Default X-Fi mode static/crackling/popping problem

this issue was somehow fixed in BF2, could you guys see that it gets fixed for 2142 too?

before i couldn't use x-fi mode on both games due to audio going haywire, but all of a sudden on BF2, it fixed itself. but i still can't use x-fi mode on 2142.

if not, at least give us the option to use 128 channels (ultra high) on hardware mode since that's what some of us x-fi guys are forced to use.

I only get the crackling now and again when there is a orbital strike ,,,

I have mine
-ultra high
-x-fi
-EAX

I turned the 5.1 and all the other stuff off in creative control panel,, seems to be pretty good ,,, oh and using a medusa 5.1 headset

yeah in 2142, it only happens during orbital strikes. otherwise, it doesn't go haywire. but it should honestly be fixed for orbital strikes since i play more conquest than titan mode these days.

I would check to see what IRQ your sound card is using. If it is the same as the one the GPU is using I would try to switch it. If you do try to switch just make sure to uninstall the sound card drivers after you remove the card from the slot and then reinstall the drivers after you place the card in the different slot. This has been know to help with some conflict between sound cards and GPU's.

it's not that simple. creative already came out and said its something beyond their controls. and since BF is the only game that my audio goes haywire, i am guessing it has to be fixed by dice.

it's been discussed, look in the BF2 forum for updated driver links.

like i said, it's fixed for BF2, but it's not for 2142. i'm using the latest drivers and latest openAL. i'll be reinstalling all the stuff when i install win7 next month, maybe it won't be an issue in win7. we'll see.

it's fixed for 2142 if you use the lastest unofficial drivers. i.e. the ones modded to work on all x-fi cards.

There has always been a fix for it for BF2142. In fact some people with the X-Fi never even had the issue. It all depends on how the cards react to your system. Some people get lucky and do not experience any issue while others have to work extremely hard to get the Snap-Crackle-Pop of that Rice Crispy sound card to work.

For some it is drivers, others it maybe the IRQ, then there is the sound option within the BIOS that needs to be turned off, or the Gaming Mode in the cards settings in not enable, and so on. It is just a matter of finding which fix works for you. Hopefully it is not a hardware fault where you have to get an RMA, but if the card works fine with other games then that is most likely not the case. I personally had a Fatal1ty card die twice on me, which is the main reason I stopped using them for gaming. that and they are just a pain to get working.

A lot of time Creative will blame Vista for driver issues, because of how Microsoft changed the way that OS handles the sound compared to how XP does. But by now they should have a working driver to test. The last time I had one of my three X-Fi cards installed, the card was working fine. In fact I do not remember having the Snap-Crackle-Pop issue. I do remember the game crashing when the Titan exploded because of the X-Fi driver I was using. It took me many tries to get the right driver and for it to be stable. Of coarse that also only lasted so long before I had to do everything over again.
I used the offical drivers and never used anything of the disk that came with the card. I tried the thrid party drivers and did not have good luck with them, myself like others have.

Believe me, I know your frustrations when working with that particular series of sound card. It takes a lot of patience.

i know, some setups have no problems. i had the card in my previous rig and it never had an issue with static/crackle/pop. it did blue screen crash ALOT though with IRQ less than equal error. only when playing BF though, lol.

It is random, but it is also fixable on the Client side. It is not on the game side, or at least within the games coding. It does take a lot of patients dealing with it. Believe me, there were many times that I wanted to drop kick my X-Fi cards down the street into a dumpster, like I did with the keyboard at my job.

I say just take a few minutes out of each day to test the tips that are out there until you find one that works for you.

nope, just run setup and let it install everything, you can then remove any of the applications you don't need.

These will work on x64.

All you need is PCI Latency Tool, change your x-fi's latency to 032, save it, apply it and enjoy clear sound.

Smacznego.

hmmm my sound giltches rly bad when its loading a new map.

I have the xtreme gamer pro card, i hate the drivers and the hassle that comes with it (just had to format and so far this took the longest to get it on again) though once its set up it is rly awesome.

the times i tried xfi it always had the glitching high pitch sounds while loading a map, the sound is way better (specially the comms) but that bug or whatever that's causing it is to bad to keep it turned on.
