Make sure that you download and install the latest driver for the card.

Also their could be other issues on why the game is not working. If you could explain more on what is happening and what else you have for your computer specs; we could help you better.

Perhaps the guy will need to install the game again since getting a new card?

I don't actually know that though.

Does anyone else know?

are you running a nvida 8800 if so here you go

haha just do the following i know what im doing just do the following ok

read carefully any one who has crashes (i.e:blue screes from playing a game for 30 min to 1 hr) i have finally found the answere to the crash after searching for 2 weeks
(the problem is from the heat of the GPU this is comon with EVGA cards when it crashes it will tell u nv4_disp.dll etc.) just do what is written bellow (this is also for any one with a problem even people that dont own a EVGA any one else with a 8800 can fix it with these steps

READ CARFULLY:
do exactly what ill tell u to do.This is normally for people who

AREN'T

using liqued cooling on the graphic cards

1.download driver cleaner pro (i downloaded mine from .com) (install it)

2.download the a 8 series driver from EVGA.com not nvidia.com evga has the 162.18 the nvidia website has the old version

(DONT INSTALL IT NOW)

(uninstall the current driver if u have one from the controlpanel only uninstal the displaydriver nothing else)

3.download nTUNE from the nvidia website or evga website
(well the problem with the old GPU driver from NVIDIA.com that u cant control the fan box in the ntune controlpanel)

4.restart the pc and go to safe mode by pressing F8

5.run drivercleaner pro and do the following (warning dont run in normal mode only safe mode)

A . click on the arrow and find nVidia (only nVidia) and tick the (select multipel cleaning filters) then click ADD ... wait for 6 seconds , when it finishes close it then
restart

6. in normal mode install the 8 series driver then restart

7.go to startmenu > NVIDIA COPARATIONS > nvidia controlpanel > controlpanel

8.extend the preformance TAB and click on adjust GPU settings > click on direct fan control then drag the (thing) to the end (99%)

Exactly, you do realise telling people to download OLD 8 series drivers means it might not even recognise their card?

Driver cleaner pro is now pay, use driver sweeper from guru3d.com its practically the same and its free.

Also ntune doesn't allow you to control the fan, I had an issue with this nvidia drivers and i had to install RIVATUNER instead, NOT ntune, its practically useless, it doesn't keep the settings. If you use an x64 operating system you need to make sure you install the "update" when prompted during the install. Vaguetech - Rivatuner v2.07-11 Guide is a topic which details how to sort out your fans, its valid for the latest version.

nTune always made my system unstable. I use RivaTuner as well. A lot better. Of coarse I get mine from Guru3D where the maker of it has his own section in their forums. The person that makes it also helped make the EVGA Precision tool which is good for the beginners. RivaTuner is a lot more advanced. I like the monitoring part of it the most. I do not OC my cards too much because I do not need to for any of my games. But I always use the monitoring for my temps and FPS.
Plus I do not have to worry about the fans since I do not us any on my actual cards. Liquid cooled for me.

If I OC my CPU I use the BIOS.

You do know that nVidia drivers are all the same from 6 series up to the 200 series? The only difference is the OS versions! And there is a certain order to using driver cleaner pro or driver sweeper.

Uninstall driver, restart in safe mode, run Driver cleaner/sweeper, Restart, install driver, restart, enable SLi, restart one last time.

Depending on how fast your system is it could take from 10 mins to an hour to install an updated driver the correct way!

Actually there is an .inf file (nv4_disp.inf) which tells the installer which cards to accept, I mean surely you are aware of such a file?

This is the exact thing which will stop someone trying to use older drivers and unless you are particularly experienced in modifying/replacing it and are willing to go to the lengths to replace it instead of finding drivers which natively support your card, it isn't going to work.

So clearly, its a bit more than just OS differences.

Also true about rivatuner, however it's not just for overclocking, I pretty much only use it for fan control. You have a good point about using EVGA precision, it practically IS rivatuner, just dumbed down abit.

The only comment I have against it though is unless EVGA have updated recently it can't control fans properly with newer nvidia drivers due to a change in them. Rivatuner was patched to handle such a change. If you have issues with precision then you might want to look at rivatuner instead.

I'm aware of the .INF file and how to modify it YES!

But on the other hand all you have to do is read the release notes for the driver and it will tell you what cards it's compatible for!

182.08:

Release Highlights:

This is a WHQL driver for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, and 200-series desktop GPUs.

New in Release 182.08:
· Added support for GeForce GTS 250.
· Added SLI profile support for some newly released games.
· Additional information on specific bug fixes can be found in the release documentation notes.
· Users without US English operating systems can select their language and download the International driver here.

If the person is too much of a dolt to read then they should not install the drivers then should they!

Precision 1.4 controls fans with driver 181.xx and up.

Read the thread again, the person suggested using the 162.18, which is what I was addressing. I'm fully aware newer ones are and how to mod my own, but many do not and probably wouldn't go to the hassle.

I saw the post that suggested 162.18 but I didn't pay it any mind since he didn't read the OPs question in the first place.

On Friday I will be removing my old 7950gt and replacing it with a 9800gt.

I'm simply going to remove the old gfx drivers, power down, swap the cards, power up, install the new drivers which I'll have downloaded from the location Splash-Damage recommended (GeForce Release 182), then set up the screen res and away I'll go!

If I have any problems, I'll come here and state what they are. If it goes smoothly, I'll simply come here and state that instead.

It's my understanding that various problems triggered in the past by using anti-aliasing have since been addressed by NVIDIA with a recent driver update, therefore I don't anticipate any problems.

The only problems you should get is if your new card tries to run a different resolution or refresh rate to your old card, so make a note of what they are before you swap over, and make sure you set it to the same when it is installed.

Thanks for caring (really - I'm not being sarcastic there), but to be honest I am not at all bothered if I have to reset those options in XP.

Takes just a few seconds to set up the resolution and refresh rate, so that's no biggie to me.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooo k... ...it installed without a hitch.

The game now whizzes along like a turbo-charged wasp on drugs.

I'm as happy as a pig at a sewage-treatment plant.
