Default BF2142 v1.51

For those of you who don't follow Twitter I thought I'd let you know that I now have Niklas back on BF2142 working on completing the update.

Evenbalance is still investigating the lag and whether Punkbuster is the cause.

More information to follow as I have it.

Baza, please give us an update on the included maps. What's gonna be the final count & which game modes will they support? That's what I want to know the most.

Baza, I'm sure you've seen lots of bug list threads and wish lists, but please remember that (assuming) this is the last patch we will ever see, even a single extra fix/feature will be much appreciated.

So, if you would, pass the various bug lists along to the programmer along with this message, and maybe we'll get lucky and find a few extra goodies in our patch!

I wanted to ask about one other thing; I'm sure it's a longshot, but you never know: Is there any chance that some aspects of the game's code could be opened up so that community coders could take a wack at fixing some of the bugs, as well as things like, retooling the titans for bot play?

Oh, and.......(here I go again...just can't help it ) ..... I hope you can pass this idea along as well.

As you know, Titan play has always had 'built-in' lag, and especially for those that choose to run mobile titans. I wanted to suggest that a few things could be changed about the titans that would help to minimize the lag, and probably would not require a lot of work, as the real work has already been done.

What I mean is, certain graphical aspects could simply be switched off, or skipped, in the code, to help minimize lag, assuming that they do add to it. Here are some possibilities:

* Rippling shield effects, on both main Titan shield, console shields and core shields. Keep the shields visible, just skip over the code that makes them visibly ripple like a wave.

* Shield deflection response for main exterior shield. When firing at the shield with Titan AA guns, or any weapon for that matter, there is a visible response. It's very 'neeto', but not necessary. AA deflection response lag is a known issue. Why not simply, A) switch off the graphical shield response altogether, and/or B) Disallow hit registration from AA cannons on Titan shields.

I hope there's some options there. TIA!

if they only send the info of where the bullets fly, then the calculation of where it impacts and what riple it gives on the schield could be calculated client side, on a side note i never lag in titan mode, not even moving titans... okay i did when i had a weak system..

Same here... I also never lag in Titan mode but did when I had a weak system. Ditto about the moving titans so thanks for mentioning it. Once I beefed up my system I was very glad to be rid of the Titan movement lag in particular or even simply being on the Titan.

64 bit Windows 7 makes it impossible to play the BF series and I absolutely hate that.

Ah, I thought I remembered it being a community wide issue, regardless of specs. Maybe they fixed part of it earlier on, or maybe it always was a system spec problem.

I normally range from 40-60 fps on conquest, but on the Titan, I drop to the 10-15 range.

I hope to be able to nab a new card soon, as I'm using an IGP at the moment. Hopefully that will take care of it.

Wow, I just now re-installed the deluxe version of it on a fresh install of Win7 and so far so good. I haven't patched it yet but I'm surprised and happy to see it working! Before I had upgraded Vista64 to Win7 64 without a fresh install and neither this or BF2 would work no matter what I did. Everything else worked fine though. Many others were having similar issues but I guess it takes a fresh install of the OS apparently; at least in my particular situation.

What was your "weak" system and what is your "beefed up" system now?

Hi Bazajaytee,

Will there be bugfixes in the upcoming 2142 patch, too?

On what fixes is Niklas working on??
Where to post the wishlist of bugfixes?
Will it be the very last bugfix patch then???

Besides. The name "1.51" sounds stupid.
Why not "1.6" for a complete hole new content patch like NoS 4free?
