.4Ghz. I want to overclock it but I need to get a good fan for a fairly decent price first. Maybe one day I'll get another GTS 250 to SLi with my other one.

by the time BF3 is out, DX12 will be out, it is about time DX9 was dropped as it must cause more problems for the devs anyway,
also, it tends to be very minimal effects when DX11 is used over DX10 as this gen of DX11 cards don't really cope to well with heavy use of DX11 effects.

Seriously? If im not completly wrong all the xbox360/ps3 is only able to handle is DX9 and it isnt 32bit either. I dont buy that. Not supporting DX9 on pc is just another way to push new gfx cards.

well we all knew it was bound to happen, and i have been beating people over the head..XP is still a good operating system, but with W7 out and its such a great O/S IMO and 64 bit becoming the norm..Xp was destined to be sent to the history books.

they will code seperately for ps3 and xbox..but PC is moving forward..and its just the way things are my friend..Pc gaming is IMO the best way to play shooters, but it has always demanded the player be willing to upgrade as time goes. DX10/11 are much more efficient methods of rendering then dx9 was and requires the graphics card itself to be designed differently..and they will become the standard. Can't expect to play games in 2010 and into 2011 with gpu's from 2008.its the way pc gaming has always been as far as i can remember.

I can see this kind of dx10/11 support only becoming more the standard then the exception.

Doesn't matter if DX11 is supported or not, if the game is another badly optimized port filled with bugs having DX11 won't make a difference to how much frustration the game can generate. And Frostbyte needs a lot more time to mature, a few more years.

No offense Umpato..but i am beginning to think you couldnt find the bright side of a 10' round Lit light bulb no matter what is said. If your that convinced the game isnt going to be any good...solution..don't buy the game..seems like a simple solution to me. I didnt like Mw2, I didnt buy it ..problem solved ..but constantly roaming the forums looking for a place to grind your axe isnt contributing to the discussions..
anyways..back on topic

as i said i think Dx10/11 support only is a good step forward for This title.

Good point. I'm glad to see they are demanding better hardware and vista/w7 for this game. Makes me glad i did the upgrades i did last fall and going to look at upgrading my gpu's maybe this fall or late winter..

Actually ATI has supported DX10 since the 2000 series, although performance wouldn't be great using one. Maybe if you're running at a low res and/or low settings.

Oh nice, since you can't actually counter my argument you throw the old argument of having an axe to grind.

I bought BC2, I have as much right to be in this forum and voice my opinion as you or anyone else. In fact it's because of BC2 and MoH that I see no bright side to what's coming, and thankfully a lot more people too. If you want to deny that, fine, just don't circumvent an argument you know you will lose because there's no way to defend DICE at this point.

As I've said when you first came to the forums IW and DICE are the same. I didn't buy MW2 and I sure won't make the mistake of buying DICE's games again. And if you value PC gaming you would value people like me pointing the way to real PC devs that do real PC exclusives and not DICE who did what they did.

Umm... didn't know about this

But anyways about 5% or so of the modern gaming community still use <9DX chipsets

Everyone has 8xxx, 9xxx, 2xx, 4xx for nVidia and 4xxx and 5xxx for ATi

Im not going to counter your argument because im not going to get in one with you over this. you have a H8 on for DICE and their games ,,fine..don't think bf3 is going to be any good..OK..have that opinion..I'll restate my position for one last time..Don't buy the game..forget it exists..really. Im not going to have a round and round discussion with someone who has decided and is hard set that something sucks before they see it and im not going to be drawn into a debate over other developers this is the Bfbc2 area of the forums and is for bfbc2 (and for the time being bf3) discussions. if you want to discuss other developers products/games do so in the correct area of the forums Gamers Retreat - Electronic Arts UK Community and we can discuss them there.

If you wish to discuss dx 10/11 being only supported feel free to post a comment.

Then I will make one last note here and be done since you made a great deal of assumptions about my person and you don't know me from anywhere.

Who was right in the end about BC2 turning out to be the product it did? You or me? I'll let the people decide for themselves in their own minds.

What version of Frostbite is MoH running on? The 3 minutes of the beta that I played were actually very smooth in a full server and it even looked better than BC2. The gameplay just wasn't my kind of style.

DICE has spent 3 years developing FB 2.0 and a rumored 5 years or so developing BF3, how much more time is needed?

You dont get my point. Im not saying i want the game to support DX9 im saying leaving it out on the pc while consoles are DX9 based means either its a big lie to cover up or they are really not porting the game. BTW i would be carefull what you say on these forums, ppl might think you are kinda an official source because you are a moderator here. As far as i know there isnt a statement from EA/dice telling that they are coding seperately. Dont talk bullocks if you dont have a reliable proof.

I've had my 8800GTS since launch day in 2006 and to this day I still use DX9 over DX10 when given the choice. For some reason it has much better mouse reaction time and doesn't feel delayed.

true, but if they are only supporting dx 10/11 for pc and consoles are not capable of dx10/11 then it safe to make the assumption that they are doing something separate for those platforms...doesn't take a lot of imagination to think this could be whats happening.

It's been heavily implied and rumored that FB 2.0 has been in development for BF3 as a non ported PC optimised version of FB, and it would make sense since BC1= used FB 1.0, BF1943= FB 1.5, BC2= FB 1.5 plus destruction 2.0 then BF 3 being FB 2.0.
