Default 2142 Update 1.51

Battlefield 2142 update 1.51 is still in development, however the programmer required to finish the update is busy working with the team on finalising Battlefield Bad Company 2. Once BFBC2 is complete we will get the programmers time to finish the final bug fixes on Battlefield 2142.

Things we have left to address before release are:
  • Dedicated servers are listening on all ports for VoIP instead of the one port defined in serversettings.con
  • Running more than one server on a machine causes each connection to the additional servers to slow client loading. It can take up to 1 hour before the map loads.

These are bugs introduced in 1.51 changes and not existing bugs in 1.50 but we have to fix these before release.
As well as the update we will have the programmer create a new Battlefield 2142 Deluxe with 1.51 included for release on digital distribution systems beyond EA Download Manager. This will happen after 1.51 has been completed and released though.

sorry to be negative but...

*yawn*

an update to inform us of ZERO progress since last time.

need another year? let's get this done before 2142, eh?

oh and not a word about the recent game wide lag-fest?

ps. nice to hear that the patch has created brand new bugs that need to be resolved. nice to know some DICE traditions remain.

I had previously mentioned that we were waiting on resource to complete the update but people were asking for an update. That is what this what this thread is for. There can't be much progress on the update when the programmer is assigned to other tasks.

Try looking in the lag thread for that.

We are fixing before releasing. Updating is always creating new issues as we implement changes which is why the "simple fixes" are never that simple.

We have looked at server stability as part of the patch yes.
Sentry guns tracking through walls, do you mean the Titans? If so that isn't something we can fix without totally rebuilding the Titan interiors.
Indestructible beacons, they the ones when you place it on a Titan and have friendly fire turned off or have you experienced it in another situation?
Repeating gun sounds is one of those things that happens but we can't force it to happen to find out what’s causing it.

Well the sentries firing through titan walls cause excessive FPS lag, theres too much clipping in titans I think. I wouldnt mind waiting longer for a patch if DICE had to rebuild the titans

As for the repeating gun sounds, it normally happens when you reload and change gun/change back.

Oh and that X-FI bug with crackling sound is damn annoying

baza do you guys at DICE understand that when you tell the community a patch is coming and show screenshots of the new map that nobody in their right mind expects that wait to be over a year?

for DICE, is constant server crashing not a serious enough issue that a fix should be put out before a year has passed? i just don't get why such a show stopping issue hasn't been a priority when the community has been patient and waited this long.

i know it's unfair for me to lash out at you, so i'm sorry if it seems like i'm picking on you but let me say i appreciate that at least somebody from DICE is letting us know what's up. i think however, much more could've been done when you know the community is growing very weary of waiting for their promised patch. just be up front and honest. if you said way back that the patch isn't getting finished until BC2 is done, then you would've saved everyone including you guys a lot of headaches.

a little more communication goes a looooooooooong way.

I get why you guys get annoyed at the delays in our patching and is something we are sorting out for future Battlefield PC games, unfortunately our patching system for BF2/2142 was out dated and clunky, this means even a change for one thing like the server crashes can take months to create.

We were going to get a programmer sooner than the end of BC2 (end of last year we were aiming at releasing), only this morning did I find out that we wouldn't get him any sooner than that.

The majority of server crashing is caused by hacks and have Evenbalance trying to slow them down while we create the updates. This doesn't excuse the delay but just so you know that not all crashes are caused by server side crashes.

One benefit to the delay does mean that we have been able to include two more free maps though, this takes the count to 3 new maps in 1.51.

Will the titan and X-Fi crackling sounds be fixed?

The gun sound and Titan are unlikely to get fixes. I don't have an X-Fi card here to try the crackling sound you mention but will get IT to get me one so I can see what you mean and see if we can't do something about it.

Thanks for the reply mate.

One more question though - im not sure if anyones asked it yet

In 1.51 could DICE perhaps unlock the Scar 11 bonus skin? So the people who hate it can ditch it - and the people who want it can use it?

baza, how about some of the other most wanted fixes after server crashing according to the poll i took (check my sig)?

e.g.
account spoofing
custom kit saving
EU transport right side gun

any hope for those problems?

oh and X-Fi problem doesn't happen on every setup but it happens to me. i am unable to use X-Fi mode with my X-Fi card due to this.
you may want to check this thread: Follow-up: X-Fi Crackling/Popping Noises thread - Creative Labs
and read the last post of that thread for creative's final word to the issue. while you're at it, tell the IT that the problem was somehow fixed in BF2 but still remains in 2142. if they can take a look at the latest openAL files and drivers from creative to see what it was exactly that fixed this for BF2, maybe it can be fixed for 2142.

Whats wrong with EU Transport?

But yeah, I would love to see something mentioned by DICE about the Bonus Scar 11.

dude chill out with the scar skin request. the game has many many more serious issues that need to be addressed. there are bugs that should take precedent over something like your beloved scar skin.

check the URL in my sig to see some of the issues i'm talking about.

as for the EU transport, the right side gun shoots blanks most of the time. i think you're the first person i've seen that doesn't know of this issue, tbh.

is it too much to ask for a vehicle gun that does damage?

Thanks for the new information. Too bad that we have to wait until BBC2 becomes completed. I guess though that better late than never. Still though, now that there is extra time, how about trying to include the titan map which was in the works.

As long as there is better inbuilt security and the CTD's have been fixed that'll be good. Blalalahe CTD's I get usually happen when the server I'm playing on crashes, just the other day I was play on some server and I suddenly went back to desktop, loaded the game again and the server was in the red. Most of the time I just get kicked to the server screen and the server appears empty with a ping of 2500+. It's just a bit more annoying when the game crashes out as well.

Well if the titans need rebuilding, don't bother, sounds like too much of a hassle.

so friendly fire off = no destroyable becons? bug? or is it meant to be like that? Because it depends where you place them, sometimes you can destroy them and sometimes you can't.

Well it happens rarely and doesn't really ruin the game, so don't worry.

I forgot to mention the following as well;

shield not going down on the titan (never on both, it's usually one or the other) is that fixed?

no spawn point on titan. is that fixed?

and I can't remember if this is supposed to happen but I die sometimes when I'm in pod, usually before I land, stops in the air and says YOU WERE KILLED, is that because the APC was destroyed before you land? or is that a bug, I can't recall.

oh and that modified content error, has that been fixed?

It did for me, I only get a very slight micro crackle at times but nothing game ruining. Those are the best drivers out atm, the creative ones are pants. So i'm pretty sure it's mostly to do with the drivers, but I reckon the openal files for the game are out of date too or buggy.

But the drivers cleared up 95% of the sound distortions on my system. I'd say theres a little crackling in 1 in every 15 games I play.

Wil these new maps support both Titan and Conquest play?

I was just thinking that. While never really using it myself, the BOFORS takes up a HUGE amount of space on the HUD and virtually makes the right hand quarter/ mid blind to any enemies facing right.

i do not care about the childish complaints many of the people have about this new patch. the things i only would like to see fixed is the lag issue. the indestructable beacons and sentry guns placed in plants in maps with plants. and that is pretty much all that needs to be fixed. oh one thing i noticed is on the map on cerbre landing the wall by the emp control dish at the command center control point has a glitch where sentry guns can shoot through it without actually being glitched in it. i have also noticed a part in camp gibraltar on the west side of toll station control point has the same issue maybe that can be looked into? at least you guys arent blizzard and take 10 YEARS to make a game that will be obsolete by the time it comes out
